Sj surya sir thuppaki was magic to vijay because of the costume designing..Rest of the films he wont be given class costumes it'll be funky colourfull stuff for songs..But thuppaki had a brilliant script plus costume is what made vijay so much enjoyable.
Ya. True. Costume is one of the reason. One of the scene in thuppaki , Vijay thinking how to rescue his sister from villain , he is too thinking near Bombay beach in whole night then early morning he changed his t-shirt . That scene was class.

If SJS can collaborate with ARM on the screenplay of a film, it will be one hell of an output. I am not sure how much ARM contributed in Kushi apart from assistant director duties. SJS is king of screenplay and presents his films very interestingly. SJS can act in the film too to satisfy his acting urge, but also collaborate on screenplay. And have a mass lead hero (e.g. Vijay, Surya, Ajith, etc) do the film

Thuppaki was different because we saw vijay doing this different role where he would investigate like a detective and catching terrorist instead of masala fighting. The villain had equal strength and intellect like vijay. Vijay's costume was stylish and enjoyable to watch. The event took place in mumbai and he was a military men which showcase the north and south vibe. Aslo,good storyline and not too over emotion like kaathi. I like the scene where he said his brother join the military the next day after his brother was tortured to death. Subtle emotion scene like that will have more impact then over acting crying scenes.
