Thank you so much for sharing this video! I grew up in Wichita and Joyland holds nothing but a ton of great memories. This was such a blast to come across today!
thanks, I lived in Wichita for a while like 30 years ago and I loved Joyland, great to see again, sad what happened to it. It is a bit strange watching someone else's home movies but I enjoyed it all the same.
Can you believe when I lived in the Wichita in the mid 1960's when my Dad was stationed in the Air Force at McConnell AFB my family and I visited Joyland. I was 10 years old and remember it vividly.
Oh man yes! Joyland has inspired me to pursue a career in mechanical engineering and design thrilling rides in order for people to be able to relieve the past of awesome rides!
Happy Birthday to such a sweet & happy looking child. Thank you for posting. This made me smile. My aunt, mom, cousin, & I (all deceased other than myself) used to go here all the time...mom/aunt took us as kids & thru your video I relive my own happy memories.
I hope so too. But the people in the Wichita Area need to want it also. I am with the non-profit organization trying to restore it (Since I am a big theme park junkie and I am currently going to school to get a degree in Engineering just for this). All in all I don't think that Wichitans want it back, if so location needs to be changed or at the least better fence and 24hr surveillance. The park should be moved though, the place smells like crap because of the sewage treatment facility.
Nothing the city does could ever compare to the awesomeness of Joyland! look at how Wild West World was a complete failure! The city is trying so hard and spending so much money but only because it lines the pockets of those passing the deals. I feel so lucky having went to Joyland for school nights and with family many many times growing up in the early 80s. Thanks for sharing this awesome video.
Thank you for sharing your fun at Joyland with everybody. I grew up going there every summer and enjoyed it with friends and family up to its sad sad end. Wichita stinks for not helping Joyland stay and thrive. Selfish city / gov . It was close by without costly travel and parents with little to no time to go far were able to have fun with their kids and make memories. Again Thank You 🚂
That's really cool, I hope that's going well for you :) I wish the restoration project was going faster than it is, but it's hard for a lot of people to give money these days
I loved Joyland, it was a awesome place, so many memories there. Now it is completely gone, so far gone it can't be salvaged, and I'm not even sure today's youth would even enjoy it, with there heads in there smart phones!
The happiest being in all existence, has the least amount of responsibilities, and has lived this way for the longest time. That's how the bathrooms in my house have quiet flush electric toilets. Heaven = Have Fun... Craig :)
It's a shame, one could 'easily' re-build this place, save for the major expenses :(. Sure all the expenses COULD (if the place picked up again) be made, but having the resources beforehand and management skills is the tough one.
A lot of the park has been destroyed or sold off. Memorable rides like the carousel is at botanica and some other rides are at fair grounds in Minneapolis Kansas.
Aleck Maccarone It is very eerie. I would love someone to stitch this video together with a run though of it broken down to see the massive difference.

ThatGirl GoLightly Not a problem I love reading personal stories about the park and though I would share mine!
Ty for sharing. I grew up in western KS along 54. Was there as a kid a time or two.
kcphaid Me too!
Coach Hull?
Ahhh nice... more videos of the Mammoth!(the Wurlitzer organ that had a clown on it that played for the carousel)
happy birthday!
some of the things they had by 1997 they did not have when I was a kid

762bigt The Youth love amusement parks! I am one of them haha. The Roller Coaster and Log Jam are still salvageable, but will need heavy restoration.

I have seen the videos of what is left of Joyland, there is not much left to restore, you might as well build a new park!
I agree! The placement of Joyland is terrible.
this was uploaded on my birthday!

Hey!! this is very rare footage. would you mind maybe a 30 second segmant of this be used for a project that I am working on?
Tu' VENT No problem man! Just mention my youtube channel/name in the project!

spent a lot of time here😹😹😹😹 i miss it a lot 😹😹😹😻😻😻
Thanks for posting this! It makes me sad!
Is there anything left or is it all destroyed?
A lot of the park has been destroyed or sold off. Memorable rides like the carousel is at botanica and some other rides are at fair grounds in Minneapolis Kansas.
damn good times for sure....
I loved this, thank you ! :)
All gone now. I was therde in the early 50's
How much money would it take to rebuilt all of this?
taylorswizzzle Wow! Taylor Swift! haha. It would take in the neighborhood of $10 million to restore the park to its original glory.
I love Taylor :P That's a LOT of money. No wonder it's so difficult to restore it.
This was filmed on August 9, 1997.
Filmed on my 36th birthday. 32 years prior ( to the day) I was enjoying my birthday AT Joyland
It closed down :(
I rode my first roller coaster there.
I did too in 1966.
Someone burned down the whacky shack today at 4:30 am, 8-9-18
Where is Dalton now? Prison? Oh, wait, you are Dalton. Ha! Nice video!
I just visited this place not to long ago, its a ghost land
it's closed :(
Its abandoned, not closed.. You can go and see it actually
THE COPS WILL COME AND U WILL GET IN BIG TRUBLE
crazy bug No they cant, its not private property anymore, the land is still free.
TheElectricBone It is actually private property owned by Margret Nelson, who's daughter is my neighbor!
DaltonEFX wow really? though the land was free, so the people getting in there can get arrested? didn't know that
It's weird seeing it all lively and then watching another video where it is shutdown
Aleck Maccarone It is very eerie. I would love someone to stitch this video together with a run though of it broken down to see the massive difference.
Fun
