I was there in 1996. It was beautiful then as it is now. Yes, it was played fast, but tonal distortion and reverb can change the recording quality.

Bevor Sie derart verblödete Kommentare von sich geben wäre es besser, Sie würden sich zuvor übers Internet erkundigen und nicht mit Ihrem „Halb- bzw. Nichtwissen“ unschuldige User öffentlich beleidigen!
Offensichtlich ist Ihnen Ihre „Schlauheit“ etwas zu hoch in den Kopf gestiegen, solche Leute hasse ich!

Stattdessen hätten Sie in einem normalen Ton auf diesen Fehltritt hinweisen können, ich hätte mich sofort entschuldigt und meinen Post korrigiert. Unterhalten Sie sich immer so zivilisiert und suchen Missverständnisse mit Drohungen zu klären? Sie unterstellen mir Verfolgungswahn, dabei zeigt mir die Tatsache, dass sie aus meiner nicht in böser Absicht erfolgten Fehleinschätzung schließen ich wollte sie beleidigen eher, dass sie unter solchem leiden. Very bad and incomplete recording of this piece. The organ sounds like it is having problems or it could be the cell phone cant pick up the lower notes.

Right the 32‘ Bombarde Sounds like its missing at times. Could be a problem with the organ or indeed the cellphone mic

most phones don't have the capability to pick up the entire range of frequencies. they concentrate on the human voice ranges.

Widor's own recording was 6 minutes and 23 seconds. I have heard this piece played in 3 minutes and 57 seconds. I take it at 5 minutes 10 seconds to try to ensure clarity. That said, on a nasty electronic two manual organ in bad acoustics, I dread being asked to play it for weddings, and try to steer the couple away from it gently :)

​@hughmackay5200 I'm so tired of this argument - that recording was done in 1932, shortly after the Maestro's 88th birthday, and only one year before he retired. additionally, the instrument at St. Sulpice was (and still is) a tracker - hard to imagine an 88-year-old playing this piece much faster on such an instrument. additionally.. there's a LOT to be said for artistic license / re-interpretation, and I don't believe any of us should feel beholden to any "rules" put in place by the composer, even if they were fussy about it at the time. given the attention span of the average modern person, it doesn't make sense to play this piece at a glacial pace that takes ~7min to cross the finish line.. and to those that insist on playing slower in a space with more reverberation, I have one word: articulation. I've performed this piece at the Washington National Cathedral, and it's definitely more technically demanding to adjust your playing to a "5-second room", but still very much possible :)
