      95% of my kills were ammo explosions. I dont know a lot about ammo types, but shouldn't APFSDS rounds have, I donno, less explosive capability? In a modern MBT in War Thunder, a tank can have its ammo explode, but still be running. Only that the ammo is lost. Why in such futuristic and complex tanks do the same mechanics not apply?

    • @CT--yv6rl
      @CT--yv6rl 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@timm.4824 That further explains my topic. Ammo explosions should be GREATLY lessened. Or as you said, completely mitigated. I think they kept it to balance the tank out, and not make it too OP.

    I took an Advanced Solid Mechanics class almost a year ago and a composite barrel would make sense going off what I learned about pressure vessels. The inner layer of a pressure vessel only needs to be strong and hold in a fluid (in the case of a cannon it would also need to be heat resistant) so it can be made of steel. In order to make the pressure vessel lighter this steel layer can be made too thin to hold in the pressure by itself and a different lighter and stronger material is used on the outside to provide most of the strength. This material needs to be strong in tension and does not need to be able to stop a fluid from flowing out so a material like carbon fiber can be used which will provide the extra strength by "hugging" the steel inner layer. Carbon fibber is lighter than steel and also has the benefit of being more durable than the steel core so you do not have to work about dents or scratches altering the pressure vessel.

    Please do a video on adiabatic engines ❤ I'd love to know what they're like!

    • @jonasdietz3499
      @jonasdietz3499 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      adiabatic is kind of the wrong term for these kind of engines. They just try to reduce cooling by using very heat resistant materials in the surfaces of the engine. you can save some Energy that would be dissapated in heat. So you can use some of that heat in a turbocharger to increase the efficiency a little bit. The main benefit of these type of engines are that you dont have to protect a cooling device and save some room in a tank. But the efficieny wont increase that much with this type of engine. It will more likely decrease. And the wear of the Engine would be horrible.
      The Hybrid approach is more likely to happen. But it isnt unlikely that the rise of energy density in accumulators lead to full electric tanks.

    Actually, i think that next generation tanks will be drone tanks with batteries of optics and radar features, commanded by nerd guys in the base, as actual aviation for cas and ground support. It would keep crew lives out of the way and stil be cost effective as the encryption and com wars are the next gen fighting. With very less foot soldiers on the battlefield but very protected and commanding a group of ground war machines pretty much as a spotter for the machines targetting and fire order.

    a question about the chassis part; why not just make a chassis that a tank would use that way it already has all the armor and power it'd need and work down from there, like removing the turret to make it an APC and replacing the turret with a smaller one to be an IFV? That way you don't have the same weight and transport limitations since the chassis is already ready for the armor a tank might want. It doesn't hurt to have a heavily armored IFV/APC, I'd imagine the costs are already cheaper in the future and mobility won't be that much an issue, and on top of that the Israelis literally turned the Merkava into an APC. It doesn't lose any versatility this way either.

    • @BungieStudios
      @BungieStudios 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Magnetic fields can be used to confine and control plasma. It packs the ions and electrons into a tight space. Hypothetically you can use this to create projectiles or hot capsules of ionized gas.
      How that gas would react is anyone's guess. Would it splash and melt like Halo's plasma or explode on contact like Terminator's plasma. According to research done by USAF MARAUDER, they expect to explode like TNT.
      I was trying to find the source but I remember one university was able to produce donut rings of plasma. The first self contained magnetic capsules. Though I couldn't. I remember watching the video. It's a big step for science and is awesome for science fiction lovers but otherwise looks unimpressive.

This adiabatic engine thing seems to be a dead end as it doesn't work together with fuel injection, which is what every engine now has and would be a huge sacrifice. @@igncom1 the issues with missiles are they have bulky and expensive ammunition (compaired to cannons), this makes reloading more complex and time-consuming and dramatically increases training and operating costs. it also means you get fewer shots per vehicle. cannons are simply more cost-efficient and more space-efficient, especially with the increasing effectiveness of APS systems and other counter-missile technology.
      i think at best you might see RAVEN guns, gun-mortars, or some other low-velocity gun system paired with ATGMs (like the sherridan or M60 starship, or MBT, or the BMP3) as ultimately you still want that cheap HE capacity that cannons provide.

My criticism about Armata is that the entire tank crew rely only to camera system to operate tank because the "crew capsule" layout and really lack of traditional sight/periscope systems as backup. Making no way for the crews to look up into battlefield in case the camera broken. With current layout on most tank, the traditional periscope system is pretty durable, so it can be backup to additional camera system. And the crew can easily open the hatch in case the periscope broken.

      unmanned turrets have situational awareness issues that have yet to be solved, and if we ever solve them we will likely be useing drone tanks by then, hell unlike unmanned turrets drone tanks have already been used in combat. if you are going to loose the situational awareness and reliability (for lack of a better way of describing how a crewman can check a failed autoloader/etc) you might as well put the crew in a separate vehicle and save internal volume and thus weight and size and thus cost (amongst other things)

    • @92HazelMocha
      @92HazelMocha 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@matthiuskoenig3378 Not really; look at the Stryker 105. Not only is still possible to have the same situational awareness as a vehicle with a manned turret, but as the effective range of modern MBT guns is 2km plus, with modern optical systems you can have much better battlefield awareness. Your commander can’t spot a tank in cover 2km away with the naked eye, and seeing things in the immediate vicinity should be something the driver and rest of the crew should already be capable of. The BMPT terminator is a perfect example of how you can still have the same or better situational awareness and still have an uninhabited turret. Given that like the T-14 it’s produced in Russia, even without actually seeing the specs for the Armata we can imagine it has similar capabilities. Unmanned turrets didn’t make sense 20 or 30 years ago because the tech wasn’t there to give the same level of awareness that a human being could give, we’ve come a very long way since then.
      As far as “drone tanks” go, they’ll never become popular or replace manned vehicles. The sole reason is cyber warfare. Drone tanks like any remotely operated or independent machine can be hijacked and that’s a massive liability. The other thing is ping; machines can’t make decisions fast enough to compete with human crews (or accurately enough if they do manage that speed) and remotely operated vehicles have lag time between commands and action, such issues make them significantly inferior in combat to manned vehicles.

    I think a lot of future tanks will be much lighter than the current MBT concept. The combination of the need for rapid deployment is becoming more and more important. Most current MBTs are very limited in their transport options because they're so heavy. Even if we start using things like metal foam armor you're still limited by width and height.
    So we may see a lot more AGS systems. Especially as armor and point defense systems catches up to weapon systems. I also suspect we're going to see a lot more wheeled vehicles simply because of maintenance issues. Tracks are great for off road with very heavy systems, but, as noted systems are likely to get lighter not heavier. I think once they start putting some thought into tire design they'll be able to get much improved off road capacity. Not to mention the advantage of being able to loose a wheel and keep moving and fighting. Loose a road wheel, return roller, or God help you a sprocket, and your tank is now a pillbox.

      When you make your base chassis capable of handeling the weight of the armour of the MBT as the base requirement, than are the light vehicles of not so big concern. You have one production line for the hull and later when decided if its going to be an MBT or an IFV you mount the fitting torsion bars. On the spare part department you have a big +, because there all require the same parts(except the torsion bars and the special parts of the class), production cost lowers.
