Lots of symbolism in the story of Ammon and the scattered sheep. Ammon is a type of Christ and we are the servants gathering lost Israel. I especially love the symbolism of the power of Christ incapacitating "the arm of the flesh." God's power is greater than anything man can do! I was never one of those kids that loved this story but I love it now!

But then disappear. Others coming back then a death, then stepping back again... We really reach out, but an elderly parent who smoked 🚬 Cancer just can happen, if anger happens for a while We continue to pray for returning 🙏 14:23

Even though some of us converts fell by the wayside, for awhile, like maybe 10 years or so, some of us, like me, returned stronger, I believe, than what I would have been had I stayed. I felt guilty about that for awhile, but once I received my Patriarchal Blessing and it said: "the Lord knew when it was time you would be here", I knew we have our paths for a reason, His reason. It's all good. 🤗

Jared, I am not sure if you have realized, but Blaise had a faith crisis of his own. He lost his faith and even called the Catholic church a cult, only later to come back to write those beautiful words! WOW. We are not that different now then they were then. Having started my mission in Rouen where her was born, his note struck my heart profoundly.
Soooo Christians, we are Evangelists afterall - we know Jesus Christ and have received the Spirit of God. We tend to think of conversion as a religious undertaking and not a commitment to the Savior and His teachings. This is a great lesson of how the Spirit and conversion can take MANY FORMS to many different people in many different cultures throughout time.
Brother Halverson as I was reading this morning in Alma 34, I felt as though I understood that Christ’s Atonement was an “ordinance” not unlike the ordinances we do in the Temple vicariously for those that have graduated from this life. Please give me your thoughts. I’ve prayed to know and you came into my mind so I’m asking you. Thank you
Thank you Brother Halverson! I think these chapters are another beautiful example of the difference between "the curse" and "a mark"... We watch that gap between God and these particular Lamanites disappear as they are brought to know Christ. They remain Lamanites, and we don't read anything of a mark being lifted, but we see them repent and that gap goes away!

You don't think it is Ammon like to contend for people with and in faith crisis? To metaphorically cut off the arms of doubt, misunderstanding, etc... That would steal them away from the fold. I think we can all be Ammon's at some point to serve and humbly protect the sheep to our charge by lovingly helping them loose the arms that would hold them bound. I mean this in the nicest way, but you are the most Ammon like person I know. A servant who contends with the mental and sometimes physical enemies of our day. Just a thought. Alma 19:13 says, "For as sure as thou livest, behold, I have seen my Redeemer; and he shall come forth, and be born of a woman, and he shall redeem all mankind who believe on his name". The Plan of Salvation defines the telestial and terrestrial inhabitants as those who did not repent and those who rejected the gospel. Since they did not believe on his name, what does it mean that they are not redeemed?
I thought it interesting that the king’s first response was to offer his daughter in marriage, which would have meant a high status. When he refused, the king sent him to probable certain death. He didn’t know what to make of him.
Just listened to this episode and was surprised to hear you use "unconditional love." Elder Nelson in the Feb 2003 article talks about divine love and cautions against characterizing God's love as unconditional; check it out
I appreciated your comments about a mission is more than finding converts, but is also to help a junior companion, or my wife, or my child, etc. But possibly there would be a better place to share these insights rather than to associate them with Aaron. Even though in jest when you were saying, Come on Aaron, punk little brother, I’m not here to babysit, etc. It felt wrong to me to make light of Aaron’s most difficult mission. Mormon said it was Aaron’s lot to serve elsewhere. The Amalekite city of Jerusalem was hardened. Muloki and Ammah also taught in the Nehor Synagogues, were mocked, smitten, tied with strong cords suffered patiently. In Mosiah 19, remember Aaron was the rightful heir to the Nephite Kingdom following King Mosiah and he was also the choice of the people to be king. Possibly, he was the oldest of the brothers, older than Ammon. Maybe he was a Hyrum Smith type who supported his younger brother. Possibly Ammon was more charismatic than Aaron, but surely he was no more faithful than Aaron. When I served a mission, I knew very little of the Gospel and even less of the Spanish language. I was most always assigned to be companions with DLs and ZLs. I was a hard worker. but it was difficult following these more prepared leaders around for almost 1/2 my mission. I’m grateful for those who had patience with me. When I finally became a senior companion, I made a point to help my companions to feel co-equal with me. We worked hard but we also made time to enjoy our missions. Remember Elder Bednar’s conference address in remembering and giving thanks to those of us in the Church who might never be recognized for our service. Thank you Ammon and thank you Alma, but thank you also to the many who were less known or not known at all - thank you Aaron, Omer, Himni, Muloli, Amman and many many others who were so faithful.
I think Ammon being sent to tend the flocks of the King was a punishment. You've got a crown prince refusing a political marriage, the King is like okay, lets just get rid of this weirdo in a way that "absolves" him of guilt. His astonishment makes more sense when Ammon comes back unharmed.
