God Sees You - A Prayer on Mother's Day

For those in the trenches with babies, toddlers and preschoolers - changing nappies, sleep deprived, sneaking chocolate in the closet, and facing endless piles of dirty laundry (or baskets of clean laundry that just can’t get folded). God sees you. May God join you in celebrating small victories and give you his strength for the long days and short years ahead.

For those foster and adoptive parents who have opened their arms and created a home of love and belonging for children who had none. God sees you. May God forge in your family an unbreakable bond and fill your heart and home to overflowing with His life changing love.

For those seeing the years fly by too fast while they seek to manage family schedules, settle sibling squabbles, and still tackle that laundry, while creating a home of love and belonging. God sees you. May God give you wisdom, and show you ways to preserve the precious moments, past, present and future.

For those preparing to send their babies out into the world, wondering if they have prepared them well enough, wondering what you’ll do with a home that feels a little emptier, God sees you. God sees them too, looking ahead to a brilliant future they will write for themselves. May God give you courage, guidance and peace.

For those who long to be mothers, God sees you. We pray for a satisfied soul whose desires are met, whether in expected or unimagined ways. May God give you his peace and endurance, and understanding companions to lift you up as you grow weary in anticipation. (Gaye Cruickshank)

For those who wait beside machines this Mother’s Day - machines that measure the life in your little one - not knowing what the future holds as you pray for a miracle. God sees you. We pray for that miracle too. May God give you and your little one his strength to meet the challenges that lie ahead.

For mothers who have lost children, God sees you. May your motherhood be honoured even when it is not seen, and may the celebration of mothering children that are still alive not disregard the loss of those who are not. May God give you his comfort and forever preserve the beauty of your memories.

It takes a village to raise a child. For all of us on Mother’s Day, may we treasure all those women who mother us - biological, foster, adoptive, spiritual - and may we be grateful for the blessings they bring, wherever they are found.
