Hey there Alan, watched the Alone series and thought your mentel approach was outstanding. Your breaking into a "TV cooking Chef " or an "opera singer" despite clear difficulty brought great laughter to us. Well done from down in New Zealand. Inspirational!
Would love some tips on finding/making your own whetstone(s) like you did on the show. Last season there was at least one individual that took a Sharpening Stone as one of their 10 items.
+Alan Kay Thank you for responding! I thought the scenes with you talking to the stones were hilarious. Not a single person this season brought a sharpening stone and only one brought a bow and arrow. The editors rarely show shots of deer (focus is usually on predators), but were there enough to hunt (or were you even allowed to hunt them)? Can you comment on the differences between a regular sleeping bag with no bivi bag, with a bivi bag, and a flannel/canvas bag out in that wet environment?
I knew ALan was going to Win on Day one. He had the same attitude I would had went in with. Survival is easy It's becoming one with your surroundings that is the trick. It's too bad I'm all messed up and disabled. I feel I would had given good old AL a run for the money a few years ago. GREAT JOB ALAN.
Bears are afraid of Kung Fu ! Good video Dalton and keep this thread active and updated with new material and your subscriber list will grow. Your neighbors Richard & Joy ....
what I meant is to use selfmade stone knives (flint obsidian or else) for toolmaking. this would be primitive toolmaking otherwise it is making primitive tools :)
lol that simple technique using a bamboo is an old technique, i used that when im hunting fish in the river... we call it spear fishing using a bamboo stick.
Alan has a perfect radio voice- I could listen all day to tips, advice, stories and some poetry.

sorry but for me this is not "primitive" tool making if someone uses a knife, but those tools are really awesome!
