Renee was just great in Xena. She was the perfect choice to play Gabrielle. I am forever grateful she was our battling bard. Another great role for her was in the movie "Beyond the Farthest Star."
As much so to let me remember the show that I watched as a kid when it came out. I don't remember all of the show but that Lucy lawless is xena I can picture that as I seen it then
i love this. i love how she is this multidimentional talented woman and how she and her co star from xena still have such a beautiful bond. she's doing her best to live her best life and that's very impresive to me
Renee is just awesome. She isn't just talented, her heart is so big . She has the most beautiful soul a person could have. I'm a proud and honored to say I'm a ROC fan and has been since the first day I saw her. she was a role model I want to grow up to be like.
Because of the show, my first pair of cats were named Xena (a tuxedo) and Gabrielle (a calico). They were litter mates I adopted from SPCA. I miss them.
Me three :-). I think XWP fan base was (and stil is) equally divided among those who had crush on Xena and those who had crush on Gabrielle :-). What´s not to love right :-)?
thank you Xena to have made my life better, all of u are still iconics for quite everyone watched the show ❤️ (Hey its Xena playing in Spartacus, Hey its Xena playing Ash and the evil dead, Hey its Xena randomly somewhere, Hey thank u Xena ✌️🤘❤️)
Always thought toward the end that it was obvious that Gabrielle and Xena were a thing the theme obviously together, but I think that final scene kind of clinch is the deal.
I never had a problem with Xena and Gabrielle possibly having a lesbian relationship, but I always thought they were just very close friends. Women generally are more physically demonstrative with their friends than men. Just because they embrace or kiss doesn't necessarily mean they have sexual desires for one another.
Same! Watching their relationship as an adolescent actually taught me the power of friendship - which taught me that strong friendships are just as valuable as romances. So now I have a circle of very close friends (who I’ve been told I have “lesbian vibes” with lol) - I wouldn’t trade them for the world. I owe this show’s display of friendship for teaching me that. I’d rather imagine them as powerful friends than a couple that’s regularly cheating on each other, but ultimately it’s a show that everyone can interpret as they wish.
Great update on an actor of great appeal. Hey, I've always wondered that since Renee O'Connor and Renee Zellweger are around the same age and both grew up in Katy, Texas, if they knew each other back in the day?
Not gonna lie, soon as I laid on eyes on Renee in Hercules and the lost kingdom (2nd of the 5 original movies before the Series started) I was smitten. Total celebrity crush after that. I later saw Her performance in the Darkman II movie. She's exactly 1 month older than me which at the time I thought was just cool lol.
It's nice to learn what else she's been up to. I have seen her in a few things here and there over the years but this is far more than what I've known. Color me clueless about Xena and Gabrielle. I never once thought they had a romantic relationship. Kind of figured the relationship was similar to David and Jonathan. Very close but not romantic.
I still like watching that show. The only issue I had was the last couple of seasons. Once they started travelling all over and diving into other religions and cultures, it lost the mythology aspect of the show and that's when I lost interest. But this is just my opinion. They did make a great team and I laughed so much. They had perfect timing on the comedy.
Xena had the best character development compared to Hercules. Even though Hercules was half human, Xena's story was more relatable to humans. She didn't start out the good guy. She had to overcome her warmongering past and that wasn't easy, because she had done terrible things in her past. That's why Gabby's role was important for her character development. I loved how they were strong women, but they were both flawed in their own way. Despite how corny Xena Warrior Princess had gotten, there was still a realness between the relationships of each character. They let the relationship between Xena and Gabby, go to a dark place, only to overcome it and strengthen their bond even further. They did the same thing with Hercules. But I often related more to Eoles, then I did Hercules, and I don't believe Hercules really changed much. Hercules still came across as an arrogant asshole who still had that stick up his butt. What they should have done with Hercules is the opposite of Xena. He should start from a high point and go into a very dark low point. While the outside sees him as the hero. Eoles sees the true side of Hercules. He's suffering from PTSD. He's going to have high moments and he is going to have low moments. When he is at his lowest point, he's depressed, he's starting fights, snapping at people and probably turning to some vice like drinking. Then Eoles comes along and helps him come out of it. This will obviously have an impact on their relationship. To the point that his only friend almost gives up on him. Eventually, Hercules would have to come to terms with things. Most importantly, accepting responsibility for the way he has been treating people. I mean, they kind of did this. But they made Hercules seem like he could do no wrong. He was always preaching to others and trying to be this example. I didn't believe it though, because of the way he carried himself. That's my opinion based on my impression of the character.
Never got that impression of Hercules at all watching the series. He often was self-deprecating and had a sense of humour about himself. And he also made mistakes and criticised himself often for them. I never found him an arrogant character. In fact the character's depth is often overlooked today. I loved both shows.
The relationship between Gabrielle and Xena does not equate to "sisterhood." Way to totally remove all of the gay subtext in that show in your summary. They literally kissed on screen. 😂
I enjoyed watching the show always knew there was more to the relationship between xena and Gabrielle just wish back then could have done more insted of just hinting at the relationship between them coz the LGBTQ community deserved more back then and now adays
@@jasonmistretta4295 I think Callisto was less attractive than the other two. She was kind of skinny hard to believe she could abduct Gabrielle and be much of a threat to Xena.
Though Queen Varia was and is my favorite Amazon (I still think Varia should have been the DCEU Wonder Woman), I liked Princess Gabrielle! When she first ascended to the throne, she stood firm and didn’t just hand her cast to the undeserving. That took strength I didn’t at the time believe Gabrielle had. She really grew into her Queenhood.
Sorry not sorry, but once you said she got divorced, and got knocked up by another guy who made the mistake of marrying her, I lost interest. Typical elitist Hollywood drama crap. Hard pass.
I watched "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys" and the spin-off series "Xena: Warrior Princess" back in the '90s. Hercules would battles monsters and gods as well as evil tyrants, Xena and Gabrielle's friendship as well as the people they encountered during their travels. They battled villains and demons, rescued people caught in unjust situations (like in "The Execution"), and even found themselves in humorous/dangerous situations ("For Whom the Bell Tolls," where Joxer the Mighty uses his newfound bravery to save an entire village. He also kisses Gabrielle, who starts to swoon only to slap herself silly in the face as if to say, "WTF just happened here!?!?!"). Another episode I remembered is a Parallel Reality situation, in which the Roman Empire is expanding its power and sentences Xena to be crucified. Gabrielle, a Roman poet who is well renowned, decides to take matters into her own hands. The Fates' powers were bound and reality was radically skewed, so Gabrielle decided to throw a burning torch into this alternate reality, despite the protests of the Fates ("Reality itself might cease to exist!"). The reality Xena and Gabrielle knew is restored, and together they go on their way. Gabrielle: "Fame. Who needs it."
What was your favorite performance by Renee O'Connor?
Xena of course! Those two could act and boy did they have great chemistry! I still miss them.
La Gabrielle la hermosaa 🌹
When renee was in my life is murder
Pretending that Xena and Gabrielle weren't lovers.

She made money and invested well.
I respect Renee O'Connor for going the route of lesser fame but greater authentic expression.

Lucy and Renee--ugh--I just LOVE these two women!!! They were the icons of my adolescence in the late 90s, :)
This show and Hercules rocked. You never knew what was gonna happen.... and so full of beautiful women!
She was a great actress on Xena, too bad she hasn't done more of it like LL has.
She has, just outside of the mainstream. And she's still delivering great work at The House Of Bards Theatre Company directing some wonderful shows.
I loved and still love Hercules and Xena the Warrior Princess!!
I still hear the war cry.
So glad Xena got her own series.
Xena Warrior Princess best show from my childhood ❤💖
Xena one of the best shows I grow up watching
I LOVE LOVE the show xena warrior princess still today 💗 💕 💖 .
She was great on Xena. I always had a huge crush on her. Probably always will.
Good to see you girls again I miss Xena XOXO to you both!!!
Got to meet Renee in Birmingham at a convention. Fanfusion. She is awesome as is her mom. She was so real and kind.
They both are truly wonderful people.
Xena Fan forever ! That show was my childhood
Nice to see the characters and people we watched not hate each other .
Was such a great show
I started watching Xena because of Renee, beautiful woman
We need a Xena continuation where Xena becomes a goddess, and Gabrielle is her wandering disciple.
I used to watch Xena because I had a crush on her sidekick, Gabby!
I appreciate this video for showing us that Renee had a career after Xena. I also make art. Nice to see her work as an artist.
I was madly in love with her when I was young.
😅
I had a ridiculous crush on Gabrielle. And yes, Xena had one of the best opening credit scenes ever.
Me too. 😂😂😅

I loved that show more than I can say!
Such a talent actress. Gabrielle is so special to me.
Not going to lie. She was fantasy of mine when I was young and now that's she and I are older. She's still a fantasy of mine. She aged well.
She was super hot as Gabriel on Xena; especially with the short hair and golden robes from India.

Wow! I like her paintings. She's very talented.
I enjoyed watching the show very much back in the day Xena and Gabrielle I even got attached to Callisto, I was heartbroken when Aries died.
Spoilers!
I preferred Discord over Callisto
I love this! Thank you for this video!
Awesome interview
I miss my grandma and watching Hercules and Xena every Thursday and Friday back in the good ole 90s😭💔
I would imagine she would as Xena was in the 90s and its now 2022

I thought that show was horrible but I have to admit I watched it because Gabrielle was so hot!
I love the new haircolors! 👱🏻♀️👩🦰
I met both of them lovely ladies 🥰
i remember the lesbian scene with xena and gabrielle hahahaha

My 2 dogs are Xena and Gabby 😍😍

Does this mean Hercules is gay ?
Who cares. He's a peanut 🥜🥜🥜
Hercules had more than wife in both mythology and on the show. Hera had his wife killed.
It was a joke! Both of the girls had husbands at one time or another!
