All the international press was present and even the other two bishops from America who were given the cardinal consecration, generously said "He was the star". He ended the speech at Domplatz with a message from Eugenio Pacelli to the German people which should be honoured by the grace of the title Cardinal for Galen, too. You can hear a thousandfold relief from the people at these words. The collective guilt that was thrown on the German people could not be just, while it is adverse to civil law. Galen had held this position after the war as brave as his support for the weak and handicapped.
