Thank you for pointing out the fact that the emotional development is crucial for the kognitive development... I work in a Kindergarten in Austria (ages 2-6) and we actually advice parents to keep their kids out of school with formal teaching for another year if we don't see them emotionally ready for the situation there.

I totally agree with Neufeld and this discussion.
I am retired now, but was a primary teacher in a great IBO school, where we had a big focus on the whole child Profiles. These were the character values that we wanted children to have, and we wrote this into our work. I was myself very sensitive, and through this focus, I was able to work a lot with children and their emotions. Although I had a class of 24, I always took time to listen to children going through any emotional upheaval. I think my students saw me as a parent away from home. 😂
