To those non Chinese, the tea ceremony at 7:10 is an acceptance of Rachele by Luca's parents into their family. For that the parents gave red packets which can contain money or jewellery or 2 melon seeds for the poor families. The contents in the red packet may be empty inside and it is the most important; however the importance lies in wishing good luck to the recipients.
The Chinese, being pragmatic, usually put money inside which help the couple to defray the wedding cost instead of gifts.
