Easy to forget just how good Minter was. You don`t beat Antuorfermo twice unless you are a supreme boxer. Only Marvin was too much for him. I know Sibson KO`d him but no fighter was the same after losing to the Marvelous one. Hagler said Alan Minter had the best chin of all his opponents;.....that is some compliment.
Alan Minter loved a hard fight ….every time he elected to “get stuck in “ rather than box and move …he had a great chin too and even when Marvin had him cut above both eyes and virtually blind he couldn’t K.O. him ….only a peak Sibbo had that honour ….
Watching the Minter v Hagler fight back again it is surprising how big Minter looked at the weight compared to Hagler. Had Minter not been so reckless and boxed from distance using his jab, as he did when he schooled Vito Antuofermo twice to win and retain the title, then he would no doubt have made the fight with Hagler go much deeper than it did. Although Hagler was clearly on a different planet.
Believe it or not Seales has had his vision restored in his later years (after retirement) due to medical advancements in surgery. I met him and he told me about it.
@@jamesmonteverde5538 pleased to hear that, and it sounds like the punches he took that he didn’t see didn’t mess him up too much. Could have been much worse for him.
@@steveg2479 Glad to hear that about Seales. I remember him for one of the best bouts I ever witnessed. That was in the 1976 Olympics against a Russian
Indeed he did. My only criticism of Marvin is that he never moved up in weight to fight anyone. All of the other members of the Fab 4 (Duran, Hearns Leonard) as well as all of the greats of this era (Floyd, Pacman, Canelo, Crawford, etc...).
@@cliffordhill2365some of them such as Duran, couldn’t make lower weights anymore. Hagler was not an especially big middleweight and in those days a move up in weight class would mean moving up a stone and effectively taking on small heavyweights. Don’t blame Hagler for not doing so. Far more weight categories now.
Sorry can't give him a pass on that because they had a 168lb division back in those days. Terrance Crawford wants to fight Canelo now. Crawford was once at 140 and Canelo is at 168. I honestly believe that Marvin and his camp knew he wouldn't be that guy dominating at the next division
@@cliffordhill2365 the 168lb world champions were just starting to get wider recognition but they were fairly undistinguished - Murray Sutherland, ChongPal Park for example. More money to be made with middleweight matches. Too easy to rack up multiple titles nowadays. Henry Armstrong held three simultaneously when there were only eight weight categories. That’s an achievement! Hagler is higher up in the boxing pantheon than many modern multiple champions.
Olympic Bronze medallist and professional hardman Alan Minter in his hey day. He would later be involved a now infamous match with Marvin Hagler who to be honest was almost too good for everyone.
Alan minter was a very entertaing accomplished top draw boxer. Sadly I heard in his later years life wasn't to kind to him. I firmly believe the boxing authorities eg WBA / WBC / WBO/ IBF should have retirement homes for boxers thst need assistance in coping with life in later years.
Alan Minter was a right hard case and a good boxer. A National Hero.
Sadly ended up a drunk, we used to see him in the pub in Reigate sloshed.
No ....he was not .A great boxer yes....but a long way short of a National hero....unless you're National Front 😮
Those were the days

Alan Minter was completely fearless.
He would fight the Devil and Godzilla on consecutive nights and not take a backward step.
I met AM on a train once. He was happy to shake hands n chat. Seemed a decent bloke
Hey, nice to see them having a respectful hug at the end.
Alan Minter was a top drawer boxer and entertaining! Marvin Hagler was a step too far.
That was a cut issue..but yes in the end Hagler probably would have won.
So really Alan Minter wasn’t top drawer, he was the layer of drawers below the top.
Minter was a top fighter, but Hagler was something special.
@@Music-oi2nf You don't become undisputed world champion if you are not top draw.
@@keithryan3528 what drawer was Hagler then? Above the drawers somehow?
Absolutely idolised Minter as a kid.
Me too !
Yup me too
Minter what a boxer he was. Pity his cuts stopped him.

Great days for boxing back then. So many epic bouts ❤
both tough, strong, and brave boxers .. cheers 🍻
Wow Alan was great a true warrior who knocked him out good
If I remember correctly, Seales could barely see at the end of his career, and used to fool the medical somehow.

Getting battered by marvellous is no shame…..minter was a great fighter
I think both of these guys fought Marvin Hagler at some point of their careers, anyway they both always gave it their all in the ring
Marvin took them both out.

Minter was my hero as a boy
Caught a good one both men hug prob good pals forever after from battle.. how should be...2024 pay attention.....
Looked as though it was Seals who was more likely to get the knockout... Minter was a banger, and what's known in the trade as a bleeder
Very true , was told that he never got over the hagler loss ,,
Quite a few of those punches ( from both fighters ) would level most men.
Boom boom minter robbed of olympic gold. What a boxer .👍
Boom.boom minter a great fighter. Beaten by hagler yes but let's not forget how good minter was
Lots of people liked to call themselves sugar.
Minter should trained'& Sparred in the US to work on his defence...He had all the tools, except for slipping more punches than taken them..
Minter may have been champion longer if Hagler had not come along
These where days when boxers fought whoever and left it all in the ring
And they fought 15 rounds

Monzon vs Minter would have been interesting.
Monzon too good
Amazing how far Minter got with no defence.
Boy that announcer can't stop saying Seales.
December 7th 1976 Royal Albert Hall, London.
Minter was Marvin Hagler's boy
alan minter killed Angelo Jacopucci...
Lousy highlights.

Met Alan some years ago in Littlehampton, looked terrible,he was in a pretty bad way, the boxing world did not look after him.
That's a shame . That whole haggler thing ruined him really. He was great boxer who never stepped back.
he sadly died of cancer a few years back,i watched him alot and did some work with his dad
He didn't look after himself & let the booze take over his life ☹️
He was sadly a drunk when we used to see him in a Reigate pub.
