True, but he didn’t use the Mindflayer’s nastier abilities, and I suspect he wanted to point out to the heroes that they should maybe not taunt enemies so much if they want to survive in future, hehe. The campaign book he is using suggests the mind flayer was trying to use Dominate Monster but not attack outright. :)

Plot twist- steve is actually the "half orc" that killed stephanos' family. He was wearing a disguise and killed them in a red wedding sort of situation
