      LESS DIVISIVE??? Mutant Mayhem is arguably worse, we did not trade up we lost a precious gem of a show for intentional garbage looking visuals, EVEN younger turtles, them no longer hiding from the public, and my goodness their voices are super high pitch that they're just ear grating
      Rise had quality and from watching how the animators talked about challenging themselves to improve by watching each others stuff you could see in the finished product how much talent they poured into giving us the best looking show they could possibly give, and now all we're left with is chicken scratches and baby turtles, can we please go back to everyone being an adult again?

    The annoying thing with this movie is that executives wanted the movie to be accessible as possible. That's why we got casey instead of Cassandra, no draxam or yokai, and April kinda being a reporter.

    • @marvelmaniacs1
      @marvelmaniacs1 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      Wasn't April already a reporter in the show? I can't recall, but actually in my personal opinion think that works very well for the movie. Anyone can jump in at that point even though it's way better to watch the show in. That is how it should be. You can still watch it and enjoy it. For what you see it as and it's not like it really hurts the show like at all or even the writing within it. Nothing ever really feels forced in here or it is pushed in just to make you feel like you're included since you didn't watch the show, but you're jumping in anyway And if we're being real here, we really don't need to see the same villains that were already dealt with in the show reuse

    • @Spooder_Man1421
      @Spooder_Man1421 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

      @marvelmaniacs1 not saying april being a reporter kind of is a bad thing, just saying it was mandated to attract more audiences. In the show,' she was just always hopping between jobs and getting her apartment wrecked.

    I actually have an answera lot of these questions!
    They had a deal with Netflix that they HAD to make a movie. Before the originally promised 3 seasons were cut to 2 (or more like 1 and a half), the creators stated that season 2's villain would be the shredder, and season 3s would be the krang, and they even had plans for the rat king to be a potential season 4 villain. So basically they salvaged what they could to make this movie. They haven't really given up on the show yet and still say they could make another movie with the rat king as a villain. Honestly its really depressing that the show was cut when it was. The creators wanted a full 6 seasons, and it ended when it was just getting started

    • @GamerSlyRatchet1
      @GamerSlyRatchet1 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      Yeah, I didn't understand Xavier saying that the show wrapped up all its loose ends. They had to truncate and shorten a lot of their stories and it's why the finale felt so rushed. There's still unsolved mysteries like Big Mama's enforcer, and Bishop and the EPF or underdeveloped plot points like Cassandra as Casey or the Krang's connection to the Yokai City. It's one thing to accept the show's death, but it still had a lot of life left in it.

    After giving it some thought, I think this might be my favorite out of the animated Turtles movie. It's not overly-complex like TMNT, and the comedy and dialogue doesn't feel like they rely 60% on references like Mutant Mayhem. It's the right amount of action, humor, and heart I could asks for in a Ninja Turtles film. Plus, the glow-up the Krang has is insane.

    • @vedsona8707
      @vedsona8707 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +22

      The jokes in Mutant Mayhem was for a very specific demographic, and from what I know, current teens liked it a lot. Mutant Mayhem still had a lot of heart and action (one of the best scenes, in fact), and it had the most gorgeous animation. It's still my favourite, because this movie tonally clashed with everything the series was. It was hard for me to believe this serious movie was in the same universe as a show that bombarded you with jokes every second.

    The rise of the TMNT truly did have a bit of a bad start at first due to it not feeling like an actual TMNT series. Ngl, I fell in love with this version of Casey. This ragged little soldier, never being able to see his family again, loosing everything and everyone he ever knew and loved, only to end up with his family who still don't look at him as the same family he had, his quite possibly father figure doesn't look at him with the same care and love anymore, even though he's important to this version of Leo too...
    I gotta disagree with having nothing more to him. His backstory was never properly laid out to us - he always had to fight to live in this movie - but he has a **** up past with an apocalyptic future and having the grown up, matured, stronger versions of our beloved characters as his only team and family, *and* he had to learn from Leo, of all turtles. He can have some of the best backstory in TMNT ever, if it's explained properly. Hell, even his recovery from his traumatic past and discovery of the modern, rich world, and learning to fit into it as a soldier of all things is going to be hella interesting and tear jerking (if it's done well).
    Yeah, I need a full S3 about explaining his backstory and recovery, cause I need more! 😍😭

  • @fennecishere
    @fennecishere 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    First and foremost I wanna say your feelings towards the movie are completely valid, even if I don't personally agree with them. I can see where you're coming from.
    I adore the ROTTMNT movie, I don't see it as simple as you do. The baseline plot is quite literally "find the key, stop the kraang" but this is ignoring Leo's whole journey throughout the movie. It wasn't that he was too egotistical to listen to his brothers, that was a front. He was scared of not being needed in the team so he wanted to do everything himself. He went from being the "faceman" (which even in the series he admits he sees as worthless to Hueso, saying he's nothing without his brothers) to being the leader, a huge jump in responsibility for him and one he is in no way used to. The movie's purpose was to follow leo growing into the leader he needed to be instead of just leaving it off as a "oh and blue is the leader now". The movie is about Leo. It's also about the strength of the Brothers' bond. That's what their "magic powers" represents. Their ninpo is their familial connection, something the Kraang temporarily severed. The fact that Leo was able to help them all regain their ninpo shows how he's grown as a leader throughout the movie.
    Leo at the beginning of the movie didn't want to be useless, so he tried to do everything himself without listening to his team. He didn't want his anxiety about being useless show, so he made jokes and pretended to be egotistical. When Raph was taken, he was taking things way more serious but still had that thought that if he can't save raph by doing it all his way, then why is he even leader? Especially after he got him captured to begin with.
    Leo at the end of the movie even still has remenents of that mindset. He listens to his team now, sure, but when his family is safe he goes right back to doing it himself again, especially since this is also something he blames himself for. He lost the key, he's the reason the Kraang are here, now he'll be the reason they're gone. So he sacrifices himself. There are two possibilities for why he did this: He believes in Mikey to make a portal and save him (though how would he know that Mikey could do that, all he heard Casey say was that F!Mikey made a time travel portal), or he still believes that his family doesn't need him. He listens to them now, he is a good leader now, but he still hasn't learned that they actually need him. "This isn't about me" as he says. Casey says this because it's not about Leo, as in it's not about him having to do everything. It's a team effort. He takes this as a "They don't need me".
    Of course they do need him, and perhaps them saving him finally got that through his thick skull. Maybe he finally understands what Casey meant. Hopefully, lest he goes sacrificing himself again.
    Overall, my view on the Rise movie is it's mostly about Leo's growth as a leader, something we did need after the series ended and something the series did lead up to. There are tons of moments throughout the series that show Leo being a good leader, he just doesn't realize it. He needed the movie to truly grow into his role.
    Also, Casey Jr isn't supposed to be like the classic Casey, he isn't supposed to be Rise's Casey. Casey Sr is Rise's Casey. She just wasn't in the movie because of Nickelodeon wanting the movie to be more accessible, that's why almost none of the rise exclusive characters were included. It's a miracle they were able to include everyone's favorite gay couple, Warren and Hypno.
    Overall, while I disagree with most of your points, I still enjoyed the video. Keep up with the good work!! You're allowed to dislike things

  • @Whatsdogpee
    @Whatsdogpee 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I felt that the movie is a good conclusion. With the show being an origin version, I felt like the whole Leo being the leader was the last missing connective bridge between the Leo we got and the traditional leader Leo. Creators themselves said that they didn’t build up his promotion as well as they’d like in the series so I would say, they did a good job fulfilling that with his noble sacrifice in the end while still retaining his core characteristics.

It reminds of a post I saw where TV Shows don’t have real filler episodes anymore and all the episodes in that season need to matter so people can keep binging and watching. I actually really respect the movie for being able to balance the wire between satisfying diehard fans of the show and people who have never even watched Rise. I think almost any time a TV show gets a movie, the complaint is always, "only fans of the show will enjoy/understand this." Meanwhile I've also seen the other extreme. I've been a fan of Ninjago for as long as the show's been running, and when the time came for them to get a movie they sold their actual entire souls to make it "accessible for non-fans." They redesigned all the characters and changed all the VA's to be "cooler," they changed the entire premise, they basically made it a completely standalone film not even remotely similar to the show. The end result was that the existing Ninjago fandom was TICKED, and meanwhile the movie still didn't appeal to non-fans and was an overall flop.
    But meanwhile with the Rise movie, they struck that incredibly difficult balance. They pared out pretty much all the show-specific plotlines and characters, sure; they narrowed it down to characters and themes that anyone with a passing knowledge of any TMNT iteration would recognize. They didn't confuse non-fans with all the show's unique cast or backstory. But at the same time, they kept the actors, they kept the animation style, they kept enough themes from the end of season 2 that it still very much felt connected to the show's world. It didn't feel like they were completely selling out to get a broader audience. I have a lot of respect for that.
    And bonus point! Nearly every TMNT movie has featured a fight between Leo and Raph, but it's always been the same old theme of Leo being a stodgy leader type and Raph rejecting his authority. The Rise movie managed to keep the tradition of those two clashing, but like most things in this show they gave it a fresh new twist by making Raph the responsible one and Leo just too laid-back to care, rather than openly resenting him. Really appreciated that too.

    Think the only thing that makes me “mad” about Rise is the fact Nick is just ignoring it so hard, like that recent promo for Tales of the TMNT, where they showed every other cartoon, except for Rise. Just feels weird to me.
    Also, and I know this’ll sound odd, but I’d rather see this iteration continued through fan projects and AU’s, then if Nick were to make more. It’s more interesting to me to see fans come up with some crazy stories to give these characters more depth and arcs I didn’t even know I wanted to see. Like that Season 3 animated project that’s getting made. Hell, someone’s doing a My Life as a Teenage Robot animation called, “X-J9 and the Cat,” and I really wanna see that! It’s more inspiring to me. I don’t need or even want Nick to continue this show, at this point.
    That’s my tangent lol. Overall, while I personally feel this movie’s really great, I still respect your opinion and I am looking forward to more Mutant Mayhem’s take cause they really did knock it out of the park with that one. Really loved that movie.

    As a big fan of RotTMNT back in the day, i fully agree with this take - the s2 finale was a much better send off for Rise. For me personally, the biggest thing I disliked about the movie was the side lining and brutal treatment of Raph, as well as all the body horror and really disturbing imagery. It almost felt like they were going over the top simply because they could, but some of those bits with the Kraang really disturbed me. The movie really just came off as "how intense can we make this" moreso than "how fun can we make this?"
    Unfortunately, while some people in the fandom came up with some interesting post-movie ideas for art and fics, most of them just used what the movie did as an excuse to write/draw a bunch of TMNT angst and body horror of the turtles getting trapped in the prison dimension/dying/going through ptsd, etc. After seeing all that, I can't help but wish that the series really did end with just the series instead of the movie... the only thing I can really praise the movie for is the animation, Mikey getting to be a mystic badass, and Omar Benson Miller's incredible performance as Raph.

A real shame, but at least the main series had a sense of finality as-is.

    The thing that always made me dislike Rise of the TMNT is how the trained ninja still need magic weapons to win fights. Even against normal thugs.

    • @Dannytello9000
      @Dannytello9000 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      But that’s the point of Rise; they aren’t trained. The series deviates from normal tmnt, because it adds the very real plot of what it does mentally to a normal man when he’s mutated into a rat, and suddenly has to raise four kids! He was in his prime and didn’t want any of this. Everything about him is marinated in depression, so he couldn’t find the strength to train his sons. He barely raised them, making their personalities based on parental neglect, and how that affected the oldest (crushed by responsibility, only leader because biggest and oldest) , the two middle (adhd and autism, both feeling inadequate) and the youngest (shielded by his older brothers and a bit out of touch).
      Sorry for the rant, I just f’ing love Rise!!

    • @william3100
      @william3100 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @Dannytello9000 well it clearly failed because it felt really generic and so-so for a series trying to be emotional in that way. The TMNT are suppose to be regular ninjas. That's the point of the franchise! Any mystic or other stuff should only be added later on. This realism is what separates the franchise from every other superhero franchise. They already are heroes at the start of the series, so the title of the series feels very nonsensical, no matter what they're trying to convey with "rising".
      Not helping is that the characters practically feel like they have the same personality beyond plot stuff, and this is coming from someone who did watch the later episodes and movie. In terms of writing and faithfulness to the source material, it is kinda subpar. If you love Rise, good for you, but I can't see the appeal.

      @@william3100 I see what you’re saying, but if nothing gets changed the franchise becomes stale and boring. I find it a little funny that you want realism, when 84 had a portal to dimension X in the first season, and 2012 had Kraang in the first episode… TMNT always had sci-fi and fantasy, Rise just leans a lot more towards fantasy with magic and mystic stuff.
      A lot of people who haven’t seen the entire series claim that their personalities are the same, but you need to spend time with them to get to know them. It is more of a comedy, so everyone is gonna be comedic, but they are also so much more.
      I’m not trying to change your mind or anything, I just wish more people would get the same joy from the show that I get.
      A lot of people on the spectrum (myself included) seem to love the show, so maybe it’s more for us?

    • @william3100
      @william3100 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Dannytello9000 I meant realism in terms of the turtles themselves in how they fight crime.
      Instead of having super powers, they at least start off as normal ninjas and fight like normal ninjas with normal ninja weapons. If they get upgrades and go mystical or sci-fi with their weapons at some point, that's fine. But what makes the TMMT interesting was that they fought like mortals and were mutants as opposed to dashing-looking people in a way.
      You can add stuff to a franchise without stearing away from what it is. The movie and many parts of the series show off their personalities, and at best, they only have the slightest changes when it comes to plot. In terms of how they often show off their personalities and the humor they present, it all tends to bleed into each other. Even the beginning of a show tends to show the differences in the characters' personalities. If this show can't do that and rely on plot points to show "differences," that is a character writing problem.
      How the turtles present themselves and bounce off each other all feel like they share relatively the same personality with, at best, Raph feeling like a tough version of Mikey and Donnie being a smart version of Mikey and Leo feeling like a somewhat arrogant version of Mikey at times. They feel inseparable most of the time.
      The comedy of the show itself is also done in a kinda predictable and uninspired way, too. I don't mind more comedic turtles. Just make it good comedy. Sometimes, I get a laugh here and there, but it's mostly dry in that area.
      I like some of the ideas in the series, though. I like making the turtles look more different in appearance, though making them different species is unnecessary. Making the Krang an intimidating threat is cool, too, and the art style and fight scenes are pretty nice. There are things I do like about the series. It also did get slightly better as it went on.
      Personally, this series is meh to mediocre to me. It's not the worst or the best, and I think people both give too much hate and too much praise.

    Which is just to say it was always implied to me that Cassandra was the genuine Casey Jones of the show and I think she's a really fun adaptation of the character. And the Casey from this movie could be seen as his own character.
