Their albums are all spectacular! Listen to them over and over and the genius comes out. I discovered them when I was around 18. Have been listening to their catalog ever since. Brilliant once in a lifetime band! I was fortunate to see them 3 times!
Me too, back in the seventies. I think my head exploded a little bit hearing them for the first time. So much music these days is like sausages from a factory. Gentle Giant are so different from anything.
A drummer in my high School . Was telling everybody about this great band playing in the city ! It was Gentle Giant! They were so good I never missed them after that when they came to the city ! Thank You Mike Boluche!
I saw this on German TV when it first aired in 1974. Before that I had never heard of Gentle Giant. I watched the programme by accident. I was 14 years old. And I became a lifelong fan that day. I twas August 10th, 1974. Now I'm going on 64 - and have been a fan for 50 years. And will stay one until the day I die.
I missed them in their heyday, we lived in Scotland and all we got was Pop radio rubbish, we we're poisoned by British music tastes. Germany and all over Europe appreciated these bands a lot more.
It's a pity that the audio quality on this clip is so poor. I suspect it has been 'remastered', and not very well. The audio on the original video is much more natural sounding. This is over-modulated to the point of clipping.
50 years later this album still blows my head off. and i bought it the day it came out! i always play cogs for my students. i like to see their faces when they hear it... i will also add, i was lucky to see GG at least 20 times from 73-77. always mind blowing master musicianship. the only band i ever heard zappa say he liked back then was GG. he got it.
It’s one thing to do these songs in the studio, but the fact that they were able to recreate it so well in a live performance makes all the difference. I love how the bass and guitar work are a bit more prominent in this version than the recording.
I almost lost my mind when I started listening to Travis Scott's new album and the first thing I heard was Gentle Giant! Great live performance and great song!
Power & The Glory is a great album by these guys. A good accidental discovery decades ago. Saw them at Dodger stadium in the late 70's, they opened for Yes and Peter Frampton. Would love to live that day over again!
What a huge lift in my day when I saw this pop up in my feed. Such an incredible band and an extraordinary time. These guys mashed more genres and sounds into the same track than anyone and it always sounded great. Fresh. Riveting. Songs that rolled around and around in my head for days upon days. The absolute best.
I love this band their awesome musicality and bravery - as a side note I loved the way in this live footage they frequently look like they are chewing wasps!
I begged my 3 elder brothers to take me to the Gentle Giant concert. So they, plus some friends, managed to make it happen. I tell you its hard to impress chicks you were to a Gentle Giant concert when your 8.
I'm a "chick" (or I was Way Back When). I've loved GG since the '70s. That you begged your brothers to take you to a GG concert at age 8 impresses me greatly!
The way this transitions into 'Funny ways' is absolutely dreamy.. I always wished Kerry did that 'bumblebee' sort of keyboard section at around 2:45 in a live show just like its done in the studio version. This song is one of my all time favorites by the Giants !
Their albums are all spectacular! Listen to them over and over and the genius comes out. I discovered them when I was around 18. Have been listening to their catalog ever since. I am 69 now. Brilliant once in a lifetime band! I was fortunate to see them 3 times!
Wow, much cleaner image than the other version of this show floating on TH-cam! What a great band… and I just discovered them 5 or 6 years after they disbanded!
@patricebrousseau: At least you discovered 'em! Think of all the unfortunates who will go thru entire lives never hearing and appreciating this magnificent music!
I love it!! I just wish that the people who worked the cameras in the '70's weren't such idiots. They always used almost only close ups of the musicians instead of backing the camera up so you could see the whole show. These guys were such amazing musicians, I want to see them play! But, still a great video!
That’s funny and true. I think the worst I have seen is of vintage Yes in a bbc studio possibly. Anyway the camera man “got creative”. He might have been on something. The camera starts zooming in and out at a dizzying pace. Disturbing to the senses.
Who is my favorite guitarist? Ray Shulman. Who is my favorite violin player? Ray Shulman. Who is my favorite bassist? Ray Shulman. Who is my favorite flute player? Ray Shulman. Who is my favorite trumpet player? Ray Shulman. By the way, who is my favorite prog musician? Ray Shulman! RIP Ray forever what a genius!!!
Absolutely agree with with what you have said about ray a gazillion% he was my ultimate favorite epic legendary genius hero multi instrumentalist in all of music from the greatest band that ever is and ever was.You did however leave out one major observance or question and that is who is my favorite composer? Answer a tie between ray shulman and kerry minnear.
I'm glad you can be exposed to this classic group through a new artist. I like Travis but try to sink your teeth into this group. The 70's are coming back
@criminallivesmattersblmYou understand samples need to be cleared right? If anyone who owns the rights to Gentle Giant, (including the remaining members) thought Travis Scott had no talent they could’ve just revoked it’s use but no they didn’t. You’re white-nighting (pun not intended) for no reason. It’s always the uncreative losers who’ve never picked up a guitar in their life with all these opinions of what’s real music and what’s not real music when a REAL musician knows every genre has its strengths and every genre has its place. If you think Travis is so bad how about you make your OWN music or shut the fuck up about it.
I'm so glad that they are now so comfortable with their legacy. Such an amazing band, they deserve the recognition they now have.

Sauf qu'entre-temps, Ray Shulman nous a quitté 😢. Une immense perte pour la musique.

One of the few chosen lucky guys in the mankind, like me - to appreciate Gentle Giant since the start, in my case 1972.
I missed them in their heyday, we lived in Scotland and all we got was Pop radio rubbish, we we're poisoned by British music tastes. Germany and all over Europe appreciated these bands a lot more.
But you had Alex Harvey!! So you were lucky. I only got to see SAHB a couple of times. I’m in Vancouver Canada
This is the most heavy-duty prog rock there is
Always nice to see Giant in good quality

They were always good quality, except for the last three albums. ;)

the seventies was a great decade for music, like this.
I love this piece and this performance.

A classic among so many.

i watched this live film so much
Ah back in the days of old valve amps , and Ray's killer bass sound love it .
Every musician made his part with taste and perfection. Those were glorious years. Love GG
So much energy, love it!!
I almost lost my mind when I started listening to Travis Scott's new album and the first thing I heard was Gentle Giant! Great live performance and great song!
Cool rhythm + everything
Bloody marvellous and the sound quality of this is superb!

slightly different live version. Great performance !

Perfectly stated! Even after all these years, they sound fresh, riveting!
I love this band their awesome musicality and bravery - as a side note I loved the way in this live footage they frequently look like they are chewing wasps!

Thank you Bruno for your work on this video.
I begged my 3 elder brothers to take me to the Gentle Giant concert. So they, plus some friends, managed to make it happen. I tell you its hard to impress chicks you were to a Gentle Giant concert when your 8.
It's hard to impress chicks with Gentle Giant at any age!🤣

My ex turned me on to them in 2011. He's since passed away, but I will always love him for this music.

I've been watching this clip many times but it is the best audio video I've ever watch. Thank GG.
One of the greatest bands ever!
I only discovered GG last year, Power and the Glory flew up to one of my all time favourite albums in a matter of days - its spectacular
Better late than never.

Brilliant once in a lifetime band! I was fortunate to see them 3 times!
And 50 years from now it will still sound fresh. Nothing else like it. Them I mean.
Refreshing!
The guy who turned me on to them was at a Black Sabbath show where they opened lol. They changed our lives
Haha so your friend saw how they were (very likely) booed off stage.
@@jdmresearch sort of lol
Thanks for this. Stunning! It is 50 years since this was recorded and it's still masterful and fresh. Gentle Giant forever.

Гіганти прог-року!
Цей чудовий гурт, не усім зрозумілий, але ті, хто відкрив його для себе, потрапляють у чарівний світ казкової музики. 👍
Це точно!

Show how they play.... Show me don't tell me
Getting strong Mick Fleetwood meets Phil Collins vibes from the drummer. Great performance though.
