What they really lacked was a central leader, like Lenin or Mao. Had someone like Blanqui been around and succeeded in taking charge things might have gone very differently

Well, for some unfathomable reason (wink) revolutionary leftism never fails to unite all the conservative, religious, monarchist, fascist factions in their undying hatred for freedom and equality and the more benign and democratic the revolution is, the more vicious the reaction, it seems.
