      May I suggest not getting it as your first, you'll regret dropping a brand-new bike(which almost every noob does) Not to mention anything over 750cc is too powerful for most first timers. Get a cheap little used Yamaha V-Star 650 or Honda Shadow 500 to learn on for a year or two.

    I've been looking at this bike for almost a year now and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get it. I especially love those colors. The Scout really resonates with me. Looks awesome and thanks for the tutorial! Very clear and easy to understand!

      Open Roader I've watched way too many TH-cam videos about the Scout. I'm in college right now and only recently got into motorcycles in the last few years. I've taken the MSF and have basically obsessed over cool looking bikes on the internet so much I'm probably subscribed to more motovlogers than gamers. I'm waiting to earn about half of what the Scout costs, and my parents have said they'd be willing to pay the other half. I've heard it's a good entry level bike, but a few others have said I should start on something smaller. The problem is I just really love the look of the Scout. What do you think?

    Thanks for this video. Gonna pick up a tshirt from ya - tutorial is worth it. I've been riding a Suzuki cruiser to learn on after a 15 year hiatus from my first bike. Been saving for a year and wasn't sure between a Harley and an Indian. This video pushed me over to the Indian. I have bags and a sissy bar on my Boulevard. I spend 90% of my time on short rides but now I know what the Scout looks like like with this upgrade. It would totally make the difference when going on tours. WOW!!! Subscribed.       @@OpenRoader I agree, some of the aftermarket bags come with aluminum mounting hardware that doesn't hold up. I always stay with the factory accessories.

    Great video brother. At the end of the install, you mention you adjusted the shocks to account for extra weight. Can you elaborate some more please of show how that's done? Thanks

      kchikhaoui the bike came with a wrench, it's a common wrench for adjusting the shocks. You loosen a large ring nut and then compress the spring nut, then tighten the shock but again. Just do both sides the same

    Nice video! I do have a question though. I want to solo and camp on the bike. I currently have a dual sport, but previously had a Dyna Wide Glide that I camped off of all over the country.
    When I looked at the solo rack, which is mounted like the pillion seat, it states limit is less than 20 lbs due to the fender. How is the fender limited to 20 lbs for gear, but you can put a passenger on it with a seat?

    Hey ! Love your rant about HD dealership and their bad attitude. I had exactly the same in my own country (Belgium), and that's why I am now riding on a Triumph. A Ducati dealer in my region close their shop last month for the same reasons, poor personnel, they are even not riding bikes themselves, they are just salesmen with a fu**ing tie on their neck.     Great video! Wanted to ask how are the saddlebags holding up after several years of use? Love to hear your comments.

      The saddle bags have held up really well, did 12-15k miles with them, two up touring. In the end I modded one for a lock (video here: th-cam.com/video/6873g19Mmo8/w-d-xo.html ). But the biggest issues are volume of space and lock ability so I also got a set of Viking bags. I had to 3d print mount spacers (video here: th-cam.com/video/cIg1Y5hZCjI/w-d-xo.html ) but those have be awesome since. I switch back and forth. The factory bags make the bike narrower, so they are better for city traffic. But don't lock for the factory

      Yes, I can get my leather jacket into an empty factory saddle bag. The real limitation in the factory bag is the top opening. The bottom has space, but the opening is small. So things like gas cans and duffle bags dont fit

    Great video. I have this bike, the same color, but not the two-up gear. It's a great addition that I might try. But my bike drives me crazy with the low speed gear whine. Mostly during off-throttle deceleration. Does yours do this?

      Hi Kenneth, thanks for your comments. Yes, mine whines. I think that's the double over head cam chain and gear set whining. But not 100%. Doesn't really bother me TBH. Ride safe, enjoy that bike!

    Love Your Video! Receiving the Indian Saddlebags for my new Scout soon - since it looks like the saddlebags can be removed easily - do you have any knowledge on what kind of locks would work for these bags?

    Thank you great video. You talked about adjusting the rear shocks for a passenger and you said...."I already added 1 1/2 turns to the rear shocks..." are you lengthening the spring or compressing it? My passenger is about 175 lbs.....thank you.

      Hi Steve, thanks for your comments. In this video, I tightened the springs meaning that I compressed the spring. But it didn't help. The stock spring has a low strength rate. My wife is 135lbs and we were easily bottoming out the rear suspension.
      I ended up going with K-Tech Razor Lite rear spring/shocks. You can see a few vides here: th-cam.com/video/6EpMptkiags/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/ecuitlBC760/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/Wx-q7q-SS5k/w-d-xo.html
      They made a HUGE difference. I am still in the process of dialing them in. Weather has slowed that process (currently February 2018). I have put 2.5 full turns into the adjustment and they firmed up plenty. But you can also adjust the over all length and shock rebound, which I have yet to do. I plan to remove the shocks and lengthen them till I can get the correct ride height and then set the rebound.Good luck with your set up and ride safe.

    This is probably answered differently for each person and their needs, but do you find those bags are big enough? I consider myself pretty simple, and am curious how far you could go with those bags. Thanks for the video!

      Thanks for your comments. Your right, these bags aren't good for carrying much. I have been using a pair of Viking bags for all my touring. With them I can carry a one gallon gas can and much more. The issue with the factory bags is, the top opening is very small which limits what you can get in them. They also don't lock.

    Is there any way to securely lock the saddlebags on the bike? From what I've seen (and asked) at the local Indian dealership, you can't lock the saddle bags closed and all someone has to do to remove the bags is open them and move those two levers up. That's not too secure for saddlebags costing North of $1,000.

      This is true and I agree with you 100%. It's ridiculous. Although I never put the effort into making the bags lock to the bike, I'm certain something could be figured out.     What does it feel like to ride a passenger on your bike. I just got this one, and it does not have rear pegs. I would like to add them, but not sure if it's a waste of time, in my case.

      The Scout like most of these low slung cruisers have very limited rear travel and the stock spring rate is just at the limit of what it can carry when I have my wife, the saddle bags and gear loaded up. Earlier this week I ordered a set of K-Tech rear shocks and springs. We're going to see how they do. Even with the rear springs adjusted to their max on the factory springs, it's just not enough.       there are two seat options, the pillion and the touring. the touring seat is wider and is shown in the video. we have done a few 250 mile days and regularly do 100 - 150 mile days no problem

    Thinking of getting these bags after I just went through a nightmare with Viking bags, the mounting was awful and for 2 up riding it’s a nightmare trying to mount the bags to clear the belt guard. Will these bags give me trouble with clearing the belt guard if I have the quick release set up with a passenger

      Thanks for your comments. The factory bags are 100% designed to work flawlessly on the Scout, no issues with the belt guard. I have a set of Viking Bags and had the same issue. I created and 3D printed a set of spacers that allow the Viking bags to be mounted to both clear the belt guard and work with the factory removable sissy bar. If your interested in a set let me know. I have two sets (4 each) One set totally replaces the factory spools to mount up the Viking bags and the other set (4 each) uses the factory saddle bag mounting spools and is a spacer to offset the Viking bags to clear the belt cover.     I lost the saddle bag bolts, I know it's a M8 X 1.25 but I don't know their length (which is a bigger one) could you please tell me?

      I genuinely don't know the length, but, you should be able to measure the width of the rear frame support they thread into, plus the thickness of the spacer. One thing you don't want is the back of the bolt sticking through under the fender and making contact with the tire, just watch out for that and you should be good. Best of luck

      They were an extra cost and were installed by the dealer when I picked up the bike. I believe the exhaust needs to come off to install them. Not a big deal, but I bought the bike with the rear seat and pegs installed. Thanks for watching

      I already had the back seat and pegs, thats why you didnt see me put the pegs on. the rear seat and pegs were $500, the sissy bar, seat pad, rear rack, spools and bags were around $2400. certainly not cheap, but the quality is through the roof. the chrome looks like if you touch it, it will ripple as if its wet.

    How does the Scout handle when riding two-up? (Combined total weight is 360 lbs.)

      Hi Richard, in short, it does very good! But I did have to do a few things. I started with changing the rear shocks to a set of K-Tech Razor Lite’s and selected their heavier duty springs. The shocks have spring load adjustment and dampening adjustment. This allows me to adjust the ride between 2 up and solo riding in just a few minutes. I weight 185lbs, my wife, 120lbs, plus full saddle bags (gear, 1 gallon of gas, tools, ect.) and trunk (clothes, shoes, kitchen sink) and I would guess we have added close to 360+lbs with no problems. It did take time to find the right set up. We first rode 2 up without gear and I made adjustments, then with some gear, then full touring set up and I now have my settings written down and saved. I can now use the shock wrenches to make an adjustment, twist the two knobs for the dampening and that’s it! Soft or Firm. One last thing that I did do, was use a third adjustment on the shock and that is to lengthen the shock. With my wife on the back the rear of the bike sat lower, even with the other adjustments. So, I set up a camera of the profile of the bike, we both climbed on, checked the sag and made that adjustment so that the bike sits level with us both on. Right now, I have all the gear and bags off the bike and my soft setting in place and she rides like a dream. To date, the K-Tech rear shocks have been the best investment I have made to the bike.       I bought all the parts at the dealership I bought the bike from, but you can get them from any Indian dealer or online. The Bags were $1k plus the mounting spools which were $50 (I think), The rear touring seat $269, sissy bar $400, back rest $200, luggage rack $200, rear pegs $170. It add's up quick.

      Wow really expensive 269 for small padded seat? and 400+200 for sissy set up and 869+hardware cost for rear seat and suspension that was not designed to handle extra weight and you probably need to buy suspension as well...Great bike otherwise

    Hey man just checked out the video as I have been researching about getting my first bike and I gotta say how much I love the customizability of the bikes and how easy it is to do it yourself. Any advice on what to get for a first time owner?

      I'm 100% with you. That is something I love about this bike. If I bought a full touring bagger, then that's what I got, but the Scout is a Swiss army knife. My advice would be prepared to spend money for the accessories. None of the factory stuff is cheap and it all adds up fast. Also, look around for other brand accessories to save money ( other than factory). Ride save, thanks for watching

      Leonardo Hunt yes, that's true. they were actually put on by the dealer when I bought the bike, along with the rear set. I removed the rear seat and showed the reinstall for this video. Forgot about the rear pegs LOL.

    Here's how to lock them: I found a great way to lock them. Buy 4 - Steel Clevis Pin 3/8 X 1-1/2 .375 x 1.5, then buy 4 small mater locks: smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004Y8CQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, then buy www.harley-davidson.com/store/universal-saddlebag-lock-kit......and w/these you have a complete set of what you need to secure the Indian Scout Saddle bags. Use a 3/8 drill and drill through the latches inside the bag. Drill from back side to front of just the black plastic latch near the tip. Then use a smaller drill bit through the hole to make the back of the plastic wall of the bag - when you have the latches where you want them. Then drill through the back of the bag w/a smaller bit, and then turn the bag to the back and use the 3/8's to drill into the bag. Then put the clevis pin through the back and through the latch and you can use the master lock to lock it. On the bag....be mindful of the reflector clip and find a part center of the outter flap, but half way up from the base of the flap and where the bag curves/angle's back....then use a black maker to draw an outline of the black plastic saddle bag frame (one w/center hole for the lock w/two screw holes at the side)...then use a small pen knife (sharp) to cut out the center whole, and put on 1/2 of the lock - the key part. You will need to use a small hack-saw to cut back the screws on the backside. Then use a spade wood drill bit on the bag, not the flap and go slow to moderate speed ( from another marked outline of the black plastic frame - for the center whole) and cut out a whole. Then mark the screw holes and drill them out. Then install the lock - other half. You'll need to make sure the side slots are clear for the two parts of the lock to meet - once installed. The metal slides down the side of the locking mechanism. Once done....you are done. MUCH MUCH Nicer and more secure job.

      Martial 3231 they debuted the Scout 2 years again and I'm pretty sure it's the only bike in their line up that is water cooled
