Webcaster Gun Vs Webcaster Gun II Vs DIY Rubber Cement Spiderweb Gun

  • Its that time of year again. Today we're comparing 3 different ways to get realistic looking webs for Halloween. The original Webcaster Gun spiderweb gun, which uses hot glue and a compressor, the Webcaster Gun II which uses hot glue and a shop vac, and a DIY Web Gun using any drill, hvac fan, small tupperware and rubber cement.
    Cost wise, we got our webcasters off of amazon. The original Webcaster Gun costs about $44 with a pound of glue sticks (about 49 sticks). The Webcaster Gun II is about $34 with a pound of glue sticks.
    The original webcaster needs a decent compressor, so if you don't already have something that puts out 4 cfm at 90 psi, it may not be worth it. The Webcaster Gun II just needs a decent shop vac, although the more powerful it is, the better.
    The DIY Web Gun can use any drill. The hvac fan blade we got online at Grainger for about $6 plus shipping. The tupperware cost about $2, and the bolts and washers cost about $2. I will link the original video below to where we got the idea from. Rubber cement seems to be cheapest from Joanns using either Joanns or Micheals coupons.

    Nice comparison. The only advantage see in the webmaster gun is when I’m using it indoors. Inside the house and on some very controlled situations where slinging contacts cement is not a great idea. Thanks for the comparison!

      Thanks, yes that is basically what we found as well. It's also nice to be able to vary the effect with the variable speed of the drill. With the Webcaster, its all or nothing, and complete based on the compressors settings.

    With the rubber cement webs, you can get rid of the stickiness and make it show up better by blowing powder on it. Talc, Fullers earth, corn starch.

      Thanks for the tip. Now I'm kind of torn, as the stickiness has been great (had a kids mom touch it on our fence around the yard and scream because she thought it was real web). But, it is on the lighter side and harder to see.

    I made the DIY web fan last year. The webs look absolutely real! I’m not using it this year though bcz the cleanup was tedious. It’s perfect for outdoors, but for inside I’m going to order a Webcaster. Thanks for the video! I couldn’t figure out the difference between 1 & 2. I’d have been mad if I bought the Webcaster 2! 😮‍💨

      Awesome. Yeah, I'd hate to imagine clean up indoors, plus there is always a risk of staining some surfaces with the rubber cement.
      I'm glad that comparison helped. Its not even a close comparison, the 1 is a night and day improvement over the 2.

    I have a Webcaster 2 that I paired with a Data Vac Electric Duster, it is super compact and portable. It is great for small indoor areas like an apartment, it is a little globby, but it works great for an amateur like myself. I would recommend getting a longer hose if possible because it is a bit cumbersome to use.

    This is exactly the comparison I was looking for, nice video!. Do you have a video showing how you created the DIY gun?

      Hey Brandon, thanks for the comment. I'm actually editing that together right now before work. It will go live at 3PM PT today.

    Great comparison just remember the rubber cement is highly flammable

      Great point. I'll go back and add in the description not to do this next to flames.

    Thx man I was wondering which way worked better. I made my DIY gun a while ago but haven't used it yet. You drilled 2 holes in the tupper ware not 1? And I'm guessing they're on opposite sides? Thx!

    • @Zero2Random
      @Zero2Random  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, yes I drilled two holes on the opposite side from each other, in the corners of the tupperware (mine was the square 4oz rubbermaid). The drill bit size I used was 1/32". Closest metric size for anyone watching is 1mm. I figured this would give more of a chance for all of the fluid to run out of the container. Might be something to experiment with sometime, more holes vs less, and the size of hole.

      @@Zero2Random Yeah I have the same size tupperware. Have seen people use 1 and 2 holes and thought 2 might be better. Appreciate your input thx!!

    Is it a pain to clean up the rubber cement webs? Could I use this inside or will it damage things?

    • @Zero2Random
      @Zero2Random  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rubber cement is relatively easy to clean off hard surfaces, but much harder to get off of soft surfaces like cloth or carpet. If I needed to use something indoors near soft items, I would probably use the Webcaster, as it should be a little easier to remove from those soft items.

    The hot glue web casters never seem to have a very long life span.

    • @Zero2Random
      @Zero2Random  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We didn't use ours long enough to find out, but makes sense. The nice thing about the rubber cement gun is its easily cleaned and maintained.

    What’s up with the horrible music in the background?

    • @Zero2Random
      @Zero2Random  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's royalty free. There is a lot more (and better) royalty free music available now than there was when we recorded this, and we were trying not to use the same song on every video.

    Hi, I'd like to use a brief clip from this video in one of my own upcoming videos. I would like to use about 10-20 seconds of footage from around 2:55 - 3:50 in this video, and will provide on screen credit and a link to either your channel or this video if you prefer in the description. Would you mind giving me permission to do so? You can either reply to me here or reach out through the contact info on my own page. Thank you!

      @@Zero2Random I'm so sorry to hear about that... I was actually about to say I came here from Nighthawkinlight's video.
      The rubber cement one seems to mimic webbing a bit more as it's weaker and sticky much like a real one.
      May I ask how environmentally friendly the products are to use?
      Again, I'm sorry for your loss. I hope you're doing alright ❤
