You're fabulous at explaining and demonstrating, RustiKate! When I first started tatting, I read or saw instruction that basically stated it doesn't really matter which is the front. Needless to say that really messed me up. And your using a large-thread piece for demonstration was imaginative and so helpful. Thank you so much!
I have learned a lot by watching your excellent videos! You are a super teacher! I am trying to find patterns (without any luck), to needle tat small shawls, over-skirts, etc. for my needle felted dolls. They are about 6-8" tall. I would really love to be able to dress them up with some beads and tatted vests, scarves, etc. but cannot find any patterns. If you know of any, or can help in any way, I know the needle felted doll makers would LOVE to be able to decorate our dolls with some pretty tatted things.
Thanks for the extra large yarn example! SO much easier to see. Now I am wondering if I should make a piece with that yarn just for practice, so I can see it more clearly... 🤔
Marcia Silvia Johnson Amazon and other online needlework suppliers sell them if there isn’t a shop near you. Or you can use a doll maker’s needle (doll needle). Basically, you just need a needle long enough to hold comfortably and which keeps your working stitches (including making picot) on with ease.
Thank you! What I seem to be struggling with now is keeping my tail thread on the correct side of the work so when I pull through I don't end up twisting everything into a knot. Any advice?
I always take a quick look at where the tail is before sliding work off of needle and then adjust. If it starts to tangle, I slow down and adjust again. Hope that helps.
Hi, you can get them online on my etsy shop at rustikate on etsy, or also by searching tatting needle on amazon. I don't know how much shipping would be to Indonesia, though. Let me know if it is too expensive to ship and I will see if we can figure out other options for you.
Another question: I have some patterns graphic but no show if has to reverse the work or not after a ring or chain. How do I know if is supposed to turn the work to continue or not reverse the work?🤗

Can you send me a link for what the dolls you make look like, for scale? This is a fun idea. :)

Fabulous idea!
Thank you!
Now I understand why I get lost some times when I lay my work down. Mystery solved. Perfect explanation.
Glad it was helpful. Happy tatting!
Clearly i should have checked out more of your videos. I surely did not know this.
It's one of those odd things that know one seems to ever tell you. It really helped me and my tatting once I realized the difference.
Thank you. Now I see it! Yay!
Thank you to teaching us. One question Where do you get that big needle to tatting? I need one thank you 🤗
