  • The Official Lyric video for “We Are Yours Forever" by Sovereign Grace Music.
It's a source of inexpressible amazement, joy, and awe that God provided a way for us to be forgiven by offering his Son as a sacrifice to pay for our sins. But the story doesn't end there. We've not only been forgiven - we've been adopted. We've are no longer enemies of God, under his wrath. He has made us his dearly loved children. That's why J.I. Packer has written, "To be right with God the Judge is a great thing, but to be loved and cared for by God the Father is a greater.” This song helps us celebrate that reality with unbridled joy.

    LYRICS
O God, when You spoke into darkness
And said, “Let there be,” and it was
You made us the crown of creation
    To share in Your love
And when we rejected Your goodness
    To follow our foolish desires
You knew that one day You’d redeem us
    Through one sacrifice
Oh, what a love You have lavished on us
To call us Your children, daughters and sons
One with the Savior, bought by His blood
    We are Yours forever
By grace You have made us Your family
We’re kept in Your kindness and care
With boldness we know we can bring You
    Each burden we bear
And though we are longing to see You
    Your Spirit within testifies
That we are adopted and treasured
    Til faith becomes sight
Oh, what a love You have lavished on us
To call us Your children, daughters and sons
One with the Savior, bought by His blood
    We are Yours forever
    What now can separate us
From the hope You gave us
We will be like Christ our King
    We are Yours forever
Oh, what a love You have lavished on us
To call us Your children, daughters and sons
One with the Savior, bought by His blood
    We are Yours forever

Why do we need all these ‘new’ songs about biblical theology when we already have a massive archive and treasury of hymns written to far better tunes than this one? I am not against modern ‘songs’ at all, as long as they are well written and have a decent singable tune. So many are written just to keep churning out new ones that can garner an income for the creator. The tunes of many are also unsuitable for congregational singing and are written - it seems to me, more for professional singers whose voices can negotiate all the twists and turns of the erratic lines that so many of these songs have. Congregations need more poetic and regular tunes and lines to sing, as are found in most of the ‘older’ hymns.

God’s spirit inspire new song to him throughout all of history. God wants new songs to be sung to him by every generation.
      Psalms 33:3 NKJV
Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy.
      Psalms 40:3 NKJV
He has put a new song in my mouth- Praise to our God; Many will see it and fear, And will trust in the Lord.
      Psalms 96:1-2 NKJV
Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! Sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, bless His name; Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.
      Psalms 149:1-3 NKJV
Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song, And His praise in the assembly of saints. Let Israel rejoice in their Maker; Let the children of Zion be joyful in their King. Let them praise His name with the dance; Let them sing praises to Him with the timbrel and harp.

Yes, but they should be well written ‘new songs’, this particular one that I am commenting on is very poor, as are many of the ‘new songs’.
Personally too, I don’t believe the quotes you mention actually encourage us to be constantly writing new songs all the time. I believe these quotes refer to aspects of God’s revelation and peoples coming to realise and believe in them, so for them they are ‘new’.
I am certainly not against new songs per se, we sing them in our church, and many of them are Sovereign ones. I’ll be absolutely honest here - this song is rubbish!

I could fully agree, if you had made this to hugely popular Bethel Music or Hillsong songs, but actually this channel and church, unlike those, stands on the true gospel and write songs based on biblical doctrines. I'm also a singer myself and I have a bit hard understanding you comment about modern songs generally favouring soloist on stage and not the congregation: Actually modern tunes are often dull and simplistic and so easily made, that anyone can sing along, while the classic hymns can be a bit more difficult, but also much more exciting to work with.

Yeah I agree that this is a weird song critique, the high is only a C, the tune is easy to follow, the lyrics are quality, is it just that it’s not as interesting or adventurous of a tune?
Another thing to consider about new songs as opposed to hymns is that we now can have songs written in the Verse, Chorus, Verse, Chorus, Bridge, Chorus x2 form that we rarely saw in the past.

I don't know about you but this to me has a simple yet beautiful tune and most of all - another beautiful way of retelling the wonderful truth of the wonder of being called children of God! The lines on this specific song brings other truths in relation to our being adopted that are not specifically incorporated in other songs like our union with Christ and our belongingness to Him.
In a more upbeat tempo, it encourages the celebration that we should have in this glorious truth.
Its overall melody isn't overly simplistic as to be almost monotone. Its chorus is beautiful tune that rightly calls for a celebration, yet not overly complicated as to be very difficult to sing along to or remember.
