At the swing of midnight, on the day you were born, Three lightning bolts came together. The first, sinuous and long, said, “I shall make her graceful.” The second, jagged and strong, said, “I shall give her a mind That cuts into darkness like diamond.” The third, bright as a sun, said, “I shall give her radiance That warms and brightens all those around her.” As the three lightning bolts descended on the newborn, Lightning-fast, A fourth came along, so spectral and pale as to go unseen, And whispered: “I shall make her forget.” And so she walked the earth, oblivious to her gifts, Save when staring into a newborn’s endless eyes Or hearing a strain of music so pregnant with yearning As to have the weight of truth, Or when a dusty pilgrim would arrive from far away And cry, “Ave!,” with wild eyes that could see The goddess for the human that she was.
Fitsum Abera flirting his way to a date with an independent woman... Ali, honey, why not marry a Muslim hijabi? Because marrying a Christian would bring to the world Muslim children and that's what you're intentions are, right? I hope Trump makes America Christian again.
You guys give me so much courage to move forward.....finding strength in your words......with hopes to educate our children, fight poverty at it's core, help the abused, neglected, and oppressed....give healing to those in need, seek justice for the wrongly accused, and to let freedom reign. I love you ❤️ and thank you 🌏✌🏽 LOVE THE POEM!!!! I love myself....I love myself Im sorry to disappoint you but I still don't know what to do 🤔
I love this speech! I don't see it's about feminism. It talks about fulfilling your self, being happy, feeling empowered. I think that's a really powerful idea. Specially this part when he said "close your eyes and imagine you're a galaxy"
I genuinely liked this guy. He was so original not the usual formal type TED speaker. His speech might not have a linear progression but he was worth listening to,
I think he's a better writer than a speaker. His content is terrific, however I had trouble connecting with him due to what I read as perhaps a semi-sarcastic or humorous tone in his voice.
Tune in next week when Ali's friends say...." Hey Ali... are you O.K.? .....Where's Mary? ......She's our with your friend Tony? Don't worry, I'm sure they just forget that you were waiting for them.":
"you have compassion built in i.e. not as much testosterone." Ooooh, so we're allowed to generalize now are we? Don't mention the male tendency to like X kind of woman: it's just socially constructed.
Overly confident cocky middle eastern men... threatened by western women due to their independence, that's why you see him desperately trying to seem loud and patronizing to show dominance. However, back in their countries they are quiet and shy and go to "mommy" to fix everything.. *shakes my head*
Fake wedding rings are a beautiful thing. It's like having one of those lord of the rings, rings that make you invisible. Pretty cool gadget. Problem solved. Instantly empowered.
melovescoffee lol. not for me. I have a fake one and I have now named it the "lucky ring". whenever I wore it men flocked to me like crazy. I even loaned it to girlfriends and they all ended up getting married to guys they met while wearing the ring. it's crazy!
The message is worth listening beyond his pandering. I disagree that the relationship he describes is one to be sought in marriage for the purpose of procreation. His fallacy is the attempt to reaffirm the patriarchal roles of women. It would be a more enlightened approach to consider that what he describes is actually the potential of every human being. Fitsum Abera is about our human potential constrained by social norms.
inaccessible creatures???????????? what===? some how the start of this doesn't seem right..... creature is the same way advertisements label women...... don't talk like that
I don't understand all the negative comments. I loved this talk. He makes a lot of sense to the strong, feminine woman.
prefer to be single than with a man and men are pissed!!!
At the swing of midnight, on the day you were born,

The second, jagged and strong, said, “I shall give her a mind
That cuts into darkness like diamond.”
The third, bright as a sun, said, “I shall give her radiance
That warms and brightens all those around her.”
As the three lightning bolts descended on the newborn,
Lightning-fast,
A fourth came along, so spectral and pale as to go unseen,
And whispered: “I shall make her forget.”
And so she walked the earth, oblivious to her gifts,
Save when staring into a newborn’s endless eyes
Or hearing a strain of music so pregnant with yearning
As to have the weight of truth,
Or when a dusty pilgrim would arrive from far away
And cry, “Ave!,” with wild eyes that could see
The goddess for the human that she was.

Angel Of Darkness, maybe a Muslim woman would be _too_ powerful for him ;-p
What does even mean?
That's the first time I've heard that. My eyes and heart burst at the mention of an infant's gaze. Thank you for sharing.
How beautiful, thank you so much

The bit about the fourth bolt and the message encompassed was beautiful
I genuinely liked this guy. He was so original not the usual formal type TED speaker. His speech might not have a linear progression but he was worth listening to,
He should be having this very conversation with men. But I appreciate the solidarity and understanding
I love that guy, great speech!
I think he's a better writer than a speaker. His content is terrific, however I had trouble connecting with him due to what I read as perhaps a semi-sarcastic or humorous tone in his voice.
Some nice nuggets but really think his audio tapes and books are fantastic.
I didn't get anything from this one. Just a bunch of rambling for about 15 minutes, then makes one point, and reads the poem.

I think this dude is in outer space.

Lighten up Edith

Meg_ The Basic DID wow racist and stereotype much ?
Just call this "The Mangina Monologue."
I love how little manginia's really know about women.
There's a real lack of substance here.

Si quelqu'un a cette vidéo traduite en français... Je sais je jette une bouteille d'eau à la mer. Mais bon. Sait on jamais.
Yeah, none sense whatsoever…
This speaker seems grandiose & annoying, as though he must have endless attention.
The message is worth listening beyond his pandering. I disagree that the relationship he describes is one to be sought in marriage for the purpose of procreation. Seven year olds don't have power and it's a damn good thing.stupid story...

He is still single and incapable to find a woman.
It looks like he slept in his clothes. Like, he'd been out late, passed out fully dressed and showed up late to his talk.
