This ends Gonzaga's 83-game win streak as a ranked team against unranked opponents (2nd-longest streak in D-I history)
It also ends their 76-game home win streak which was the longest since Lamar won 80 straight between 1978-84
Drew Timme with the most blatant moving screen of all time on the last possession...
Timme was getting away with murder on those screens and the clock always started late near the end of the game. Home cooking still didn't get it done 😅

That's because when they play a ranked opponent that is not in the conference, they play at a "neutral" site like the Spokane arena (not really neutral) like they did against Kentucky this year. (although they won that game) I'm guessing the two ranked wins were against St. Mary's.

What was more amazing (actually miraculous) In the second round of the NCAA tournament in 1990 shortly after Hank Gathers (teammate and leading scorers death) pulled off a 149-115 victory over defending Champion Michigan with much of their team in tact from previous year! Insane number of 3’s thrown up from deep behind the line.

I would agree but the wcc still has some good teams in it and every time they play Gonzaga it’s usually a good high scoring game. They always have a tough schedule against ranked opponents every year and that’s why they are always ranked so high. Also because they win a crap ton of games every year partly due to the teams they face in the wcc. I would agree though that they should be probably moved to a different conference where there is more of a chance for other teams to win. But Gonzaga probably will never because it’s such a small school and they are only known for basketball

Apparently the ACC and pac 12 are weak conferences also. You say LMU is weak but they beat wake forest who is 6-2 in the ACC. How about san fran who beat #25 arizona state by 37 points. 37! The WCC is not weak this unless you go to all the pundits on espn who get a paycheck to tell you how strong the so called power 5 are elite. Zags beat alabama by 10. Maybe LMU is better than alabama. Lets see bama beat #1 houston. I guess LMU is better than houston also. Its one game man. Look at duke this year they are terrible. Every year they get a top 5 preseason ranking.

It was clear from out-of-conference play this year that Gonzaga was not all that good. They have been climbing in the rankings since conference games started, but only because they weren't playing any one. Almost certain they will get another high seeding and see anoterh early exit.

@@GregoryKeller They've had five no 1 seeds and a two seed since 2010 but only two final four appearances. And in 2021, they didn't beat anyone with a higher seeding than 5. Statistics would say they are definitely underperforming their seedings. I'm not saying they're bad, just somewhat artificially inflated.

Good, hopefully it will build character in the Gonzaga players and their fans. It is better to have a wakeup call now than waiting till the championship playoffs. Lose there and you are out. Gonzaga needs losses like this so they can prepare for the finals.
I enjoy basketball I just don't watch a lot of it, and a ton goes over my head. Can someone explain at 1:10 where Timme sets up the screen for HIckman on LMU #0, #22 literally takes 10 steps backwards from the top of the key. Is he just not situationally aware of whats happening, like kind of lost, or is there some other reason for him being there that I don't understand?
His man walked 5 feet away to set up a screen and he just backpedalled and watched. It looked like he tried to box his own teammate out and you can see they are frustrated like there was a misunderstanding. Whenever I see stuff like this I wonder if its just a brain fart, or if there's something more that the layperson would miss? Either way it looks hilarious, legendary backpedal.
I realize the "ZAGS" are really good and have been for a long time...HOWEVER, are there ANY TEAMS IN THEIR CONFERENCE...THE GRIND SO TO SPEAK THAT IS RANKED IN THE TOP 100...not top 10...but Top 100...Kinda reminds me of what Clemson Football did for awhile..although, what Clemson did was more impressive...I would argue, even with the ZAGS having beat Bama early this season I do not believe they could come close to beating them today...nor do I believe the ZAGS would have had their winning streak of 20-30-50-60-70+ ever happen if they played in the ACC, BIG10 or the SEC....competition matters....not just for 1 game or big game every other month but big games twice a week...I get it, they achieved something no other teams in their conference did ...but to label them as being historically dominant would equate to placing Bama, Georgia's or basically SEC football team, almost any BIG or PAC team in their conference then salivate about how dominate they are....I just do not get it...I'm sure someone has pointed out...the last ZAGs possession, TIMME committed not one but 2-3 fouls...even with all of that...still impressive not to lose at home for years...Auburn has the longest streak now and they actually play very talented teams every week...They could be beat on Wed, Jan 25 breaking their home winning streak which is longest in the country now....we will see...

St. Mary's is very good. I think 17 -3. Also UC Santa Barbara, if they are in the same conference. St. Mary's freshman (Aiden Mahaney) is going to be fantastic. A coming pro guard who is flashy and shoots well, including the outside and at point guard handles the ball a bit like Pistol Pete Maravich. I wanted him to go to Cal but St. Mary's always had an in with him -- St. Mary's coach was Mahaney's coach in junior ball. Cal never had a chance.
If Gonzaga or St Mary's joined the Big Ten or any other major conference in the country, they would do well to win half their conference games. You live in a fantasy world.

Zags will never win a title until after they leave the WCC. The competition does not have them ready to face great opponents in the NCAA tourney.

Timme is a deserving, certified All-American twice over, but even so, he's not nor has ever been the best player in the country during his career. That kid at Purdue is better...that kid Juzang from UCLA a year ago was better...last year's #1 NBA pick was better.

Gonz is bums....they been trying to lose for weeks now, playing with fire and coming back and pulling out close wins. It finally got them. Timme, numbers aside, is a bum and choker. He started this game 1-8 fga, misses the critical free throw late in the game here, gets his shot blocked to end the game etc. All this against a very, very average LMU team.
