  • Newburg has always had a unique fleet for WM. Several years ago WM bought this yard from a local hauler, Newburg Disposal. Even after several years, they still have a number of the older trucks running here. However his Ford was only recently reconditioned and put back on the road. So on my way back from Portland, Alex and I decided to stop and peek through town to see if we could get lucky, and we sure did. A fantastic looking truck being run by an exceptionally nice guy made for an awesome afternoon.
If I understood correctly, he said they made these cabs for one more year before discontinuing them, which would suggest that this truck is a 1989. 1990 was the last year of the Ford C Series.
Thanks to the driver, and Jared for telling me this truck exists.
And for those wondering, it looks like the (other) WM Lodal ASL is now gone as well. WM is also tying to switch away from split body ASLs in this yard and as a result, several Amreps are being brought in from other locations and it would seem as though all of the Cool Hands/Automizers will all be gone soon, if they're not already gone now.

I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I like seeing WM yards that are different from the rest with their unique equipment. I grew up watching the c series fords so there's a special place in my heart for them. Keep up the good work on those vids.

Amazing truck! Never expected to see anything like this in WM colors. Looks absolutely stunning! The kick bar works really well, definitely beats the winch system. The Ford definitely adds to it! Much enjoyed!

There used to be a Ford just like this where I live that ran for a local hauler, DC Disposal. Used to love seeing it around, just don’t see these cool old trucks at all and nice to see that WM is taking care of it.

What a beauty. After spotting this truck in the yard with Jared at like 9pm it's awesome to see it in full daylight and in action. Props to WM for refurbishing this thing, it has lots of life left in it yet. The single handle packer control is a nice throwback but what's even cooler is the massive lever for the kick bar. Just looks so out of place lol. The C Series is amazing, no doubt your main motivation for catching this truck, never took you to be much of an RL guy. ;) Loved the vid!

georgewuzheer (older) rear loaders have grown on me tremendously in the last 2 years after working on one. But I'm only more recently really learning more about them. Pair them with an older chassis and you bet I want to film them haha. The single handle was neat for sure. And I love the lift system used on this truck and the majority of Oregon. Its not the best with cardboard as I learned here, but it works great on the 1 & 2 yarders which are so popular for trash in Oregon. Thanks for the comment!

Awesome find! Been waiting to see this one. That's a neat tipper. Folds up nicely and tips well. Never seen one like that before. Works real good. Real glad that WM decided to keep this one around. Definitely surprised me too. 2:25 was a neat Dumpster. Really like the driving clip where you could see the front of the truck as well. Amazing truck, really happy to see this one on the road. Btw, how big is the Newburg fleet? I never really thought they had too many trucks, but it seems like they do have a decent amount. Any possibility you can give me a run down of what they have these days?

where and when I was a kid, we burned the trash in an old drum with holes on the side. then a farmer picked it up in his truck. they control your garbage and health care. when I was a kid I worked p/t for a furniture store. we burnt the cardboard in an incinerator

Oh just looking at that cab you know this is an old truck, but it looks in damn good condition, very presentable, though the cab must come across outdated to people who don't even known trucks I reckon =] I really like that lifter set-up for the smaller steel bins, reminds me so much of paladin lifters, only this one handles the heavier containers! I wonder if those latches which lock those handles ever break off during the cycle, because they don't seem too beastly compared to the container they restrain. I'd love to see what these single pack levers connect to and how they control all four stages of the cycle... speaking of levers he's got plenty to hold onto with all 3 of them. Also was happy to see the winch in action, interesting shaped bin too. I appreciate his use of that wooden stick to poke at the cardboard and slide it out... I used to just jump in the raised bins and use my hands haha A smooth scream to the engine, suits the look of the truck too... sounds good when it loads up with pressure just near the end of packing.

Yeah, this old thing definitely reflects the era it was made in. Originally designed by Mack over 50 years ago and seeing virtually no changes since then aside from Ford making it. I've always been a bit curious exactly how the single lever pack systems work too. I recall seeing how in the past but I've completely forgotten since then. What I hear about this truck now is that it's a last resort spare that is rarely used, but soon will become a parade truck that'll be shined up once again to be used as a show truck. Fitting new life for this truck I'd say.

Very nice video Mike. This truck sure looks good in WM colors and the LEACH body. Kept in pristine condition. The chassis it's self is a 1989? Seems a bit older.. or am I reading the description wrong? Also interesting way of the dumpster tips. Usually dumpster tips from HEIL and McNeilus are the same. Very fun truck to watch, esp on overloaded recycling bins with cardboard.

Can they use the kickbar without the hooks? it's a cool truck

  • @Trashman242
    @Trashman242 9 ปีที่แล้ว

hah, well this is a little bit cool. lol amazing, amazing catch! love those unkempt hydro hoses on the packer. Also occurs to me that Oregon's/Washington's system with the folding arms must be a bit quieter than the traditional latches and kickbar, since the dumpster isn't bouncing off the bar and slamming into the rubber stops... How many dumpsters did you service via this method with Star? (And any further impressions/thoughts on the method?) Did you happen to learn if this driver originally worked for Newburg before the buyout? And on that topic, how long ago did WM consume the old Newburg Disposal?
Can't beat this truck's whine, reminds me very much of the older AW rear loaders that used to run around San Mateo, at least per the few videos I've seen of them. Apologies for the swath of questions, but thanks for filming such an uncommon truck. Even for non-public, non-Fortune 200 companies, a Ford C-series used regularly in the trash industry is extremely unusual. Great that this location has kept the cab looking pristine, and those wheels nice and white! I'm actually okay with the 1/2 yellow tailgate on this, you can tell @ 5:43 that it matches perfectly with the lower brace on the body. Only way to clean up the whole look would be a signboard that just has a nice "WM" and nothing more, but don't say I'm complaining :)

***** This lift method can be quieter yeah, but I'll say that it sure wasnt when I was using it :P I didnt have time to wait for gravity haha I serviced roughly 20, ranging from 1 to 2.5 yards. Its really fast when you get a system down. Its great when you have multiple dumpsters in one location because its very easy to use with one person if needed (so long as the latches function properly, which our at Star, did not) shocking I know.. Though you'd probably not want to use it for any larger dumpster than 2.5. It was a little tough with the Mark III since the blade cycle required that the dumpster be brought back down, but with a conventional rear loader it would work great with trash. Just struggles a bit more with cardboard as seen in the video.
I dont recall if he said he worked for Newburg, though he knew a lot about it so I am under the impression that he was employed by them prior to WM. As for how long WM has had this yard, Bryn and I were there some time ago a driver said about 6 years ago. So about 6 years prior to whenever we filmed there was haha. They still run the C series container truck too. Thanks for the comment and I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as you did. I made efforts to film a couple of the other C series' that roam Oregon but it was to no avail.
