    Hi Amy. Lovely flowers. I must say my orchids are now finally stable after almost a year. I lost 3 when i converted 13 of my orchids but some of them were rescue orchids. Unfortunately I found that FWC is still much easier for me than solid media. I failed of the times I tried and I struggled. So thank you for all your Fwc tips. Two of my orchids now have spikes. One of them have two! Sooo excited. So those who are new listeners to your channel, The Orchid Whisperer is really a good channel to watch. Have a blessed Sunday.

    Paula from Mexico. Hi, I bought a new Phaleonopsis today from Costco to experiment. It has two spikes of flowers, can tell it was forces to bloom, because it is wrong time of the year and also the flowers are half the size they should be. It was in bark, has a very good root system. I cut 3 tips that were mushy. I wet it first, then I took it out and cleaned it off, it had a plug I removed. I placed it is water a few times and checked and cleaned it some-more, to be sure I got all the bark off. I placed it in fertilized (MSU + sea-weed extract) water till evening . Took out the water, to let it dry out a little over night. In the morning I will put some water in it. Maybe a little. See how it is doing and maybe a little more water. I use rain water. Did I do right?????? I wasn’t sure how long to put it in fertilized water! I had a hard time fining a vase to fit it. Most were too small at top.

    What kind of water do you use? /what do you add to the water??

    This is a variation of water culture that I use successfully on 2 Phalaenopsis - I spray water into the container so it gets onto all the roots, until there is a small pool in the bottom, I guess in your setup about 1cm/½inch deep. Then I leave it until the water pool has dried out, then wait at least a couple of days before watering again. No root rot at all so far (~8

      Thanks so much for sharing this! I like this idea, and it makes a lot of sense. I might give this a try...you've got me thinking! No root rot at all...that sounds great! Happy growing! :)

    Great questions and great common sense advice, as usual! Y'all listen to Amy - she knows what she is talking about! Wish I had an OW encyclopedia when I started growing. Instead I had to get my knowledge from the school of hard knocks! 😂

    Sphagnum moss is great for small collections because you can get the amount of water just right for each orchid. I have 6 orchids (all originally repotted into bark) and 4 of them are back in moss.

    What a beautiful colour! I am absolutely interested in doing water culture too! But I don’t know where to get these glass pots. Are there online sources?

    I could not bring up the video of Sept. 13, 2017, that is 3 years ago, the oldest I could go was 2 years. Could you remake it maybe.

    I followed your video on transferring an orchid to water culture however I have a question. The orchid that I transferred seems to be a good candidate for water culture however I noticed that the leaves are now wrinkled. She is in bloom and lost one of her blooms but the rest are holding strong. Is this normal or should I transfer her back into moss. She's been in water culture for a few weeks now and has kept most of her roots.

    Hi Amy, thank you for your informative videos on water culture. I had a newly acquired Vanda that was struggling in my environment. She lost all of her thin greenhouse roots and now is pushing out some very thick roots after I put her in semi-water culture. I was wondering if you have any experience growing summer blooming phals (sequential bloomers) in water culture.

      @OrchidWhisperer  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Connie and thanks so much for watching! I'm so glad to hear your new Vanda is doing well in SWC. My Vandas love water culture! I don't have any sequential blooming phals...but if I did, I would try just one newly purchased one to see how it does in water culture. Have a great day and happy growing :) Amy

    Hi Amy, I have a phal orchid in bark media with big leaves but almost no roots only one and it's stem and crown are healthy, can I convert it to water culture to get some good roots.

      Hi! I don't recommend placing a rootless phal orchid in water culture that has no roots. I did a video about this topic that will help you...here's the link: th-cam.com/video/gDQAFrRxs8M/w-d-xo.html

    Hey. Love your videos. Is it absolutely necessary to dry out two days a week? Some folks say it’s not necessary.

      Hi! I've grown them both ways, and mine do better with the dry out days. You can try both to see which way your orchids grow best. Happy growing!

    Hi Amy I think that I've told you how I keep most of my orchids that are outside I keep them in the semi water culture cuz I put the rocks and then there's holes and then there's Moss and then there's more rocks and I've had them like that now for a good 6 months and now we're going through our rainy season and my mosses wet most of the time is that okay? Or will that rot my roots👉👵👈

    • @OrchidWhisperer
      @OrchidWhisperer  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Libby! I hope your orchids do well for you...I would just keep an eye on them. If they get too wet, you might want to put a cover over them or move them somewhere so they don't get so much rain. Have a great day and happy growing! :) Amy
