@@michael-t9b7x It seems she laughed at the prospect of issues of male suicide, homelessness, lowered life expectancy, father’s rights, workplace death and male victims of domestic abuse being discussed and the prospect of a Men's Day. @@ChristineRead-ck1uq Philips laughed as she misunderstood what was being discussed - partly due to the way it was delivered.
Philip Davies, "Not only do we have International Women's Day, we also have Women's and Equalities Questions every month in the Chamber, which we don't have for men. So the opportunity for men to raise issues for them is limited "
He goes on to say, "to give you a flavour of the type of thing which make up...."
to which JP laughs, and Davies said he "doesn't know what's so funny"
THEN follows the list of emotional and health issues men can face.
Later JP said she was smirking as she was the only woman on the committee and that alone was proof that men have great power and representation in *Government* and it's inner workings. She - wrongly - thought Davies was complaining about men not having a say in Parliament. "To say men don't have the opportunity to ask questions *in this place*, is quite laughable"
However she was embarrassed, when it turned out he in fact was going on to talk about emotional and health issues facing the PUBLIC male population *not* male parliamentarians. She wasn't laughing at the - latterly cited - issues of male suicide and prostate cancer.

He then later said he "would, but no one's got that much beer."? And the point is, as she said, that he is rightly allowed to say these things, but Liz Truss involving herself with him should cause huge concern within her party. If one of my employees did, I would call them into the office for a very serious chat, that might well end in their dismissal, depending on how they justified their actions. Free speech doesn't mean free from responsibility, and any organisation has an expectation of their employees to behave in a manner that doesn't cause danger to others, a political party more than most.

Do you have any idea how incredibly dangerous that kind of thinking is? Please, study European history for many examples of the horrors that come with that mindset. It's actually worse than the "freedom from consequences" nonsense which is essentially a way of whitewashing taking away their freedom of speech under threat of significant life-long impact. Except in this instance you've gone a step further, suggesting taking away their freedom to say benign things to someone who is forbidden by association.
I wouldn't normally comment on things like this but the rise in authoritarian tendencies and rhetoric is something that personally, I find a lot more alarming than Putin for example. The problem? This was in Romania, and they were convinced that "our constitution" was the American one!! And you see some hard leftist influencers talk about white privilege and CRT. In a country that's basically mono-ethnic, with the exception of two counties, and whose population was living in the Russian style slavery-lite serfdom until the late 19th century. It's madness.
