Just rewatched both of these videos after watching Parker Kligerman get screwed in the Xfinity race at the Roval a few days ago... 5 business days to make the call and they did it when he was within pissing distance of the line
At this point, NASCAR should just go back to 3 GWCs like they did in the mid 2000s to early 2010s. that system was probably the most efficient. You make them race to the end of the backstraight Accident in the backstraight at Bristol? They race to the finish line Accident near the start at Sonoma? I was at the race and was sitting right in front of the leaders when the red was out. Larson needed a jump start to get his car going, and the pace car took off before he could get going. ...Didn't Elly show 2023 Pocono? Not trying to act like a fanboy my guy is retiring this year but, this might not be quite a bias issue. But an issue up-fucking-stairs.
I mean, I can understand why they did it, if they threw the caution for a one car wreck far away from any of the action, then they would have Nashville all over again. What their logic seems to be is if it's a big enough track, and the wreck is very minor (Preece was under the white racing line, little debris), then just say screw it, and let them race as long as possible. It's not consistent I agree, but I guess it's a middle ground, I'm honestly not sure, I wish they'd explain that part...
To add, I feel like this would not be controversial if Ryan Blaney was not on the front row. As a NASCAR fan from the North, it seems like a lot of fans tend to like those good ole' boys from the southeastern U.S., maybe for historical reasons or a connection to the area. For example, everyone seems to hate the playoff format, but Blaney, with arguably the worst racing record of the final four, one that one single race, and was just declared champion, like Jimmy Johnson in 2016. It seems that people like being objective until one of the good ole' southern boys gets involved, then there is a controversy. Just an observation, but not a crazy one.
Can we as fans please decide what we want before we try to tell peoples how to run nascar. We complained about to much overtimes at Nashville but now we're mad they didn't do another overtime at indy? Give me a break 😂
There's a difference between complaining about the drivers inability to not constantly create overtime situations, and NASCAR not creating an overtime situation where it's warranted. It's really not an inconsistent position, but the nuance that makes it is consistent is lost with this framing.
Excellent video on this EP49, you and I have pretty much the same mind on this. and this is coming from a person who was a fan of this back in the 90s and 2000s. NASCAR has pretty much become MEMECAR ever since about 2010 because of what all they've implimented ever since 2004.
Been watching documentaries and a handful of live nascar races since the beginning of the year. Indy was my first in-person one. My talladega plans got canceled on the spot during all those overtimes
I was at that Pocono race in 2023. Unless you were a Hamlin fan, it was nothing but a chorus of boos after that caution came out. Dare I say, even more than when Chase Utley got the Citi Field treatment after the slide on Rueben Tejada.
The biggest thing that frustrated me about the Brickyard 400 and every other similar finish is the inconsistency between what warrants a caution in the first 2 laps vs what warrants one in the final 2 laps. The whole "wait and see if they get going" strategy doesn't work anymore since these cars beach themselves whenever they slide and pop tires, it's almost a guarantee they won't get moving without help. They can still be lenient with calling cautions in the closing laps and overtime, of course we don't want yellows for a car tapping the wall or getting sideways and correcting it, but once a car completely spins and/or stops on the track it should be a yellow just like every other lap of the race. I also think of the race (i think Kansas?) where Buescher was leading due to strategy during green flag stops and a tire rolled out into the trioval grass, Nascar waited about 10 laps for the pit cycle to finish, THEN threw the caution. At any other point, it would've been an immediate caution for a safety hazard on track, but they completely disregarded that. These kinds of judgement calls are why Nascar will never beat the "rigged" allegations. I don't believe Nascar is rigged but way too often they seem to go out of their way to prove it is rigged with these inconsistent judgement calls.
Glad someone said it, I was at the race myself and recorded a rant the next day that took 25 mins and I didn’t want to post it so I just deleted it 😂😂😂
I went to the brickyard 400, first time ever at indy, was absolutely awesome being there until both busch and truex had issues and larson won, im probably never going to go to a cup race again
NASCAR did this for Kyle Busch at NHMS years ago. They waited until Busch got his lap back (on fresh tires) before throwing the caution 3 laps after oil was reported on the track. It was the straw that broke the camels back why I stopped watching nascar after 20+ years
i don't know if it would make good content, but i'd be really interested, as a very casual fan of nascar, of the bump and run and why I shouldn't absolutely hate it as a broader motorsports fan. I'd love to see it from the other side because i just can't stand it.
this was the first nascar race I ever saw in person. the Xfinity series race the day prior had a much more satisfying finish than the cup series one which was a real shame. I was super excited to see how much more exciting the cup series would be.
Hey Elly! You should do a video about dirt track sprint car racing!! More importantly, the Highlimit Series run by Brad Sweet and Kyle Larson, and the World of Outlaws which Larson has ran in. I think I would be cool. 😎
i feel like every second or so major race series riggs it's races to some degree, some just do it sneakier than others... and my believe is, because they know that their racing product is just not it compared to other series that are just naturally entertaining without rigging it's races to provide for allegedly more action

i used to like the overtime rule as well. now id rather just see the race end under caution. id rather see sone one who was leading the race at the agreed upon distance win, not some one from 14th, or someone from 3rd, or someone in second who wrecks the leader on the last lap (Denny Hamlin last example cough cough)
On the one hand, I can agree. On the other. Blaney also got beat by Tyler Reddick who was in the outside line in the second row. I get Larson had the faster car but results do not lie.
I find it funny how many people making mock schedules put the brickyard the first race after the Olympic break so nbc could build up hype advertising it during the Olympics. People at this point are just being babies who hate the fact that the one team they hate won, and are trying to make up reasons as to why they won.
There is no goddamn proof about the sport being rigged. Most of the wins from Hendrick this year either happened because the car and driver were on it that day (Larson at Vegas), or they were at the right place at the right time (Elliott at Texas).
This sport is not rigged in the slightest and these claims of favoritism are bullshit with no proof. Shut the fuck up, and go complain about something else.
...Didn't Elly show 2023 Pocono? Not trying to act like a fanboy my guy is retiring this year but, this might not be quite a bias issue. But an issue up-fucking-stairs.
NASCAR: "F you Ryan!!"
Ryan: :(
I might be the only person who wasn't bothered by the finish of the 2024 Brickyard 400.
Still far better 2015 Fall Talladega and 2022 All-star.
Same
Kyle Larsons win was so good it was underserved
Another banging video!! There should be a video of the greatest nascar schemes in nascar
Can we as fans please decide what we want before we try to tell peoples how to run nascar. We complained about to much overtimes at Nashville but now we're mad they didn't do another overtime at indy? Give me a break 😂
agree. the nascar fanbase is inconsistent af
Maybe because fans have no integrity for the sport or themselves whatsoever and only wish to tip the scales in the favor of their favorite driver.
Nascar fans are just as inconsistent as the officials
NASCAR fans sucks
There's a difference between complaining about the drivers inability to not constantly create overtime situations, and NASCAR not creating an overtime situation where it's warranted.
It's really not an inconsistent position, but the nuance that makes it is consistent is lost with this framing.
Great vid as always. Awesome narrating. I personally like the graphics more than the camera, but ey
In Australia, I've been saying the officiating in Rugby League is bad.
But then Elly reminds me it could be much worse.
I mean it still wasn't as bad as the 2022 All Star Race. I legitimately wanted to fly out to Texas and throw hands after that one.
The stop motion slaps
gotta love an ellyprod rant, the editing makes it even better 😂
4:40 That was for the countdown show being moved to USA
Gotta go check out that link for ya Elly.
Congrats on the sponsorship :)
38 car pushed Kyle. 38.38 seconds until the caution finally flew for Kyle.
Excellent video on this EP49, you and I have pretty much the same mind on this. and this is coming from a person who was a fan of this back in the 90s and 2000s. NASCAR has pretty much become MEMECAR ever since about 2010 because of what all they've implimented ever since 2004.
Loving this new style of video
Thank you Connor for your insight, much love from Cruzy
Glad someone said it, I was at the race myself and recorded a rant the next day that took 25 mins and I didn’t want to post it so I just deleted it 😂😂😂
GG on the sponsorship!
Custom lamp is goated
Not sure which Brickyard was worse now...
2008... With the tires... Because at least NASCAR did its best with what they had...
Or this...
I went to the brickyard 400, first time ever at indy, was absolutely awesome being there until both busch and truex had issues and larson won, im probably never going to go to a cup race again
I was at the 2023 Pocono race. You're right, Denny wasn't the only thing we were booing.
NASCAR did this for Kyle Busch at NHMS years ago. They waited until Busch got his lap back (on fresh tires) before throwing the caution 3 laps after oil was reported on the track. It was the straw that broke the camels back why I stopped watching nascar after 20+ years
NASCAR's dam of legitimacy burst years ago.
YOU DID THIS ELLY
Love your vids. Once again, you up the level of nascar video making. Thanks a lot!
We finally got a sequel, all that tagging you on Twitter everytime NASCAR did a fucky-wucky was worth it
i don't know if it would make good content, but i'd be really interested, as a very casual fan of nascar, of the bump and run and why I shouldn't absolutely hate it as a broader motorsports fan. I'd love to see it from the other side because i just can't stand it.
Didnt mind and could understand the logic behind it since it was 1 car alone at the back. Maybe they should implement a maximum number of overtimes
Austin Dillon already broke this video just a week after posting
something in the air tells me we ain’t done with this series
It's so painful being a NASCAR fan. I love it. So much.
And then NASCAR does the officiating thing.
this was the first nascar race I ever saw in person. the Xfinity series race the day prior had a much more satisfying finish than the cup series one which was a real shame. I was super excited to see how much more exciting the cup series would be.
Seeing that happened really still scratching my head.
7:51 possible nr2003 mod alert ‼‼‼‼
Hey Elly! You should do a video about dirt track sprint car racing!! More importantly, the Highlimit Series run by Brad Sweet and Kyle Larson, and the World of Outlaws which Larson has ran in. I think I would be cool. 😎
10:42 this is my favorite part of the entire video
The fact you grilled this year's Brickyard 400 whilst having a 2008 Brickyard 400 hood on your wall is comedy in and of itself. Lmaooooo
i feel like every second or so major race series riggs it's races to some degree, some just do it sneakier than others... and my believe is, because they know that their racing product is just not it compared to other series that are just naturally entertaining without rigging it's races to provide for allegedly more action
love this vibe of elly video
God, I was at that pocono race. Crowd was great.
Also I didn’t have an issue with the finish being under yellow because at least there were no more attempts.
GWCs are terrible.
haven't seen the video yet but the thumbnail is peak
Hey, i don't remember when i last saw you in the past. But you look so much better compared to before!
I loved the Psych callout bc that show was so good
ELLY GOT A SPONSOR. YOU MADE IT MAN
On point as usual. Thanks for the logical rant and keep on keepin on.
you look @ that then look at Q2 from the Brazilian GP this year. The more things change, the more things stay the same
YIPPIE!!! ELLY POSTED A BANGER
⚠⚠ As a Formula 1/WEC/ MotoGP veteran fan, that is new to the category: ⚠⚠
👉I kinda dislike and have nerve breakdowns seeing the incompetence of the direction... There is A LOT of bad direction on F1, MotoGP and WEC are more "Functioning" but still have mistakes, But NASCAR gosh damn... THE INCOMPETENCE
☝ ALSO, Stages Fricking SUCK... WHY DO YOU PUT A YELLOW FLAG EACH 50 LAPS??? Where is Meritocracy? If you are fast, why do they have to punish you? It's not fair
☝ Also, I Keep trying to understand WHO thought ""playoff point system"" Was a good idea
I called it!! I knew a video would be made!
I was at this race, first NASCAR race, and even as a Byron fan with the race not going well for him, it was a great race until that dumbass ending
i used to like the overtime rule as well. now id rather just see the race end under caution. id rather see sone one who was leading the race at the agreed upon distance win, not some one from 14th, or someone from 3rd, or someone in second who wrecks the leader on the last lap (Denny Hamlin last example cough cough)
On the one hand, I can agree. On the other. Blaney also got beat by Tyler Reddick who was in the outside line in the second row. I get Larson had the faster car but results do not lie.
You are finally back
Top tier content as always!
I find it funny how many people making mock schedules put the brickyard the first race after the Olympic break so nbc could build up hype advertising it during the Olympics. Instead they make it the last race before the break and give fans a bad taste in their mouth waiting 21 days for a Richmond race lol.
