Dublin, Ireland, Easter 1916. Seven men sign the Proclamation of the Irish Republic and kick off the Easter Rising, a famous rebellion against British rule. Over two hundred women fought or served with the rebel forces. Many of them were suffragettes and feminist activists and they made a powerful impact on the international campaign for women's rights. Presented by award-winning actress Fiona Shaw, this documentary reveals the extraordinary stories of Seven Women of the Easter Rising.
As someone born and educated in england I didn't know anything about the Easter rising or any other Irish history until I spent a couple of years living in Eire. Even what cromwell did was news to me. I feel it's a great shame pupils are not taught about this in uk schools, we deserve to know.
I was born in Parkhead Glasgow Scotland 🏴 to an Irish ☘️ mother & went to a catholic school most kids we’re of Irish parents G parents & great grandparents & we we’re taught about the EASTER REBELLION. Mind u to be fair the Irish ☘️ was always in us .
You'r right, Jonny, and I'm not even sure the history is taught in Irish schools these days, let alone in the U.K; too busy indoctrinating young children with all that woke shite. Hope you had a nice stay in Ireland and you'r always welcome.
Public Hospitals, Schools even main city streets should bear the names of these women and others that gave their lives for Irish freedom. These should be the heroes of every Irish female yet we barely know their names. I feel very blessed to have been able to go to a school on King's Inn Street and to have passed by the GPO on a daily basis for all of my school years knowing so well that Irish women and men gave their lives in the same streets. For ever grateful to their courage. May they all rest in light, power and peace.
Margeret Skinnard was born in LIITLE Ireland 🇮🇪 here in Coatbridge Scotland 🏴 & she’s rather famous & the SEIN FIEN office in Coatbridge has a lot on her .
Fiona Shaw star in Star Wars Andor as Maarva Carassi Andor, her character recorded a speech for her funeral that inspired her fellow residents of Ferrix to fight the Empire.
the missed opportunity of Irish independence was that the Irish people never experienced freedom and instead spent decades under the boot of the Catholic church and an authoritarian state
so what is the real telling of this particular time of history in your opinion? How about actually expressing a coherent thought instead of throwing out a random statement that says absolutely duck all?
@@grhinsondo you have any idea how history works for women? They had to prove that they ‘were as valuable as men were’. at the time. That’s why! We’re literally still having to do that over a hundred years later.
Ireland has a deep and divided history. I understand the Catholics want to be free. However, having shot soldiers, who were just doing their job - poor men fighting a rich man's war. The rebels wanted their wounded to be treated in hospital. Once you have murdered someone in cold blood you have lost all rights

This story needs to be more widely told, especially in studies of great revolutionary histories of the world.

And now the EUSSR.

God bless the 1916 rising ❤
Huge injustice, towards the women who stood up and participated.
The irish men were ultimately no better than their English counterparts 😢
Disagree on the last bit not all men were like that
RIP to every one of those Irish ☘️ that got of their knees especially the women.
Gael is very important ❤
Remember England had signs “NoBlacksNoIrishNoDogsAllowed”
More compassion than Margaret Thatcher ❤
Could you put the title of Croatian language please????You give very interesting video but I dont understand????
None of the Irish struggles were taught in American public schools. Zero.
Not much is taught about the Irish or Irish Scots in the American Revolutionary wars either in US schools or media.
FREE NORTHERN IRELAND!!!!!
Agree

Lies. They were never forgotten. 🇮🇪☘️
@@thequietman760 Outside of Ireland I don’t think many were/are aware of this.
Why do they want to always compare themselves to men. They are 7 individuals that happen to be women.
Because it was men that took their role in Irish history out of it
@@niallkelly2990 Every individual makes their own decisions. Sex has nothing to do with it.
