I'm 58 and saw this on TV when I was a kid in 73 or 74... loved it then, but now, I literally choke up EVERY TIME I watch this clip because of the man's expression on his face... that reaction to their gift of music & true appreciation if it. Coming from a musical family myself, has all the more meaning. Music is a gift in and of itself ... they don't come wrapped up in a box ...
AXS TV is running "The Partridge Family" a few days a week now. I just finished watching this one & this part was cut out. I was disappointed, so I'm glad it's on TH-cam. Dean Jagger tearing up always makes me tear up. He does the same thing near the end of "White Christmas" & I tear up again. Wonderful actor.
It's not Christmas yet but I swear this scene is so beautiful and tear-jerking. The family came back to surprise Charlie, the happy tears in his eyes and the way they sing is so moving.
Love this, and it's even more poignant now that Suzanne Crough (Tracy) & David Cassidy (Keith) are no longer with us; RIP to them both (May God rest their souls) and thank you for the beautiful joyful memories xx
I remember watching this on TV & grabbing my Panasonic portable taperecorder I got for Christmas in 1974 & taping what I could off the TV speaker of this performance. (None if the cast were actually singing on this recording - they were a group of studio musicians at that time (maybe Shirley sang among them? but I tend to think this was recorded BEFORE David started singing lead vocals vs. lip-syncing to the real singers; Jackie Ward, John Bahler, Ron Hicklin, Tom Bahler.) It's still beautiful just the same - both the arrangement & vocally), and holds up to the test of time!
@@johnpaschold789 this is probably my favorite episode because of the way it was performed & that elderly man's tender appreciation of their gift of song through the tears in his eyes - it gets me every time I watch it.... that exchange - that moment of love is so precious
It's even prettier in its version on their Christmas Card album - U can hear the whole thing with lovely additional accents 2 it... first version of this song I had ever heard in my life & still the most beautiful & poignant. & the ending of the complete album version sounds so sweetly timeless that it brings tears 2 my eyes. ❤

This song is amazing. The Ron Hicklin Singers, Shirley, and David all in harmony is so moving. You certainly don’t hear this kind of music anymore

I think Shirley is singing. Sounds like it. I really enjoy the older music, too, with the studio ensemble, from the earlier episodes.

You mean Dean Jagger. WC & this PF episode is one of my favorites.
