    It’s so nice to see someone actually disassemble this thing rather than cut to a fully disassembled machine saying “it’s not that hard. There is really only one way to do it.” Thanks for taking the time to show us!!

    The Rainbow dealership in my country are some serious scammers which make you overpay for things you don’t need and try to always convince you to buy things from them.
    After this video, I am sure not to get in contact with them ever again!!!

    I have two of the black models both in excellent condition. However one seems to have a vin ration when running, and on its wind down, it seems the vibration noise gets a bit louder/more noticeable for just a moment or two somewhere in the from the moment it’s switched off till the motor comes to a complete stop. Separator is cleaned every two or three vacuums as is the gaskets, the first fan disk you can see appears clean but I wipe off what I can see exposed when the separator is removed. Bearing all seem nice and secure and smooth with no side to side or up and down moment at all. I change water two times while vacuuming to mess it’s the cleanest it can be before the motor. So, over the years I’m sure some dust will still accumulate on/in the fan disks. Will this be enough to cause them to spin out of balance this causing the odd vibration feeling and sound at full speed and during the wind down?

    We have the same machine, which we bought secondhand, and I will be doing this procedure very soon. Since we got ours, it leaves small amounts of water on the floor when vacuuming. Haven't been able to figure out where they coming from. Does not appear the tank is leaking in any way, but somehow water is escaping. We are sure to not overfill the tank, as I have had rainbows since I was a small kid with our D2. We still have our D4SE as well, just need to rebuild it. Appreciate the video and any insight you offer.

    I just purchased a rainbow and love it, and I am not the guy cleaning house. However, since owning this thing I have become obsessed with cleaning and so its been a win win. So I have two qestions and I have yet to get a solid/satisfying answer. What other "oils/products" can I put in the water, are there alternatives or other brands I can use or a recipe ? My second question is this, you stated not to leave it on the water. During our demo they said you can leave it on with the water in it and use it as an air purifier which I have been doing on a semi-regular basis, is this a bad thing. As it was sold as an air purification system as well. Thanks for the great video looking forward to more.

      Jimmy Albert hey you can use any fragrance oil you will find at any big box store as long as its liquid you should be fine I use doterra essential oils and it literally takes a drop of the oil as to leaving it on the water basin if the unit is running you are fine but you do need to check the water levels as the water will eventually evaporate I personally dknt recommend running this hours on end even on low that's what the little rain mate table top unit is for just never leave the unit sitting on the water when not in use or in storage

    I have an older rainbow vacuum with a little different turbine setup, I've pulled it all apart to clean out the caked on dust inside the separate fans, but I was curious about it's function, it's a layered propeller/impeller turbine almost like a torque converter on a car, the impellers being stationary and looked like they had once been glued to the whole turbine casing. But my question here, the three propellers that spin with the motor shaft, they don't have a fixed or keyed connection to the motor shaft and it looks like they spin up purely to friction on the shaft. I was wondering if I should put it back together that way or if they're just so old they're basically free spinning now and I need to re-attach them to the shaft.

    • @gagainer
      @gagainer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      put it back as free spinning... I couldnt get past that either to begin with but the plates are suppose to freely spin...there is an order which I am sure you noted...

    Hello! Thank you for the video with great tips on how to maintain the machine. I have a few questions for you! My rep who showed the vacuum told me to never turn my machine off. He said that the machine was designed to be used as an air purifier, therefore, the machine should always be turned on the standby mode when not in use. Your video says that the water may damage the motor over time. Should I not always have the machine on? Also, when you clean the pieces are you just using dawn dish detergent and water? Can I clean the brush heads and attachments with this as well? Thanks!

    • @gagainer
      @gagainer  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Brandy Porter thanks for watching and glad I can help.. it’s a false truth that you can run these machines 24/7 because the water will eventually be evaporated out and you have no kind of water to catch dust or debris so no I would say not to run it constantly but if you want run it for a couple hours then clean and store the unit until next time i would also only recommend running the unit for air filtration on a clean pan of water not dirty ... yes dawn dish works great on any of the parts it’s my go to for everything

      Have your machine serviced/tuned up every 4 yrs at a Factory Auth. service ctr and let them replace the hepa. You try to wash it in between and chances are you’ll ruin it. I don’t care if it’s made of special paper, you get paper wet you might as well throw it in the garbage.Leave it alone until service time UNLESS you use your machine after remodeling. Then you not only clog up your hepa but you also need to take your Rb to the service man right away. Use the right amt of water, don’t let it get too thick with dirt, clean your separator occasionally, never store the motor on the basin no matter how dry and never loan your Rainbow to ANYBODY. You follow these simple steps and this amazing machine will be with you for 25+ years.

    Any suggestions on a mildew/wet dog/vet office smell? I was going to buy a used rainbow from a friend but she said there was the smell. She took it a shop to have it repaired (a few times) but there is still a smell. It seems to only smell when run on high and vacuuming and also when the pieces are separated. (water basin from mount) I think the water basin might be an issue if the water was left in there for a long time and the smell has seeped into the plastic. I'm also wondering if the rubber pieces have absorbed the smell. I was going to tear it down and investigate for myself but I haven't purchased the machine yet LOL.

    • @jamyesmith2195

      Oh, I tried using vinegar and running it for 5-10 minutes. It still has that lingering smell. I read elsewhere that hydrogen peroxide could work since it penetrates porous items but was concerned with the bubbling of the water.

      there are a couple of things... if she took it to a non authorized rainbow place they dont know what to do...as in my video I normally tear a unit apart... most of the time the fan blades have junk in them that stinks and sometimes the foam inside the machine could have gotten mildew if the unit was left over water.....so its a gamble if she is offering you a great price like a couple hundred id by it and take my chances... . otherwise I would run from it....the HEPA filter on the back could be the culprit....if they tried to wash this that causes it to stink also you can try to pour clorox in the water basin... to kill the other as well...hope this helps sorry for my delay

    • @jamyesmith2195
      @jamyesmith2195 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I was wondering if it was the foam and my next thought was bleach. I also noticed there is a small black foam over the hepa filter and didn’t see that one yours. When I took the back off and look into the motor (through the little pipe) the blades look clean and there wasn’t build up like the white dust in your video. She said the filter has been replaced as that was the first thing the person did. I’ll ask about it being an authorized dealer. It was originally a grand but she said there was no way she charge a grand for a stinky machine. Lol. Thanks for your reply!

    • @gagainer
      @gagainer  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jamye Smith the black mesh on hepa is of no significance if she is cutting a deal I’d snatch it it sounds like it would be I t heater basin and or the separator that needs to be disinfected bottom line you ca track the source down and fix it

    Last thing. I labeled the top 2 fan blades, but not the 3rd, so now I'm not sure which way is up for the 3rd. I'm assuming that all the fan blades face the same way? So I would just follow the direction of the 2 above it which both face the same way... ?

      Brian Napiwocki the biggest goes in the middle the smaller go on top and bottom with the top of each showing the indented area sometimes if the bottom blade next to seperator looks bad I'll switch places as the one next top of motor usually looks great

    Thank You for video.... I have question. We probably ruined our first rainbow with carpet stuff.... After Hurricane Katrina we purchased a second one at a trade show and it has always had an almost unbearable high pitch coming from motor. I chatted with a buddy.. was this unit purchased new at trade show? If so how long ago exactly....if not and it was used... could be bearings The high pitch can only be related to the brushes or the main motor bearing not the front bearing I would recommend finding a rainbow repair shop and running it by if the unit was new when purchased you have a warranty with rexair....

  • @drbrycedavis
    @drbrycedavis 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hope you have time to answer a quick question. I cleaned the separator and then cleaned the seals around the separator. They were caked with dirt so I used some soapy water. Since that time the rainbow will not work. It started then stopped after a 30 seconds. Is it possible water got in the machine and burnt out a control board? That is the only thing I did and thought it was very simple.

    • @gagainer
      @gagainer  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bryce what model is it the 2 speed ?
      Unless the unit was tipped over bite even then the way the motor is designed very slim chance that’s the case make sure separator is seated properly and that you didn’t over tighten that nut .. Also does the separator spin freely by hand ?

    • @drbrycedavis
      @drbrycedavis 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it is a 2 speed and it moves freely. I just took it apart and put back together. It goes *Irt* like it is trying to start for 2 seconds then stops. I turned upside down and pushed the safety with a flat screw driver. The separator motor turns a few times then stops.

    Hello Gainer, I noticed a smell in my rainbow and started to investigate. I took off and cleaned the separator. After that I took off the interior panels. I made the mistake to flip the rainbow over and saw that the interlock plunger fell out and I can't figure out how to put it back in. It looks like it's supposed to go inside the interlock switch inside the water pan neck gasket. Can you give me any direction?

    • @gagainer
      @gagainer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Johnny Garza when you say interlock do you mean the water basin trigger switch?

    • @johnnygarza07
      @johnnygarza07 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, great response time! Well it's a little "T" shaped piece that looks like it's supposed to push down on the silver tab on a separate switchfor power. I found an area in the panel that looks like it fits so I put it back together in that place. I'm drying out my hepa filter now so I haven't plugged it in to see if I got it out together right. What do you think?

    • @gagainer
      @gagainer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Johnny Garza yeh there is no easy way to reinstall that other than hold it in place with one finger and slam the interior panel back in place it can be done but you have to get use to flipping it lol it sticks up through the t opening from the underside so it will make contact w the switch ... I hope this makes sense it's easier to show you but I don't have a pic to show you I am trying to remember if one of my other videos shows me putting it back together I would recommend just replacing the hepa next time I don't recommend washing them it makes the smell worse
