I’m thinking about buying the Sigma 24mm, f3.5. While I will agree on the onset the f3.5 aperture doesn’t seem remarkable, but for how I shoot in stopping down my larger capacity aperture Sony, 24mm, f1.4, G Master lens, it makes good sense. For street and landscapes in day shooting, I go f8 on my 24mm, f1.4 to maximize sharp focus, contrast, and colors on everything in the frame. When shooting into the sun, I’m going f16 to get the sun stars. For groups of people, I go f4-5.6 to make sure every face is in focus. I use f1.4 for low light/night shooting or when I want bokeh, and it is terrific at that. Physics will not be on the Sigma, 24mm, f3.5’s side in being a “go to” in low light/night but it has a lot going for it. The sharpness it offers across it’s aperture range, compact size, macro capabilities, minimal/no barrel distortion, and the warm color cast has really got me considering spending my money on it!
Hey, buddy. I have a strange problem with the sigma 24 f2 lens on my sigma fp camera. The thing is that I can't turn off the aperture repeater in photo mode. The lens in this photo mode, makes the aperture open a hundred percent and keeps this position until you press the shutter release. Because of this, I can not evaluate the frame and depth of field. Can you tell me what the problem is and how to return the aperture closing.
I can't decide between 35mm f/2 or f/1.4 I plan to mostly use it while walking around but I like to take photos at night. Do I want to carry the really heavy lens though. This video is old but any advice?
Assuming you're shooting with a current Sony or Panasonic body, there isn't much difference between these lenses in terms of operation at night. f2 isn't far from f1.4 when you have stabilization and good high ISO performance. What makes a difference is if you want that razor thin focus area of f1.4, and the extra soft background blur. What is the heaviest lens you can carry on a walkaround shoot? Do you comfortably use larger zooms like a 24-70 or 24-105? If so, the Sigma 35mm f1.4 is fine.
Is there any possibility to get the Lightroom segments in the camera/lens reviews in 4k too? Would love to see the details better. Otherwise perfect review!
So glad you reviewed the 24mm on the Sigma fp. Could you can use this as a vlogging camera and webcam for Zoom meetings? I have the 45mm f2.8 and my face is too close even if I put it at the edge of my desk.
Honestly vlogging is tricky unless you manual focus it and stop down. 24mm is a tad close for vlogging in my opinion. Perhaps 20mm or 22mm is better. 18 is also preferred
Love your reviews, I have the SL2-S bought the 50 APO sent it back and got the lumix 50 1.4 and I’m happy! That said can you please review the 65-85 sigma lenses vs the 90 F2 by Leica thank you for the great work.
Thanks Dwayne! From my experience the 65 is fantastic and from my tests and others we found it on par with the 50 f2 in terms of performance. To the point it was a bit too surprising. The 85 I would need to test next to a 90 if I get the chance. I don’t always have the opportunity to get Leica lenses all the time. Depends on availability
Great video, According to your experience for street-photography using Sigma fp camera which objective do you prefer considering the quality of the images between the Sigma 35 mm f 2 and the Sigma 24 mm f 3.5 as the only carrying optics? Maybe considering also the use as videomaker. Thanks
Thanks. I’m not sure I understand your question entirely, but I liked the 35 for street more. The 24 is an interesting focal length but for me the 35 was my preference
Great review of complementary lenses I own both the APO 35 and sigma f/2 and f/1.2 The APO is an APO and I’m still looking after defaults 😊 in vain It’s super I agree the sigma f/2 is superb at a fraction of the price but yeah… it’s not as fantastic The 1.2 brings impressive artistic perspective with a pleasing bokeh as a Summilux 50 1.4 Thought the transition is a bit hard. Regarding the 24 I’m interested in your thoughts about the f2 vs the f3.5 in terms of distortion mainly.
But if the last 10% of 35APO is what you are after, then the Sigma I series just can't provide. It is like saying $100 pair of headphones sound quality is 80% of the other $1000 pair of headphones, for people have grown out of the low end headphone, that simply means not good enough. Having said that, I think the Sigma I series is a lot closer in image quality to 35APO L than 90%, more like 96%+. But again, how to quantify the last 4% is still debatable.
@@Chris-ey7zy This isn't the case for lens performance. A lens that is 95% the image quality of another is going to be a fine substitute for when you don't want to pay 10x the price.
@@raksh9well said! I’ll add, the 10% quality difference may not be distinguishable to all (can’t see the value), and/or if it is (and meaningful) they aren’t willing to or can’t pay more for the marginal enhancement, (diminishing returns).
I'm so glad you did this review. Especially with the sigma fp! But I am realizing unfortunately that I'm not in love with any of these focal lengths. More of a 28, 40/45, & 85mm type of guy. Really never loved the 35. Have learned very recently that I don't like the 24 much at all. Especially for street. Feels generic or something. Like a smartphone. To me, 28mm is perfection. I have owned the 45mm 2.8 (with my sigma fp that I later returned) and that was an outstanding lens. But I don't honestly see myself paying that amount for any of these other lenses sadly, because I LOVE the concept behind these smaller rugged lenses. I hope they eventually make a small 28mmf2 and an 85 f2 or even 1.8! In the meantime however I'll stick with my sony 28mmf2 and am about to pick up the Sony 85mm 1.8. (For my sony a7c) And eventually might sneak the sigma 45mm 2.8 in there to complete my three bears. In the meantime, thanks again for showing me/us what that tiny 24mm looks like on the sigma fp! What an amazing compact little combo!
Still don´t get the "I series"! Sigma needs to do some explaining cause people are confused! Or just drop it! Nobody get´s the "I series". Or explain it better..... SIGMA.....

Great review thanks. Not enough FP content on TH-cam 👍🏻
Thanks for watching
Nice video, Bobby. Like the photo edits
Thanks. Much appreciated!

Question 🙋🏾. What was that handgrip you have on the sigma FP? 👀

The sigma 35 or Voigtlander 35 APO?

@@TECH360TV Thanks for replying. Yes, got to go manual focus with the Sigma fp. Voigtländer 21mm it is then. :)
Does the EXIF info carry into Lightroom correctly? Thanks.
Good review!! I share your experience on the Sigma i series 👍🏼

Let's do a one on one shoot out with the Leica 35mm f2 APO to quantify what 80 - 90% really meant.
Sounds good. Let’s do it :)
lol 😂 would love to see this battle
