The ONLY time my cat will open a door by himself is if it's cracked open. Other than that, he'll chill by the door while he waits for me to come out the bathroom.
@KDB349 My cat used to jump on it when we had those handle doors. She'd go up to the door, jump up and get enough weight to pull the handle down and open the door herself. Long story short, we quickly realised it and switched to a door knob. So yes, they can do this very easily and quickly.

For real, even if I didn't know predators are extremely smart and observant creatures, I would be way too paranoid for the car to be unlocked. (To be honest, I wouldn't be anywhere near there with any of my offsprings in the first place.)

That lion was just curious and happened to bite on the door handle. She doesn't know how to open the door as the staff wouldn't train her for that. This was an accident not a lion knowing how the concept of doors and handles work. I know they can be trained but for these Safari lions the last thing you want them to know is how to open doors.
