    It's because of too much immigration driving housing prices up, coupled now with oppressive taxation and govt overspending.

    • @elledan

      Even before the mass immigration it was cray.

    • @terrafirma75
      @terrafirma75 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Absolutely! The numbers of immigrants are higher than housing available. But that is only in the last 10 years. In other areas like Vancouver, a lot of it has to do with people buying places to rent out as Air BnB. Many many dwellings sit empty majority of the time. As well as foreign “investments” in which people overseas purchased cheap places, knocked them down and built McMansions and again, the places sit empty.

    • @vicariouswitness
      @vicariouswitness วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Many empty plots sit empty around my area , big city. Gov penalizes empty homes but doesn’t do anything to empty plots. These plots can be developed and prop local economies through jobs ext. Gov can also make laws that restrict property purchases to 1 , maybe 2, property ownership per citizen. Could be a law that states a natural born citizen is “first in line” to take possession of a home for sale at the listing price. Gov could also restrict investment companies with a cap on purchasing properties. There is something interesting that could be promoted… group mortgage investments that allow groups of 10+- people to purchase a single property. Allowing lower income people start the capital investing for future purchases.

      @@terrafirma75 Mass migration has been a problem for 50 years. So has foreign investing allowed from countries using real estate to launder their fake foreign currency into a real Canadian one..
      Why is there a housing shortage? Too many regulations and licenses required, high costs of construction, over taxation, inflation, etc.
      AirB&B is not a problem since what people do with their homes is their business. A lot cannot afford mortgage payments without renting out their basement or turning it into AirB&B.

      My own family members had properties purchased in the good ol 60z through 90z and when they got offers in the millions they sold and moved to the interior. Of coarse happiness made me happy but it also tightened the vice on my (and most others) local situation and the people they sold to now have mortgages in the millions and need to charge me thousands to rent. Because of this “capital mechanism” our local society has fallen or we need to strangle others to float.

      This is why I think the homeless population in Canada is in the millions. Hidden homeless who can't afford to have a place so they stay with family now or friends. Its insane, but it will get worse. RCMP report in the coming 5 years fears revolt! When I see homeless in the coming years I can't judge them for "lazy or drugs" there is a collapse happening that's about to go into hyperdrive.

    Big question, who can afford to buy these? Everyone I know is struggling financially. Yet car and house prices, the top two purchases in people's lives, somehow go up. How is this possible? The laws of supply and demand curves in economics are just not working. Demand should be plummeting with people's incomes coming down, yet they don't.

      However I did buy a home for $10k. Everything is dirty, peeling, rusted, rotten and broken, overgrown forest for a yard buried in decades of rotten leaves containing garbage hidden under the compost. But with elbow grease and buying second hand you can make do. But certifications and registrations are weaponized. Make sure you do all the work yourself on your furnace and hot water tank and electrical because once contractors tag them and register the damage or code violations with utilities, they will refuse to hook up utilities, even if it is still safe and functional. Learn how to do the job right yourself and avoid being forced to replace everything for tens of thousands of dollars. They must never know history of your home, so keep it to yourself and never allow them to snoop around and take pictures of other things in your home.
