The simple fact that you do not disable comments certainly sets you apart from other TH-cam prospecting channels. Love the simple honesty and humbleness. I hope you can make many many many more videos.
I found over a hundred and fifty bottles in a deep outhouse in my back yard. The ground was flat and you couldn't tell it was there. These bottles were very old and some are worth a lot of money. we found a lot of interesting stuff .A whole chamber pot, opium pipes and lots more. We still have them. Our home is in Nevada City. I enjoy your program. Good luck
nothing ventured nothing gained I'm sitting here in a little RV and it's snowing outside about to foot thank you so much for the video I wish I could be out there looking for stuff too!
Dude, you are the best. So good at explaining and showing the best techniques and you are concise. You don't waste time and I feel like I can definitely find gold now! Very enjoyable learning from you. Thank you.
I had a doctor tell me I'm blind and I have vertigo so I couldn't do what you do and I love watching you keep it up old man Old timer you make me feel good about getting older I'll be 69 next month you know October 12th real Columbus Day
my dad always recommended looking for old bottle dumps; with the theory that was where the old timers used to drink & it wasn't uncommon for them to drop a prized nugget or two while blind drunk.
Beautifull place for detecting. I hope you always stay whith your good pacience for teaching us about your experience and now out. Is always nice to see yours vídeos. We always learn something. Lots of sucess for your channel and adventures. Congratulations. See you.
Now I gotta tell ya- I just love detecting these old mining sites for old Relics and such, as well as getting out in the open wild country and! " look", I just found me a nice chunk "o "Gold!!!
You deserve your own show on tv! You know everything and I've learned so much from you sir. Maybe one day if I'm a pro like you we can team up for a day! Thanks for all the teachings! I'm about to start soon once my Garrett ace 250 metal detector comes in the mail. I'm out here in northwest Oregon.
We were all new at one point. If you can, keep notes on your trips out. Log down where you went, type of ground, what you used (detector, sluice, pan, etc.), and how much gold you got. After a while you will notice a pattern on the best way to find gold in your area. Good luck and have fun! Thanks - Gary
We have been looking at OLD OLD maps with the camp sites, I have an idea of where we want to go. California still has lots of history to uncover I’m sure of it.
Very nice! Now we are getting into it, that one large nugget that kind of look like a Boomarang was really a nice looking piece. Just as a suggestion, when it gets hot out there why don't you take your baseball cap and soak it in the river to cool your head, and you can also take your shirt and soak it to cool you down, That's what I do and it works great. Keep up the great job I kind a wish I was you, thanks again
Hello Gary enjoy the information and learning. I just found your informative and informational video's was look for finding gold with a metal detectors and woo hoo so more then that. Awesome job and greetings from Montana
Would you mind commenting about what features you consider to be the most important for buying a metal detector? We are just starting out. Thanks for your videos. They are informative.
If your getting a detector for finding gold, the most important feature - it has to be able to handle very mineralized soil. You will be trying to find the hardest target in the worse conditions when looking for gold. Try to find out what the other miners in your area are using. Then do what most people don't do - take the time to learn how to run the detector. Good luck and thanks - Gary
It's archaeology. peoples history. Interesting tool, you could maybe use a trowel too. Do you make notes of your finds and any thoughts about the folk who were there and their lifestyle. Interesting video man. UK here. thanks
I try to keep a log and I draw a map of the sites I dig. Mainly for three reasons; 1- So I can return to the site years later and I have an idea where it is, and where I have already worked. 2 - When someone wants more information about a item I have found, I am able to refer to my notes. 3 - If I am reading the history of an area or someone is requesting information about the history, I have my notes to refer to, it makes the history come alive. Thanks - Gary
A Sasquatch is standing in the background at 17:00 out past the two trees that make a “V”. Judging by how still he is standing, he must mesmerized by Gary’s treasure hunting skills, not unlike myself I must say.
The only other reason I can see for a camp up there, from way back then, would be a moonshine operation. I think that's definitely a miner's camp, or rather was.
Great video Gary. would have loved to see the nugget detecting too. Lots of great pointers and tips. Thanks. I noticed you are running a TDI rather than an MXT. Any particular reason why? I understand for depth, bit your site was all shallow. enlighten me please? Also no hand held pinpointer?
I don't use the hand held because I have a bad habit of walking off and leaving them right were I set them down. I was spending to much time going back a getting it. I took my TDI because I was hoping to get to do a little nugget hunting on the same trip. I have 2 nugget hunting videos in the works now. One is in Nevada and I am shooting one right now on bench hunting ( river is still to high). Thank you for the support !
I keep hearing stories of the old Chinese miners hanging on to their platinum and stashing it away. It wasn't valued before the 1880's and was thought of as junk. This is exactly what I want to do, find old camps and search around for these caches of platinum left behind.
Another great vid Gary thanks for showing the process you go through. I learn something with every vid, now to add a magnate to my rake, how do you deal with the poison oak.
When I get home, the first thing I do is put everything I was wearing in the wash. Then I scrub my hands, arms, and face with dish soap. Then I jump in the shower with the dish soap, and wash down one more time. This works very good for me. If I end up with any, its only a small bump or two. Thank - Gary
A video about poisonous plants in the mountains would be cool. Edible berries, mushrooms and such as well. I have never got poison ivy or oak, so I not sure what it looks like.
Allot depends on the type of ground you have. If it is very mineralized - go for the pulse machines. If its normal gold bearing area, a VLF machine works great. I found a lot of gold with my old Goldmaster 3. Thanks for the support.
Two Toes. I found something that I can't figure out what it was for. At Powellton. Maybe you know what it was used for. Some time I'll tell you some of what I've found. Donated to the gold nugget musuem.
I am a big supporter of the local museum. When you donate a find to the museum it allows everyone to enjoy it and learn about the history. Keep up the good work! Thanks - Gary
Thanx for all your hard work and advice... Your inspiring this ole' timer!!! ;-) Watch for stone tools when you root around any palm sized rocks that maybe around from stone aged and early Indian artifacts, just sayin' it's a good idea bro!!! Happy trails!!!
What I notice in Chinese camps, is that alot hid gold in bottles in and under trees. At least in mariposa. Not done much detecting north way. The tertiary gravel is pretty productive up there
I was using a Whites TDI, not the best detector for relic hunting. I brought it because I was hoping to do some nugget hunting later in the day, but I didn't get to because the river was to high. Thank - Gary
Dont touch graveyard or grave bar.....use grove.....a lot of bacteria your eye cant located.....the hygiene u know more than me......this field not explain too much.....thanks for sharing.....

read your scanners instructions better ,cause my one clearly tells you how to determine ferris metals and none ferris metals, i noticed when after i understood how to deturmin the difference the none ferris metals such as gold the scanner a anulogue one only pointed in the none ferris direction very few times,,,, so i think it is important to know how to read scanners so we do not waste time
been watching u for a long time now, I need a metal detetor and i do not want a piee of junk. One htat is water submersible. Like a garett at pro or less, without that pirce tag. I have notied on some of your showa u have a sell house. Do have a piece of equip. that a porr rundown out of gas. old fart could afford? Does hnot have to be new.....Something that is not out gas like I am, and not over 300. to 400. bucks tops? Open to suggestions. I live in SA,Tx. get to me when u can. Too many spinal surgeris and a triple by pass 3.4 yrs. ago. Just now where i can again get out and do something besides watching vds. on the net.......Help if u can....Thanks Doc.......
The cost of having a store in California got to the point where I was doing all the work and the state was getting all the money. I closed down the store and only sell online now. I sold out my stock of detectors. All I have left is the ones I use. Sorry - not much help. Thanks - Gary
Gary: A word of warning, unless you are digging for bottles, etc. on private lands you probably are in violation of the Archaeological Resource Protection Act of 1979. It has very stiff fines and jail time (look at Sec 6a. and 6d). They define protected resources as anything being more than 100 years old. I really like you videos, but I'm not sure you want to be posting this type of video. Best Regards
Most all of the sites I look for old bottles on, are private land. I'm not sure why, but when I do research for old sites to dig, most of the time they end up on private land. In all the years I have been doing this, I have only been turned down once when asking permission to dig. Thanks - Gary
i watched about 5 of your videos, really enjoyed them and it's great to see a genuine bloke like yourself giving honest advice.
The simple fact that you do not disable comments certainly sets you apart from other TH-cam prospecting channels. Love the simple honesty and humbleness. I hope you can make many many many more videos.

Me having a bad hip, not being able to hike far I sure like your videos. Taking me with you is greatly appreciated.
I love everything about this guy.

As cool as all that old trash is, man I love those gold videos you put up. I could watch those all day. I have learned tons from you. Thanks a lot.
I have 2 gold ones in the works. Thanks for the encouragement! Glad you like them. Thanks - Gary
Dude, you are the best. So good at explaining and showing the best techniques and you are concise. You don't waste time and I feel like I can definitely find gold now! Very enjoyable learning from you. Thank you.

Just started watching your videos, finding them very informative and interesting. Thanks for producing them.
I do some woodworking and I can tell you for sure that buying new square nails is expensive... great video. Thanks.

Thanks Two Toes! Keep em Coming! Hope ur well.
Thank you!
Great videos, watch out for bear traps, always either carry a battery operated grinder or a bolt cutter. Or better yet snake gaurds. Have a great trip

great video! nice little bottle . looking forward to the next ones.
Thank you, working on a nugget hunting one right now.
I suspect the thin brass was the remainder of opium tins. Quite common to find in locations with Chinese coins.
I wish I was able to do what you do I love watching new videos old man and I say that in a good way loved watching you love you you take care man

So much poison oak.... and this guy gets right up in it often.... Very gutsy.
Anywhere gold is in California , you can guarantee its surrounded in poison oak. You stop getting it after like 20 times of being covered head to toe
A Sasquatch is standing in the background at 17:00 out past the two trees that make a “V”. Judging by how still he is standing, he must mesmerized by Gary’s treasure hunting skills, not unlike myself I must say.
I don’t see it
Thats probably just Jeff 😁
The only other reason I can see for a camp up there, from way back then, would be a moonshine operation. I think that's definitely a miner's camp, or rather was.
it would be cool to find a Moonshine Jug !!!!
Logging?
The soldered "tin cans" were used until the very early 1900s when it was discovered that the lead was poisonous.
Great video Gary. would have loved to see the nugget detecting too. Lots of great pointers and tips. Thanks.

All those barrel hoops, maybe an old moonshine camp. (LOL)
Мы тоже хотим копать золото!
Have a good day Gary! What do you think about TDI SL for gold nugget hunting? Or maybe GMT will be enought? A GPX's are so much expensive for me now.
Allot depends on the type of ground you have. If it is very mineralized - go for the pulse machines. If its normal gold bearing area, a VLF machine works great. I found a lot of gold with my old Goldmaster 3. Thanks for the support.
Hi Gary, You have taught me so much. Thanks for that. I have a question. What thickness of wet suit do you recommend?
I use a 6.5mm farmer john in the spring and late fall. During the summer when the water is warmer, I use a one piece 3mm suit. Thanks - Gary
In your 50 some years of hunting for gold how much would you say you collected..
Your the man, as you know!!!!! Thank you soooooooo much for the info!!!!!!!! Keep up the good fight👍!!!!!!!
I really love your videos and I would like to wish you the best in all your gold haunting hope you find gold nuggets in your gold haunting

HEY TWO TOES. WHERE DID YOU GET THAT 3 PRONG DIGGING TOOL? IT LOOKS LIKE YOU MADE IT FROM AN OLD RUBBER HANDLE TUBULAR HAMMER.
Your close! the handle is from a very cheep claw hammer. The prongs are from an old garden rake. Thanks - Gary
Great video.
We live on ex military property which was part of Camp White OR. My wife is afraid I will hit a land mine...
What I notice in Chinese camps, is that alot hid gold in bottles in and under trees. At least in mariposa. Not done much detecting north way. The tertiary gravel is pretty productive up there
What state is this it's beautiful place. Peaceful "" my kind of place. Thanks for vid.

I just got a drone...now I need to upgrade to a helicopter I guess =)
if you're lucky the sardines cans are full of gold.
I use gloves when I hunt mining sites...tons of bad stuff to stick you
A very good point! I wear them most of the time. Nothing can ruin your day like a nasty cut from broken glass. Thanks - Gary

No, way above my skill level.
Your old like me come on up to the caribou well show you gold . Bring a bug 2.

Will u to help or teach the poor students as u are free in your city ?
How much gold did you find in this location?
River was to high, didn't get a chance to look. I have found a few nice pieces around there in the past. Thanks - Gary
Looks like a lot of poison oak
There is a lot! I'm lucky, I don't get it very bad, maybe a spot or two.
That is a old Port wine bottle

I would die at this location. Just looking at all that poison oak is making me itch! No joke...I would end up in the hospital. Cool to watch though!
There are a few spots I go to, that the poison oak is very thick. Guess I'm lucky I don't get it very bad, a spot or two when I do.
😎👍
if u hear banjo music run !!!

I thought I found bigfoot already once, but he said, "his name is sasquatch and to get off his claim!"
owl3031 yep
