Theres no excuse for not having true online multiplayer. 3D World did that just fine. Wtf.
Debatable. And after how bad Super Mario Maker 2's online multiplayer was, I have little faith this would be better. Nintendo really needs to update their online network.
@@TortillatheHun_ bottomline is they absolutely CAN make a functional online experience. Doing it properly in a 3D game is arguably harder and yet they managed. So I find not trying at all here to be worthy of criticism.
I started a playthrough by myself but quarter way through my sibling wanted to play. And just like you said, I wanted to play the game with a co op buddy. I was laughing and having fun experiencing the wonder effects and having someone see them with me. I cannot wait to play the rest of the game with them.

I wasn’t gonna pick this one up, because I don’t usually love 2D Mario games, but the co-op features have sold me on it. Seems like it will be a fun adventure! Thanks for the review!
The camera turns the game from a 10/10 to a 6/10, maybe even a 5/10. It gives one person the camera and everybody else has to deal with it. If you have a fast camera-bearer, then you have to run to try and keep up, turning every level into an auto scroller. If you have a slow camera-bearer, then you feel shackled, unable to advance or look for secrets until the camera-bearer catches up. If you are the camera-bearer, then you have the impossible task of balancing the wants and needs of the fast players and the slow players, all while actually playing Mario. My family and I loved and completed Mario Wii and Wiiu deluxe, but we only played 2 sessions of wonder because the camera in an unbearable problem that pervades literally the entire game.

@@-Goobster. I was the second slowest in our group. I was often dragged by the left screen and couldn't try to check for any secret without forcing everyone else to stop while explain what I'm trying to do, and then attempt it while camera bearer has to try and keep the camera in a good spot. also, i would drag those numbers down lower consider nobody in my group has asked to play it again.
3D World had the best online and local co op

can’t believe that a game ive waitet so long for and that in itself totally matched my expectations just leaves me an my brother frustrated after a few levels of playing it
I think multiplayer sucks. Crown system makes it so only one player is important. No interactivity between players make you feel like a ghost. The camera only following the crown player leads to a lot of off screen moments for everyone else.

@joejackson9986 There's literally no other way to play. The system they implemented is like Mario Galaxy/Odyssey where there is one main player and then a secondary/support player(s). The game is clearly designed for single player then they tacked on co-op.

I tried playing this with my girlfriend and it was one of the most frustrating coop experiences I have ever had. I’m considering getting 3D world just to play with her, would you say in 3D world the coop is better without the camera crown stuff

I watched the video just to get more footage of online coop. I don't really have any interest in pursuing it otherwise.
EDIT: it's also come to my attention that you need NSO sub for online MP, so especially nm to that!
I hate the local co-op camera system, the fact it changes everytime you die is jarring
My niece and nephew are getting Nintendo switches for Christmas. Do they each need a physical copy of the game, for each Switch, to play multiplayer together?
It depends, I would suggest just playing it together on one console! But if they want to play “online” they’d have to buy two copies. Local is the better options for kids though so again, I’d stick to one.
@@TheCoOpBros - ok, but when you say “play together on one console”, does that mean one handheld is running the game, while the other handheld is connected to that one. I guess the best way to phrase it is, can they both play together if there’s only one physical copy of the game ?

I really wish you guys had commented on the camera. I’ve read it’s not great and it feels limiting, is that true?
I guess I didn’t comment on it because, at this point, it’s a known quantity. I think most of my cons, like 4 players being overwhelming or speed focused levels being rough, are in reference to the camera. But there’s not a whole lot you can do to fix that in a 2D platformer.
I actually bought the game for co-op, but the camera is really annoying. The camera follows 1 player and therefore the fellow players are limited in their moveset.
@@JeroenIGADso it must be horrible for 4 players. I was looking for this game for some 4 player chaos with my family but I don't want 3 players to just twiddle their thumbs off screen constantly
@@JeroenIGAD I kind of like how there's a "leader" this time around. You can just follow that player, rather than try to work out who should we follow.
