I wanted to come back and do a quick update. As far as how the shade operates I love it and the tension has held up fine but just after about a week one end started to peel back off of the frame. I pressed it back and it held for a few days until it did it again. So then I got a piece of 3M double sided mounting tape and that helped a lot. However now the other end started sagging so I figure it's just a matter of time until the whole strip gives way. A roll of the 3M tape is fairly expensive and it would take a whole roll to re-line the top mounting area so I took completely off (which bent the shade up because the middle part was still firmly adhered) and ran a bead of super glue on it so hopefully now it won't be coming undone anymore. I also flipped it so now I have it installed the correct way. The only issue is the few spots where I really had to pull to get the shade off bent the shade itself and in those few spots now light comes through more brightly probably because where it bent cracked the foil-like film that blocks the light. And unlike their troubleshooting I know my window sill was cleaned and not recently painted. I'm pretty disappointed that the adhesive just isn't up to spec for an object this large and heavy and to save the trouble of having to tear it back off when it starts to fall off on its own I would highly recommend buying your own 3M mounting tape and taping it onto the original tape because I've always had good luck with their tape. Since the tape isn't very sticky possibly put some super glue on the window shades tape and then add the 3M on top of it. That way both are bonded together and you won't have to directly glue the shade to your window frame like I did. However this is a lot of work to do to essentially work around a manufacturing problem so you may be better off passing on this product.

A new razor blade in a box cutter is the way to go cutting through, stroke after stroke of cuts will give a nice edge

I used a drywall sanding block to make it smooth on the end. I held it tight and smoothed the plastic and the paper.

What do the hash marks between numbers represent?

Think you would have better luck by cutting with a LONGER serrated knife, and on a more STABLE surface, like a workbench etc. But I agree, for a more long lasting install, the type of cellular shade that screws on would be more durable shade.

Do you think the material would work for a shower window? It would be subject to steam but no water directly.

I don’t think it would be a good idea but you can always try it. Home Depot returned my money when my replacement shades didn’t last but 17 minutes

You could also try that I did that someone else posted about putting stick pins in to hold the adhesive. Just depends whether or not the stick pins will go into your drywall

Redi Shade obviously you are a bot or just dense as these things stayed up no time. Mine came down 2 times, both after one day of installing. Fix your product.

@@TARDIB I know what a lame answer they didn’t even read the message. I bought my first ones in 2004 and they lasted 17 years. Then I replace them and they fell down within 17 minutes. So now I’m bought another pair and I lightly sanded my windowsill because it is a little bit textured cleaned it, and I’m going to be doing it tonight. Wish me luck. They have obviously changed the glue formation from 2004

BS “help” function. No one to answer phone and the FAQs are useless. Don’t buy this POS product

Really these shades are poorly designed and honestly I will not buy them even if they were 99c item at Dollar Store. Made out of light paper and the weighted pull up or pull down bares made out styrofoam. In my opinion get real shades unless you want to change your shades every month and good luck try to cut the hard plastic and the light paper shade with the same knife. I can’t believe the company has a patent for this so called invention.

I just ordered them yesterday, because I've recently moved and won't have time in the foreseeable future to go shopping for "real" blinds. I'm hoping they'll suffice just fine as a temporary solution.
