It's Donny. Hands down. We just saw him about 6 weeks ago & he's still absolutely amazing. He RAPPED for 8 minutes about his entire musical career! It was amazing.
I saw him August 9, and he does put on an amazing show! During this song, with his incredibly smooth voice, he made me cry. Loved watching him tap dance, tell stories, and captivate the entire audience. We laughed the whole night.
My brother and i are huge fans of this musical because of him. We grew up watching his version, the both of us performed it in our drama class production (he was Joseph while i was Judah lol) and we still can sing the entire thing back to front. My dad even met Donny Osmond before i was born, damn it!! DX
I'm team Donny as well - strong voice & charisma. Michael Damian is a close second for me. Saw him in that role on Broadway years ago - he was incredible.
Al of these performers are greatly talented. I saw Donny Osmond play Joseph at Chicago Theater, twice. I specifically remember that high note at the end of Close Every Door. It blew me away!!
I saw Joseph at least six times in Chicago. Donny was and is still the best. It was the nineties. There were many Music stores then. It seemed all of them were selling both the Donny Osmond "Joseph" CD, as well as the Joseph CD of the Broadway production. Whenever my daughter and I spied a Music Store, we would look for those CD's and make sure the Donny Osmond CD was in the front. We put the Broadway version behind them---often backwards and upside down. We were sure we were doing a service to the customers.
Yeah, Donny was the best. It's also weird how many of the other singers don't actually hit all the notes. I never really noticed except for in this side-by-side presentation. I guess the lesson is: if you can hit every note, you'll already be in contention for the very best.
Great Job by all these performers; however, complete Donny Osmond fan here, he is the winner thus far. I so want to see a metal cover of this song with some outrageous high register on vocals (especially at the crux of the song); and properly distorted lead guitar with orchestra and choir of course. Again, great job to all performers.
I used to always say donny was best until I saw the London cast of 2021. Jac yarrow absolutely nailed it. I really hope after the uk tour we will get a cast recording. And a bonus if we get a version with Linzi as the narrator.
Fully agree! Saw Jac a couple weeks ago and he just hits it so effortlessly with so much emotion. Enjoyed his performance so much that I’ve booked to see it again later this year. Just, wow.
Amazing singers. I do agree Donny was outstanding in the roll. I saw it NY with David Cassidy and was surprised he was not included. He was also a terrific singer.❤
I saw Donny in this years ago in Chicago. I just wish the movie had been shot a few years earlier than it was. He's best, and Lee Mead isn't far behind.
I sing this daily in my head (my friend says its kinda sad thats that my musical number..as its so downbeat).. but i hear Jason..As a gayling i travelled alone from Ireland to london to see Jason as Joseph...i was not surprised he got an olivier award nom...he held the audience spellbound. Great memories.
I always associate this masterpiece with Jason Donovan. He was the first one I ever heard it from. And his voice singing it haunts me to this very day.
Donny took special singing lessons in order to change his voice for singing on the stage. I believe those lessons were in Toronto, ON. If you listen to his singing prior to being on the theatrical stage, you might be able to hear some differences. He certainly rose in my estimation in the quality of his voice. He really increased his audience size by doing so. Well done, Donny.
Jason - beautiful Micheal - same as Jason Gary - the weakest of all, no super cool stuff..feels average Bill - very ok, not great but not bad. Keith - great! Stephen - hard to make out due to audio, but sounds great Gareth - fairly awesome Joe - Just brilliant, I wanna give it a chefs kiss. Stanley - FUCKING EPIC, I TELL YOU!! Jaymi - great, no, beautiful Daniel - equally beautiful as Jaymi Lee - amazing Phillip - same as lee but -2 Donny - Same as Stanley and Joe
Going to have to chime in here, the original recording when it was a concept record and the whole "show" clocked in at a half hour. Donny comes a close second but I was one of the fortunate to see Andy Gibb do it on Broadway (disco aside) he knocked it out of the park, so he's my 2nd place choice. Sad he never recorded the version he was in.
I was always a Donny fan and have loved the Osmonds from my teens, and yes, he was excellent, but for me, Joe does it every time - such a fabulous voice
Lee Mead was always my fav intro l I heard Keith Jack - he was amazing! Never heard of him. Stanley Allyn (missed the surname, was really good too. Donny - well, he’s fab
Listen: I have a very specific option up that I haven’t seen anyone do in person but it would be the dream. Joe McElderry does a very cool thing right before the climax that I’d like to see followed up with the next part how Donny Osmond does it but then jump back to the final few notes the way Joe does it. Idk if this makes sense but I want to see someone sing it that way so badly
For me, it’s the first one, Jason Donovan. That version is the one I have listened to a million times and will always be the best version to me. Donny is a close second though.
DONNIE OSMOND ALL THE WAY!!! NAILED IT!! ON TOP OF THE FACT THAT HE WAS 42 YEARS OLD AT THE TIME AND STILL IS THE VERY BEST, HE HAD THE GIFT OF CONVEYING THE EMOTION OF THE LYRICS AND YOU FELT LIKE HE WAS GOING THROUGH THE HELL JOSEPH WENT THROUGH AND HIS CHARISMA DRAWS YOU IN!!
Donny Osmond had another version that I liked a lot. Out of these versions I go with Stanley Allyn Owen. I wish he was in this video, but I saw Patrick Cassidy perform this, and he was amazing as well.
Jess Conrad because he was Joseph when I was in the choir for 4 performances aged 11 at Sunderland Empire and he picked me up on the final night after singing Close Every Door.
Same. I watched it on a school trip and Phillip had just taken over the role from Jason Donovan and to be honest while all the performances were great Phillip's stands out that bit more from the rest.
Yeah, Phillip would like you as a youngster. He was fucking that 19 year old lad from This Morning as a bloke in his late 50s. Sick puppy needs putting down.
It seems to be a less popular opinion but I'm with you all the way. I saw him in 1992 and he'll always be Joseph to me. That performance was what got 8-year-old me hooked on musicals :)
Out of the guys you’ve shown I’d say Donny or Joe Mc sang it the best. The best Joseph I’ve seen was a guy called Richard Swerrun. His acting was great, his voice was incredible. Just my opinion, you should look him up.
Donny had the guts to hit that last note and this one goes to him.
there were a couple higher than his, but yes, I like his the most or 2nd most
Donny, nobody else even comes close. He definitely has the best voice.
It's Donny all the way for me.
Yep definately HES MY FAV JOSEPH !!!
Yeah I do that I’m very happy ???
Donny all the way !!
Thanks you 😘 ☺️
Awesome
It's Donny. Hands down.
We just saw him about 6 weeks ago & he's still absolutely amazing. He RAPPED for 8 minutes about his entire musical career! It was amazing.
No friggen way, i had no idea he was still doing stuff. Man i hope he makes it to Australia :D
I saw him August 9, and he does put on an amazing show! During this song, with his incredibly smooth voice, he made me cry. Loved watching him tap dance, tell stories, and captivate the entire audience. We laughed the whole night.
Donny all the way don,t even argue with me he is the best Joseph he is so talented where my Donny fans at?
Here
My brother and i are huge fans of this musical because of him. We grew up watching his version, the both of us performed it in our drama class production (he was Joseph while i was Judah lol) and we still can sing the entire thing back to front. My dad even met Donny Osmond before i was born, damn it!! DX
No arguments here!!
Always and forever Donny Osmond!!! Just WOW!!!
IKR none of these guys had the oomph, HE had oomph out the wazoo haha
Donny for sure. Love his voice ❤️
Donny osmond. ALWAYS! It should be a law that everyone sings the ending that way
I'm team Donny as well - strong voice & charisma. Michael Damian is a close second for me. Saw him in that role on Broadway years ago - he was incredible.
Totally agree!
It’s 100% Donny for me he’s the best ❤️
Damian all the way.
Thanks
yeah Donny
For me its donny and joe
Donny Osmond no contest
I loved every performance, but Donny will always be #1 to me ❤️
Saw Donny in Chicago about 30 years ago and have been a fan since. We saw his show a month ago. At age 66, his voice is still amazing.
Donny IS Joseph. There will be no other
Donny Osmond of course he put his whole heart and soul into it..
Without a doubt, Donny Osmond blows all of the others away!!
Donny Osmond. Perfection.
I seen it live when Joe McEdlerry was Joseph and he has a sublime voice. But I’m a 90’s child so it’s Donny Osmond for me.
A 90s child?? Donny was our 'boyfriend' in the 70s!!!!😂😂
There are three that I would put up as near to Donny, but he’s the only one that gave me brain tingles.
Just brain tingles !???
Hands down... Donny Osmond all the way.
I feel like Lee has the most power, and that’s what makes it the best for me.
All the performers did a fantastic job, but Donny could hit every perfect note that the others couldn't.
Donny Osmond gets my vote hands down
I can’t help but love Jason Donovan. He was my first “celebrity” crush, lol.
The best: Donny Osmond
Speaking facts 💯 👏
Al of these performers are greatly talented. I saw Donny Osmond play Joseph at Chicago Theater, twice. I specifically remember that high note at the end of Close Every Door. It blew me away!!
Donny Donny Donny❤❤❤
Donny sings it the best by miles and miles and miles and.....You get my drift!
And, by far the most gorgeous...ever!!!!❤
I saw Joseph at least six times in Chicago. Donny was and is still the best. It was the nineties.
There were many Music stores then. It seemed all of them were selling both the Donny Osmond "Joseph" CD, as well as the Joseph CD of the Broadway production. Donny, Donny, and oh yeah Donny... nuff said
Yep. You said it all!!!
I have to agree with almost 100 percent with what the people say
Donny Osmond
Donny Osmond. The high note still gives me goosebumps ❤.
Donny Osmond is FANTASTIC. Donny only!
Great Job by all these performers; however, complete Donny Osmond fan here, he is the winner thus far. I so want to see a metal cover of this song with some outrageous high register on vocals (especially at the crux of the song); and properly distorted lead guitar with orchestra and choir of course. DONNY OSMOND!!

I’ll have to look him up and listen! 🌈
Fully agree! Saw Jac a couple weeks ago and he just hits it so effortlessly with so much emotion. Enjoyed his performance so much that I’ve booked to see it again later this year. Just, wow.
@@KellyIsShort just saw him tonight and holy shit he killed the entire performance but particularly close every door!
I saw it this weekend with the same cast, I think Jac lacks a bit of power, great voice, but I think this song is better a bit more operatic..
Donny periodt
Donny Osmond - period. It's not even a contest. I think he would have had an amazing Broadway career if he had wanted it.
Amazing singers. I do agree Donny was outstanding in the roll. I saw it NY with David Cassidy and was surprised he was not included. He was also a terrific singer.❤
Donny osmond sang it best loved him since I was 12 years old ❤
I found this comparison surprisingly even. I liked all of them which I wasn't expecting.
I saw Donny in this years ago in Chicago. I just wish the movie had been shot a few years earlier than it was. He's best, and Lee Mead isn't far behind.
me too, and I don't think the movie did his performance at the Chicago theater justice AT ALL
It's Donny for me. I saw this live a couple times with Sam Harris as Joseph and he was great too.
Oh I''m super jealous of you. But I did get to see Sam in The Life so I won't complain too much.
Donny, Donny and the again Donny!
Donny Osmond❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Donny sung Close Every Door, the best. Simply superb. Helen 🦋
Donny.... Lee... Stanley
Donny Osmond ! 💜💜💜💜
Donny!
When I think of this song in my head Jason's vocals are what I here but I always see Donny!
I always associate this masterpiece with Jason Donovan. He was the first one I ever heard it from. And his voice singing it haunts me to this very day.
Donny, lee, and Stanley are definitely the best
DONNY OSMOND 100 percent he's the one who made this song so dang good, the others are kinda good, but Donny absolutely completes this song.
Jason was and will ever be the best
Donny took special singing lessons in order to change his voice for singing on the stage. I believe those lessons were in Toronto, ON. If you listen to his singing prior to being on the theatrical stage, you might be able to hear some differences. He certainly rose in my estimation in the quality of his voice. Jason - beautiful

Gary - the weakest of all, no super cool stuff..feels average

Gareth - fairly awesome
Joe - Just brilliant, I wanna give it a chefs kiss.
Stanley - FUCKING EPIC, I TELL YOU!!
Jaymi - great, no, beautiful
Daniel - equally beautiful as Jaymi
Lee - amazing
Phillip - same as lee but -2
Donny - Same as Stanley and Joe
To be fair, Gary was the original; he was singing it straight. The embellishments came later.
@@Phentari I should've said this was my opinion on how I heard it as..
Lee, amazing. Yes. And Jason, the classic version.
Donny
It's Stanley and Donny for me
Donny not only hit those insanely high notes...he made it sound easy. But I guess that's what a lifetime of training and performing does.
Have to say Gary Bond was the first I ever heard in 1974. Still tops for me.
Keith Jack, Stanley Allyn Owen, Michael Damian, and Donny Osmond! :) They all gave it their all as Joseph
I love how they all kind of make it their own as well. All slightly different but amazing high notes!
They're all good ,& they're all gorgeous!
I was always a Donny fan and have loved the Osmonds from my teens, and yes, he was excellent, but for me, Joe does it every time - such a fabulous voice
Lee and Donny win in a landslide!
Sorry but Donny Osmond sound like a pop song version. I think either Jason Donovan or Gary bond are better.
Yep their my FAV
@@cattyfish_7759 I liked Keith too.
Hands down Donny Osmond
Donny for sure best voice,
Stanley Allyn Owen followed by Donny Osmond and then Jason Donovan
I Love Them All❣
Keith Lee and Daniel. are the best Joseph’s in my eyes
Stanley Allyn Owen - if only you’d chosen a better quality clip, it is here in TH-cam.
In first , second, and third order... Donny, Donny, and,Donny. Nuf said.
Lee Mead was always my fav intro l I heard Keith Jack - he was amazing! Never heard of him.
Stanley Allyn (missed the surname, was really good too.
Donny - well, he’s fab

Lee Mead and Joe McElderry
1. Donny 2. Stanley
Michael Donovan, then Donny. Lee meed looks like he just successfully delivered the ring into the fires of Mount Doom.
Lee mead without a doubt. Best control, best at reaching the notes, best power, and no pitchiness.
For me, it’s the first one, Jason Donovan. That version is the one I have listened to a million times and will always be the best version to me. Donny is a close second though.
This is my favorite song from the musical
All of them sounded great! But if I had to pick one? Gareth Gates is my favorite for his sweet voice, and Donny Osmond is my sentimental favorite.
Mr. Osmond, hands down.
Donny Osmond had another version that I liked a lot. Out of these versions I go with Stanley Allyn Owen. I wish he was in this video, but I saw Patrick Cassidy perform this, and he was amazing as well.
Donny!!!
Joe For me, he hits the high notes no problem
1. Donny obvs 2. Stanley Allyn Owen 3. Gareth Gates. Honourable mentions: Lee Mead, Joe McElderry, Jaymi Hensley
I'm so used to Donny's voice but wow they are all fantastic
Jess Conrad because he was Joseph when I was in the choir for 4 performances aged 11 at Sunderland Empire and he picked me up on the final night after singing Close Every Door.
How is it possible to make any comparison with such poor sound quality?
Jason Donovan 💯
Donnny is my Joseph!!
Phillip is the one I listened to as a youngster and I'm attached to his wonderful version.
Same. I watched it on a school trip and Phillip had just taken over the role from Jason Donovan and to be honest while all the performances were great Phillip's stands out that bit more from the rest.

Donny for sure, but I had forgotten about how good Michael Damian was as well!
Yeah Donny
I saw Jason and Phillip both equally best 😀
