    What is being shown on the video is not a clapper. A clapper is just the board. That is a point presser. It is to press open long seams like in a collar or sleeve. They are pressed wrong side up over the thin area which is used like a thin ironing board. So the point presser is 2 tools in one. The long, thin pressing area is not just to hold the clapper

      Indeed I just use a scrap of 1x4 wood from the garage workshop that I use as a clapper, does the job for regular pressing

      You'll generally find this tool referred to as a Point Press Clapper. It is very handy to have the two tools in one!

    happy to say that I I own all of these tools, except the clapper/point presser! They are all really useful :)

    I use a chopstick for corners. Works great especially for corners on purses. They are long enough to turn corners easily.

    A chain store called 5 Below recently sold the smallest little dust buster. It fit in the palm of my hand. I could easily see it being used to clean up table top mess. If you are working with little sequins or something like that and you maybe spilled them or some broke if you’re trying to repair or do tailoring on a garment with sequins. It was $5.

    Yes - multiple thread snips are super essential.

      Yes they are!

      I'm still trying out a few different styles of snips to see which type I like best - finding that I prefer the tweezer-looking ones the best - agreed it is ideal to have multiples handy, I actually glued a magnet to the side of my sewing machine to store my favorite thread snips right under the handwheel!

    For quilting rulers- they can slip while you are using them. There is grippy clear adhesive film you can apply to the back of your ruler so it won't slide, even on slippery fabrics. You may also want a handle or an edge shield. These will keep your fingers away from the rotary cutter, so you don't get cut. That hurts and blood on your fabric is not a good idea.

      Great tip!

      I use first aid tape for extra grippiness on my rulers ⛑️

    I thought a clapper absorbs the steam, leaving behind a dried, crisp seam.

    • @MarthaDiazTaylor
      @MarthaDiazTaylor ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is correct

    • @SeamworkVideo
      @SeamworkVideo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's right, the wood itself absorbs the steam, and traps the heat inside of your fabric, leaving a much more crisp seam. What is pictured is a clapper with a point presser. It is a combination of two tools. :-)

    I run a cord (long enough to be sitting at the machine and easily snipping) through my thread snips and wear them around my neck.

    Cool! What's the difference between a screw punch and one of those rotary hole punches that i have seen in the bagmaking supplies section?

    • @SeamworkVideo
      @SeamworkVideo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are similar in concept but they work slightly differently in terms of how the hole is made. You could probably use them interchangeably in most cases!

    Hello Seam works thanks.Some tools like Tailor Ham and Long Ham are still expensive.Why not make a video on how to make one.
    Here are some less expensive musts to have.
    Dust and Pan £2.00(For cleaning)
    Lint Roller £2.00(to remove threads that stick to our clothes when sewing)
    A nice Magnifier
    A powerful Table lamp
    A scale with metric and Imperial units
    A small Iron(Travel iron)
    This would cost about £10
    I got it in Lidl in UK.

    Do you have a link for the screw punch please? Wawak doesn't have one. my search is bringing up odd results that don't look like what you're using.

      Here's one. I haven't used this particular one but this is the first listing when I Google "screw punch": www.amazon.com/Nonaka-Works-%E6%9C%AC%E4%BD%93-Screw-punch/dp/B0041VMZYI/ref=asc_df_B0041VMZYI/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=475856001316&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15160037287332544980&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1027744&hvtargid=pla-596931789799&psc=1
