Thank you for uploading a movie about one of the lesser known aspects of WWII...The brutal treatment of women. Although not as devastating as Three Came Home (Claudette Colbert), it still presents the topic in ways that, hopefully, the world will never have to deal with again.
I wasn't sure what to expect when I started to watch this movie. But it's an interesting curiosity. Although made in 1948, it has the characteristics of a cliché-ridden WW2 propaganda movie. Is it worth your time to watch? Yes. I noticed that it's filmed in Baja, Mexico, at the Hotel Playa Ensenada. This hotel was opened in October 1930 and was a 5 star elegant hotel with a gambling casino. It attracted the Hollywood and international set to Ensenada, and former heavyweight champ, Jack Dempsey, was a partner in the development corporation that built it. A huge villa was built for Dempsey, just south of the main building. Al Capone is likely to have been one of the corporation’s silent partners. Of note are the two stars: William Henry and Virginia Christine. Both were relatively unknown but they had long and distinguished careers in the film world as secondary actors. They do a stellar job. A film about the hotel could have been more interesting -- and possibly more informative about who were the real enemies of civilization. As it is, the film is a shocking, laughable, shameless pulp fiction exploitation fairy tale. A German "cosmic death ray," indeed! A year after the release of this fevered fantasy, the real Shanghai fell to the Communist forces of Mao. As typical of such regimes, mass executions of so-called "counter-revolutionaries" commenced. Red Hollywood, however, didn't find such events worthy of its outrage.

There's another film, "A Town Like Alice," that deals with the same subject matter. It's excellent, a very much slept on film. I highly recommend it.
