I really like how you incorporated the 1e version's whisker-tendril things into the design, which, combined with the pseudo-crocodilian look, makes this dragon look really, really distinct. Nice work, as usual!
Good work on drawing on the Orange Dragon my friend! This orange dragon looks like a mix of cuban, siamiase and nile crocodiles and one standard western dragon with spitting cobra style. And it looks so intimidating and cautious!
You made this creature from a half-baked afterthought into a rich and flavored creature. I really want to put this in my game now. It has a unique environment and personality. It doesn't seem to encroach on any other dragons style. I personally would change the breath damage from fire to force as to have it not step on the red dragons toes.
I’ve got to use this beast now. Sodium fires sound like such a fun scenario when dealing with a creature like this. It also looks amazing, as always. Dragon December is going so well!
An orange dragon! It’s so simple an idea yes so amazing! design my god it’s stunning!!!! Would you mind mind if use this design in my campaign it’s just so perfect!!
My favorite type of D&D Dragons came from 4th Edition: The Orium Dragon likes to discover, protect, and restore ancient ruins as it’s lair(s). It’s breath weapon is gaseous vapor that forms into a serpent and continues to fight and maneuver after the dragon exhales it. I always pictured a patron/ally dragon for my PC’s that was kind of a cross between the Caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland and Morel from Hunter X Hunter (who could animate smoke he exhaled as a fighting style).
Idea to make it's breath weapon: may be make it have 3 of them 1st is the yellow stream of fire. 2nd an oily gonk of their sodium reach saliva that can burn players and rust armor. 3rd a stream of water that can knock you prone and if you've the saliva on you instent fireball
I definitely plan on going full on arrogantly delusional...it definitely helps to have a monster to base it on ;) Thanks so much for your kind words and for watching!
Red/Black - a deep maroon color, closet to black around the belly and a brighter red on the edges of the more plate like scales. The combination of the foreword facing horns of the black dragon and the backward slopes horns of the red dragon gives this dragon an almost demonic like head. These dragons have a preference for volcanoes surrounded by tropical jungle for their lair, they like seeing the encroachment of life upon their fortress of death, especially when they burn it to the ground. Their environmental effects creates sulfuric smogs for miles around wether the volcano or active or not (or even if they didn’t find a volcano to lair in). Their breath weapon is a napalm like fire gel that is nearly impossible to put out (napalm raining down on a jungle gives them a very vietnam war vibe that I wouldn’t necessarily stray away from). In combat they’ll usually start with strafing runs in attempt to sow chaos in the battle, they follow this up by swooping in to grab enemies so they can drop them from the sky, usually far away from their friends. The more separated the trespassers are the more fun it is to land in front of them and use their intimidating to make the victims cower and squeal before their short and painful death. The worst possible mixture of a black dragon’s cruelty and a red dragon’s tyranny these dragons want little more that to bring death and destruction to as many of its enemies as possible and when you’re a Red/Black dragon everyone is your enemy. The level of hatred the possess is so deep it actually manages to eliminate their greed, thus why their hoards are filled with but one thing: the skulls of their enemies. Younger ones are constantly hunting and killing only eating when they need to, as they age they learn that there’s more efficient ways to kill than one at a time in the woods, they learn to wage war.
Thanks so much Kpny! That's a really wonderful compliment to receive. I'm really glad that you like my work, so thanks so much for watching and for taking the time to comment!
I like the whole oil idea and it really inspired me to think of my own take on it, Maybe it's breath is just sticky oil that's highly combustable and it has a hard plated tail piece that it slams onto the floor creating sparks towards it's oily breath, love the look of this guy also keep up the good work :D
I really like this homebrew you created! I'm definitely gonna use this in my campaign. It also got me thinking about the other colors in the color spectrum. I think it'd be cool if every color on the ROYGBIV spectrum was represented. And I had some ideas for an Indigo Dragon. I envision them as being nocturnal hunters who breathe a gas that puts their victims to sleep. Thoughts?
Oooohhh that sounds really cool, Carlisle!!! Have you made some stats up for your Indigo Dragons so far? If you end up making some, let me know! I'd love to take a look! Cheers for watching and for your thoughts.
I wish ud do crystal dragons, those dont get enough love but i absolutely love them, Guess when i get my job I'll have to donate to the patron so i can vote next year : )
Green/White - a light, almost yellowish green, it had the back facing head crest of the white only it follows through into the back fin of the green dragon the whole physique being very slender and streamlined. Their primary habitat is the taiga and preferably near a source of water, because they stick out like a sore thumb they use their environmental effects to increase the number & size of trees and if they find some sort of ruins or caves they will absolutely take advantage. The breath weapon is a poison gas cloud that psralyzes targets in a 60ft cone. In combat they will almost always open with it before going into hit & run tactics against anyone resisting it’s breath effects. Though it will try to keep as many humanoids slice as possible to play with afterwards. Much like green dragons it loves manipulating others but the blood of the white dragon turns complex mind games into a child playing with action figures. After the fight it will breath directly into the victims mouth (requires them to be willing or incapacitated) which keeps them paralyzed permanently unless a heal spell is cast or an antidote made from the dragon’s poison gland is administered. Once they’re permanently paralyzed the dragon plays with them as they see fit, sometimes stabbing their hands with spikes attached to chains to make puppets. Younger Green/White dragons play very rough with their toys, the victim rarely surviving a few days of treatment. The older ones are more careful with their collection, using lair actions to keep their toys alive nearly indefinitely. When their toys do die they often get irrate about it a end up breaking them more wether by crush them or tearing off their arms, usually when they’re done they impale their broken toys on trees. Capable of swimming like green dragons and walking on ice like white dragons they will often base their lairs around bodies of water, this is helpful not only because of their movement but also since most humanoids settle near bodies of water. While they do possess traditional hoards their victims are the real treasure and also the reason these dragons are so reviled. Often Green/White dragons that have lived in an area for a long period of time have scouted out the local prizes and already decided which ones they NEED for their collection, and due to their speed they can fly in, grab a target, and fly out before anyone is ready to fight back. The oldest dragons can animate paralyzed humanoids to do their bidding making encounters with them quite frightening, especially if the barbarian fails his save in the first round.
haha! I feel like players taking 6D8 "meaty chunk" damage would definitely catch their attention as this thing blows up! Cheers for watching and for taking the time to comment.
Been planning it for a while since this one came out but I am using an orange in a one shot this weekend. Redesigned a little using ZeeBashew witcherize your monsters formula.
Idea for another hybrid Black/Blue - very dark blue in color, possesses horns of both blue and black dragons making it quite menacing looking. t They primarily live in vernal pools and through environmental effects increase the pool’s size dramatically half the year creating large lakes seemingly out of nowhere (each year the pool is more alkaline becoming more and more hostile) and then drying out the water entirely killing the life that had come to subsist off it and necrotically absorbing the energy of their death it does this for about 10 years after which the environment is ravaged beyond repair and they move on. The Black/Blue dragon’s breath weapon is a charged chemical burn (discharged after 3 steps: alkaline powder stored in 1 gland is released and then mixed with swallowed water to make a liquid base, as it is shot out at high velocity an electric discharge is sent through the chemical, not enough to do electric damage but at just the right level to provide a shock capable of shutting down nerves) that stuns the victim before dealing instense tissue damage, they can both swim and tunnel reflecting their duel heritage and they utilize both methods depending on the point in the cycle they’re within. Their tactics changed based on the time of year: if they’re in a pool they will attempt to stealthily swim up to the intruder, grab them with their mouth and pull them under water where they’ll take them to the deepest point and begin tunneling to trap them in a lair of mud and silt so they can’t float to the surface, they will rinse and repeat up to 3 times or until the remaining intruders pose little threat, at which point they will spray them down with their breath weapon and then drag the corpses in the pool to be further soaked for eating later. When the pool is dried the dragon first burrows into the ground and encrusts itself leaving husks of their victims, anyone who stumbles into this layer is met with a surprise burst from the seemingly hardened ground (after burrowing again a lair action makes it look undisturbed once more) and without water to make their breath weapon a liquid they instead breath out a cloud of alkaline powder that reacts with the skin of everyone in a 60ft cone, the discharge becomes negligible but the irritation impairs vision as well as getting into the lungs at which point internal damage gives exhaustion to the victims and the damage can’t be healed by non magical means. After the initial breath weapon in tunnels back underground where it begins pulling victims into the ground one at a time, after defeating its prey it bites and sucks out all the moisture shriveling their bodies. After stripping the local area/region entirely it moves on to a new one, it’s area growing with age, a wyrm can flood a kingdom and then leave them dry, each year their water being less and less usable. They have both the sadism of the black dragon and the love for trickery of the blue, thus they will often use lair actions and environmental effects to lure in victims, younger ones will often draw in local villagers convincing them to take a “relaxing swim”, adults will attempt to drawn in adventurers and warriors into an ambush to leave those remaining without defense and the oldest will influence they people of the region to become stubborn and unwilling to leave despite impending doom. They don’t have a favorite treasure and usually have small hoards due to how temporary their lairs are but when they leave they salivate all over their treasure as well as any other treasure they happen across as the odor is strong enough to keep away most dragons and those determined enough to get past it will find gold encrusted with a nasty lair of hardened slime that ruins the gleam of gold and the sparkle of gems, Black/Blue dragons care less about what they have and more about what others don’t.
"When I think of Red Dragons I think of a lot of horns, they're very..." then there's the very briefest of pauses. Juvenile mind of mine thought "HORNY!" Alas, you didn't go for the immature joke. Very grown up of you.
As a welshie I can offer some more knowledge on this. "The ginger dragon might seem like they are rare or dying out but this is not the case. Most ginger dragons hide away from the eyes of the dragon dragons colours for fear of bullying. It is years of this horrible activity that results in them lashing out at anyone who tries to go near or offer them help. They are usually called Dai and look for caves in or around valleys. Of all the dragon colours, the ginger has the strongest singing voice and this sometimes get them unwanted visitors who end up exploding over their cave. It is easy to befriend a ginger dragon once you have reached the cave, simply leave a keg of ale and tell them how beautiful their valley is and soon you will have a lifelong friend."
I’ve been trying to find someone that’s faithfully recreated these 3 dragons in 5e. Also love the orange dragon
I really like how you incorporated the 1e version's whisker-tendril things into the design, which, combined with the pseudo-crocodilian look, makes this dragon look really, really distinct. Nice work, as usual!

I like the shades of yellow and orange you used, as well as the cool dark red color on the wings.

Returning to my favourite Arcane Forge video just because I can't get enough dragons!
Always glad to have you back Aldrin!
Thank you for making a stat block for this thing, I'm definitely going to steal this and confuse my players with it
No worries at all, Dakota! I hope you have loads of fun with it! Thanks for sharing with your players!
Orange is my favorite color, dragons are my favorite creatures. Today is a good day.
Going along with the alligator idea, they have a muscle in their throat that keeps water from going down their throat.
That's insane! I had no idea!!! How perfect for this type of dragon!!!
An orange dragon! It’s so simple an idea yes so amazing! design my god it’s stunning!!!! Would you mind mind if use this design in my campaign it’s just so perfect!!
Please definitely do, Ragnarok! That would be really lovely! All I ask is that you let me know how it goes!
Arcane Forge absolutely!!
This is the best December ever! (My Decembers are usually horrid.)
Not gonna lie im jealous of those old dragon magazines 😂😂 Truly amazing work as always I'm hoping one day I'll see your work in a monster manual 👌

Orange is my favorite color, fruit, flavor, sound, touch and now it's my favorite dragon.
Amazing! I love the sparking globules of drool catching fire as they drop from its maw... superb stuff, sir!
Got another monster suggestion today. The Cave Dragon, one of my personal favourites from the Tome of Beasts.
Yes, I love it! The Fire Dragon is also amazing.
Idea to make it's breath weapon: may be make it have 3 of them 1st is the yellow stream of fire. 2nd an oily gonk of their sodium reach saliva that can burn players and rust armor. 3rd a stream of water that can knock you prone and if you've the saliva on you instent fireball
The last 2 can be lair actions
I love your lore for this one! It sounds like it has some great roleplaying possibilities for a GM to go full on arrogantly delusional!
I definitely plan on going full on arrogantly delusional...it definitely helps to have a monster to base it on ;)
Thanks so much for your kind words and for watching!
I know Tiamat is coming up soon, I hope there's some nods to Takhisis from Dragonlance
You should do Bahamet the platinum dragon god also! I just kindof want to see you draw a godly looking blue eyes white dragon honestly

Love your artwork, love your videos, love it all! I think your voice would be great in a nature documentary.
Thanks so much Kpny! That's a really wonderful compliment to receive. I'm really glad that you like my work, so thanks so much for watching and for taking the time to comment!
During the first two minutes, before he added arms, it looked like the most awesome seahorse lord ever. Sea Dragon don't need no arms!
The draconian equivalent of "original character DON'T STEAL"
Orange dragons: Just stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to...
I like the new intro for this month!
But I must keep the show going
I recommend to do Will-o’-wisp and Wraith :D

@@ArcaneForge I haven't made any stats for them quite yet. All I've done is come up with a basic concept.
Also the home brew link doesn’t wanna work
Thanks Josh! Great work again!
I'm going to be forced to use one of these on my sea campaign on am island! Another great job. Thanks and keep it up.
pls do a carrion crawler
I wish ud do crystal dragons, those dont get enough love but i absolutely love them,

one of these things goes to drink some water and just explodes, that would be an amusing encounter.

It’s really long but it was fun to type up so I don’t care too much
I can't help but wonder how it drinks. Surely it needs water, right? If anyone has an idea, share it with me, please. I'm rather stumped.
