Yeah we thought it was great! I’d be curious to go back one day and try the tourist train to see how much more luxury you get haha but we thought this was just perfect!
Lovely adventure..❤I opted for a full tour through an agency as was snow worst winter for 50 years ! and inc Kars Van Bitlis when got off train. Amazing. Had my own compartment. Didnt sleep as train was rattling Agatha Christie style ..no shower for some reason but still good and staff insisted on sharing their breakfast with me, we communicated with google translate .. a magic dream whole time. Train was late believe because of snow and whole group was interviewed by newspaper as they hadnt done tours to a certain area so we got a royal welcome lol.. Was a few hundred gbp but v cheap compared to a weekend even in Uk and inc so much food and lovely hotels in towns along the way. Rest of time I was in v basic hostels
That sounds like such a cool experience!! I guess we were pretty lucky with the train being fairly smooth the whole time but I can see how it would be hard to get sleep if it was any worse!
Hi Cute Couple 🙂 Name of the food you ate, is 'CAĞ Kebap' , not 'ÇAY kebap' 😁 So it's not the Çay for Tea, But Cağ, for the skewers used to serve this kebap. If you had eaten this at the restaurant they would bring it on skewers. Erzurum is famous with Cağ Kebap, therefore I know that people get phone numbers of restaurants near Erzurum station and preorder this Kebap for train service. It is like Döner kebap, but the meat is different. Döner kebap is made with veal, Cağ kebap with lamb meat. And the way they cook is different. They turn the meat Horizontal instead of Vertical.
Looks amazing. We haven't done enough train journeys, one in the US that was long and painful (we were unprepared), and one in Egypt that was just overnight. This looks like something we would enjoy!
😍Kars is so beautiful in winter. Went there with a tour for the real winter experience and it was such a small and a beautiful city(Not the mention the deadly cold 🥶) ☃️
The compartment you found is a so-called "couchette", the real sleeper compartments are more comfortable and have a sink in the room. Turkish trains have always a problem with temperature. In summer they are too cold and in winter too warm.
That would have been awesome! We were super happy with our couchette but we would love to try the real sleepers sometime. The temperature wasn’t too bad luckily! Thanks for the info 😊
We were lucky and got them the day before! We went to the train station to buy them. You can buy them online, but for some reason we couldn't get ours to go through

They are so cute , have a nıce trip guys
Thank you so much 🥰
We were wondering about this train. Other than the toilet 😱🤢 it looks very doable for the next time we're in Türkiye. Thanks!

I travelled a lot with Turkish trains. Usually toilets are cleaner. Much better than in the past.

Thanks for the info! We loved trying all the kebap and can't wait to get back and have some more 😋

We definitely recommend it!! If you can make it work, doing it during winter seems like the best time so you can see snow!

Oh yeah I bet that was gorgeous!! I don’t know if we could handle that region in the coldest part of the year though 😂 it sounds pretty brutal!
