Evelyn from the mummy was so ingrained in me as the perfect character to the perfect male lead of Rick, that we named our daughter Evelyn. My husband shares the same love for the character and the mummy movies and also the name. Our daughter is now 9 and also loves the movie. She loved it when we told her we named her after the character.
Awesome to hear :) I have a friend called Evie and she hadn't heard of the film, so I showed her the library scene to be like "this is what I think of when I hear your name"
Love shailene in the divergent series she's amazing as tris prior I'm also a fan of the books 💗 I absolutely love tris and fours relationship theo and shailene have great chemistry
It appears we are very much on the same wavelength when it comes to our love of flawed, but interesting female characters. You've introduced me to a few new ones I can potentially check out in the future.
I adored Evy as kid. You missed Karen from Blade (hot, a doctor, and helps save Blade, and I was so impressed by a platonic relationship on screen). Also Kida from Atlantis and Chél from El Dorado. The Girls from Charlie’s Angels 2001 (so giggly, fashionable, badass and they were the epitome of girl power)
A lot of Alfred hitchcock movies have great female protagonists. Notorious, shadow of a doubt, rear window, vertigo, rebecca and more are a few. Really well done video
I wish they would just remake ikwydls and fix some of the story decisions bc there was a lot of missed potential not just with Helen character but in general there a few thing they could’ve expanded on plus yes Helen character Helen death ruins the story for people.
What an awesome list! I've never seen films 1 to 6, but you've piqued my interest. Films 7 to 11 I 100% agree with and Evy was one of the very first strong, complex women I saw on screen when I was a kid, I was/ still am obsessed! It's really frustrating to see Hollywood's watered down version of a "Strong Female Character" because it's doing more harm than good. Basically, a women can't be tough and confident and also be flawed.
@@crystalkelly9349 Hopefully it'll change with more female directors and filmmakers coming up, since those kinds of characters tend to be written by men trying not to be sexist
Francesca and the Mask of Red Death are both a hevy influence for Red Riding Hood (2011) protagonist and "who is the wolf arc" respectively!! .....well l guess so rs
Such a great list small soldiers, being part of it had me laughing. When I was living in LA I went on a few dates with this guy that would only communicate with me over kik and was super paranoid ab anyone coming to his house he always wanted to come to mine. He loved to foreshadow that he was related to someone famous and I was like yeah so is 70% of this town 😂 when I lost interest, and stopped responding to him out of nowhere. He was like my uncle was the military guy in small soldiers I’m afraid of being used for my proximity to fame 🤣 I didn’t respond I was laughing too hard
I'd add at least two more to this lovely list: Katharine Hepburn's Rose Sayer from "The African Queen" (The book is a good read, too); and Natalie Wood's Maggie DuBois in 'The Great Race". Both fun, intelligent, driven, active characters, and both in fun, intelligent, well done movies. Plus, in "The Great Race", you get to see Jack Lemmon be hilarious alongside Peter Falk; and in "African Queen", you get to see Humphrey Bogart have tremendous fun.
Great choice. Though, I MUST defend Katie Scarlett O'hara, she did what she had to do & saved a lot of people. The fact she was infatuated with Ashley Wilks, just makes her like a good many other women down the ages. Loxie was very similar. The constraints of the times on women are more apparent in the book Gone with the Wind.
Aha I was mostly just referring to her habit of slapping people when they won't do what she wants. She smacks Ashley when he tells her he's marrying Melanie after all. She is a wonderfully complicated character though, and Vivien Leigh's performance does stand the test of time.
@@BetterWithBob they ask for it! Think of her sisters, as for Ashley, I genuinely believe he is more than a little to blame, I think he liked the attention!
@@BetterWithBobI'm not sure I can sign on to Elizabeth Swann as underappreciated either. MAYBE given the entirety of the PotC franchise? But seems like everybody loves Keira Knightley, specifically as Liz Swann (if you ask anybody which role is Keira's best, I'm guessing 99% will say Swann in PotC or the chick in Pride and Prejudice), and I've never heard even those most negative on the PotC franchise not add the caveat that the first holds up and is extremely fun.
Addendum: "can we get some love for Anamarie?" Yeah, if they really wanted to "reboot" the franchise, wouldn't you do it by building around Thandie Newton? Besides, she could use a successful franchise.

Elena from The Mask of Zorro? I cannot get her & Zorro's sword fight out of my head.
Ah wonderful. I must give that movie a rewatch
And their dance scene is fire too!
I think Evy was my first girl crush when I was a kid. I don't watch enough old movies I'll have to watch some of the first couple recommendations.
Daughter of Shanghai I think has a DVD release now, and Reap the Wild Wind is up here fully, really good quality :)

Never saw Blade and I only recently saw Charlie's Angels for the first time 🙈
@@BetterWithBobi highly recommend Blade. It’s so much fun, and 90s as hell. The Matrix actually took a lot of inspiration from it

I always liked Melanie Daniels myself 🙂

Sarah Michelle gellar was great in I know what you did last summer she's a brilliant actress she was great as kendall in all my children
Ironically her best work in the Buffyverse for me was in an Angel episode lol
The Love Love the The Mummy and The Mummy Returns!
I also think the two main women in Lord of the Rings are fantastic...all 3 of those films are gold.

Or be interesting. Or have any sort of character growth. Because where do you grow to when you're already portrayed as a perfect being.

Cutthroat island, Ultraviolet and Alita Battle Angel should have been on this list
Ultraviolet...now there's a film I haven't thought of in a while 😅
Evy Carnahan is hands down the most underrated Heroine of the past 20 years.
I really enjoyed Elizabeth swan kiera Knightley was great in the role the first movie is the best in the franchise

He totally lead her on. "I love you but we cant be together because im married" such a tease
“It’s a baton death march!” That’s a good line
A bit dark but a good one for sure 😂
If I could expand this list to France, I'd add Angelique de Pissaloup from the French series of movies "Comtesse Angelique" from the late 60's.
My two favorite female characters are Anne Shirly [Magen Follows ] and Jo March Whinona Ryder.
Aha excellent choices
Evie from "The Mummy" cannot be on this list; you can't deserve "way more love" than all the love. Everybody loves Evie, what are you talking about?
I stand corrected 😂

Thanks for this. I watched Daughter of Shanghai on the back of it.
I would also add Lee Remick in Experiment in Terror to the list.
ooh interesting. I'm not familiar with that one.

Buffy Summers in the show and Hermione Granger.

Helen Shivers should've been the Final Girl. Julie was nothing special!
I have a video on the way about that very subject lol
