I'm really enjoying your podcasts! Every moive Matt Damon is in he is always wearing great knit sweaters. I pause the screen all the time when i see his!! It's an addiction!!
My husband is patient and rewinds often so i can take pictures of the beautiful knits i see. Yes, i have knitted some, but not all. They give me great ideas, but i never search for a pattern like you do. I knit from my ideas then make a plan and knit it. I love the knitted sweater turned into cardi. Its beautiful. The only way i can think of to fix it is to dye the whole sweater a soft color. It will no longer be white but choose a color that will go well with green, but not change the green colors. Ive done this before and it turned out well for me. LOVE your ideas.
We watch mostly crime/detective shows on Britbox and Acorn...lots of great knits! In particular is the show Shetland. Almost everybody is wearing handknits all the time! (I may be exaggerating just a bit). Some of them are well-worn and tattered, but the beauty is seeing all the knitwear worn in "everyday life".
I actually know someone who is often hired to knit for movies around here in Toronto. Pretty good $$ for those commissions. My 10 year old granddaughter and I were watching Mean Girls 2 and the lead girl was wearing an oversize hot pink vest/slipover. My granddaughter asked if I would knit if for her....just bought the yarn of course! Rosie
That sounds like a fun project! I have a friend in Vancouver who knits for TV and movies. That is one of the rare knitting for cash gigs that’s worth it 😊
Thank you thank you thank you for finding The Dude's sweater by Andrea Rangel. I bought "The Royal We" pattern, already have the yarn in my stash, and will be knitting my daughter and my grandson the sweaters. Casting on probably in a week or so (finishing up another sweater for the grandson). The Big Lebowski is a family favorite.
I am forever taking photos from film, TV, random people on the street. My family now just ignore me when I start oooh-ing. Titally agree with The Killing. I watched the Danish version. In fact any of the Scandi noire series/films is chock full of fantastic knits. My latest finds are Irish series on Netflix. We're watching Obituary at the moment. Apart from the entertainment value, I have found THE loveliest sweater - the Conker Sweater by Iris H (on Rav) which has gone straight into my queue. I'm so glad I'm not the only person who does this.... Thank you! 😊
Today I got a Coldwater Creek ad in my FB feed. I love it and thought it would be easy to knit. Went to Ravelry and found a few that were close. I will see if I can adjust one of the patterns I found on Ravelry, close enough to the original.
In Star Trek the Next Generation there is a scene where Dr. Beverly Crusher is wearing a GORGEOUS blue sweater dress piece and I literally gasped paused gasped rewind pause and pictures
My The Holiday obsession is the cardigan Kate Winslet wears in the scene where she meets Jack Black out in the driveway. It’s floaty and feminine and beautiful… I have done many Ravelry searches for that one.
I don't watch a lot of movies, but I did LOVE Katniss's sweater/vest/cowl thingie in that first movie. Way back when, I searched and saw all the patterns available on Ravelry, but I can guarantee you that this design would look atrocious on me, mores the pity. The sweater pattern I would love to track down is a sweatshirt-style sweater, with a 2"-ish standing collar featuring a gorgeous cable. It also has cables down the raglan sleeves and down the arms. I saw it on a video of someone wearing it at a Rhinebeck years ago.
A number of years ago I was watching "The Holiday" and once I saw THAT sweater I couldn't even concentrate on the movie. At that time I tried finding a patter that was even close and couldn't. For Christmas that year my 20 yr old daughter that was by no means a master knitter devised her version of this sweater. It was the best present ever.
I do it too - I take photos of the screeen, LOL. “Only murders in the building” - on Hulu. All of the seasons Selena Gomez wears great handknits. One of them created frenzy with Knitting Collage fans (“Selena dress”). I recommend show too!
A beautiful sweater I noticed recently was on the character Sandy in the Apple+ series Silo, first season, around episode 3. It 's a beautiful dark charcoal long-sleeved sweater with some symmetrical open work on the front. Haven't located a source for it yet.
Yes, yes, yes! --a number of times as well as spottings on documentaries, some music videos and in magazines. I once saw a sweater on a tv program and went so far as to contact a series to try to find the person who knitted the sweater. I'll snap multiple photos, enlarge, study, investigate/practice stitches --once in a while I will simply have to create a duplicate, as best I can from all my research (I keep a project journal of searches). I totally get where you're coming from!
Nicole, I really enjoyed this episode! Lots of very inspiring ideas. 💖 Maybe it's not a "handknit" but, MY obsession/dream knit is what I call "Walter's grey cardigan" from the "Fringe" series! 💖💖💖 Don't recall which season but it's about halfway through when he starts wearing it. It covers the hips, has pockets and shawl collar. A simple design with intersting patterning at the yoke/shoulder area and near the edge of the sleeves__which is where I'm stumped. I know it's nothing spectacular, yet, I'm not sure how to get that 'zig-zag effect' stitch patterning. Thanks for all the 'eye candy'! 💖 Btw, that sweater Daniel Craig is wearing looks like something I would attempt__very structured with what appears to me to be my fav, seed stitch, as well as the color! 😛💖🙌😺
I just searched his cardigans...SO INTERESTING! You're right - seemingly simple, yet mysterious. I couldn't find a decent picture to blow up enough to really look at the stitches. I guess I'll have to watch the show and go stand by the TV (again) 😂
Thank you so much for this video! I'm headed to take the bar exam in two weeks and plan to stop at a LYS the day before to pick up my "bar yarn." I wanted to make sure I had a pattern before going, and now I do! The Dissent Sweater is perfect.
I do that all the time with BBC series like Father Brown and Miss Marple. I did actually replicate the diamond lace pattern on a yellow cardigan worn by Suzy in Father Brown Season 1 and knit my pink cardigan with it.
I get terribly excited when I see handmades in the wild but one thing that got my attention in a movie recently was a granny square cardigan in Longlegs (the last Nicolas Cage movie)
Noooo…no movie sweaters…but I share Nicole’s love of teal/turquoise/blue-green hues and I love her necklace. ☺️ And Daniel Craig in fisherman’s rib is always delightful!
You are brilliant with new types of content. I have noticed in the last 6mos to 1yr that on a lot of long running tv series there are a lot of hand knit sweaters that I have seen the patterns on Ravelry. On all the law and order series and Grey's Anatomy (don't judge) Why not have a mal that is about hand knits on the screen instead of a particular pattern. My favorite example that got my clicker going is from either season 3 or 4 of Yellowstone. The oversized cardi that the Native American woman who was the wife of Costner's son. It was white with a native american design in red and black. I have found it for sale on the Yellowstone website but not the pattern or who knit it. This is really fun My husband now calls me in the tv room and says "is that one hand knit" lol
Not only guilty of suddenly getting absorbed by the pattern a actor was wearing (and in some cases, showing to perfection), but completely distracted by what the scene was about. Even had my partner one time, stop the video and ask a question that could have only been answered by following the dialogue. Colour me dumfounded! Perplexed! Completely clueless! I hadn't wanted to stop the video and peruse because it came on so suddenly (I'll remember, right?). So focused on the stitching, the drape, the possible type of yarn used, that everything else jus faded out of my consciousness. Now I hold the remote, (I have the POWER!) and stop as appropriate, take notes, then resume and enjoy the show!
Great video! - thanks for your detective work 😊 like you, I am so easily distracted by a beautiful sweater on screen. As a Danish knitter, I have of course done my fair share of Sarah Lund sweaters, but I take inspiration from many other scandi-noir style crime series. And there are some great suggestions here in the comment section as well!
Bellas green hoodie sweater in Twilight (lol I know, I know) 3 pines cable cardigan from season 3, and the white sweater with a circular yoke of black feathers worn by Tantoo Cardinal. I really wanted to make the sweater Kyle Gallner wore in Alien Code but everyone tells me its woven not Knit (aww) and I don't have the skills to make it into a knit design. I love it though!
Interweave had an edition Winter 2019 which was all science themed. There was a DNA candle pull over which had a similar cabling pattern to the Grandpa Cardi you mentioned. Might be worth a look?
There is an episode of the tv show 'doom patrol' called 'Immortimus Patrol' (season 4 episode 9), where basically every character has a custom knit sweater or pullover that is sort of a christmas theme, but as if the primary symbol of christmas was ham. A fairisle style pullover where some rows are the word "HAM" repeated across it, a festive tree with ham underneath as presents, that sort of thing. I do not think I would wear any of them, but as soon as i saw them i thought 'oh i wish i had that costume designers job'
That was super fun. Knits in movies are fascinating. Where did they come from? Who made them? Who copied the design? I watched a video once of someone who had contacts in the costuming field and had info about some really great handknits on the silver screen and dang if I can remember who posted it.
If you ever get the chance to watch the Danish version of The Killing, DO IT! I don’t know why they did it, but for the American remake they changed the plot entirely! Different perpetrator, different motive. But they did keep a lot of all the other stuff into the smallest of details. Same people, same scenes, same relationships. I was blown away when I watched the American version (I’m from Europe so I saw the Danish one when it came out). Still don’t understand why they had to change it. But it does make for an interesting watch of the original (maybe that’s the reason? 😂)
I have to admit, I've never noticed, which surprises me. I've watched the US version of Killing twice, I think before I started knitting again. The US version of that show is the best, the other one, the story changes in places, not as compelling.
I like to watch Chinese dramas and there is one that I want to make the drama name is love me, love my voice episode 23. If anyone has an idea for the sweater that the protagonist is wearing please let me know thanks.

One of the most interesting topics….ever!
The Miss Marple scarf and The Secret Garden slouchy Tam are two that I went looking for.

Agree!!! 😍
Love Shetland!
All episodes of “All Creatures Great and Small” on PBS feature gorgeous (mostly colorwork) sweaters. ❤
I second this and also would add Call the Midwife to this, more vintage style knits and lots of colorwork but all are drop dead gorgeous knits!
‘At nauseamum” I love it. ❤
😁
Mine are The Lighthouse and Mabel's sweater 2nd episode Only Murders in the building!😂
All of the sweaters on masterpiece theatres All Creatures Great and Small. So good!

Great vlog Nicole. I’ve watched the danish version (with sub titles) just loved it. Lots of great Scandi Noir dramas on the go. 🙋🏼🏴
I'll definitely check it out!
Another great episode!!!
Thanks, Wendy!! 🤗💖
All of Sam's sweaters in Cheers!
Yes! Great 80s vibe 😁
"Will Trent" on Hulu has some of the most beautiful, modern and inspiring knitwear!

My The Holiday obsession is the cardigan Kate Winslet wears in the scene where she meets Jack Black out in the driveway. It’s floaty and feminine and beautiful… I have done many Ravelry searches for that one.
That is a pretty sweater, for sure. It would likely have to be knit in a fluffy lace weight to get that “floaty” quality 😊
I don't watch a lot of movies, but I did LOVE Katniss's sweater/vest/cowl thingie in that first movie. I started watching this series, but got distracted by something else. I definitely need to get back to it! 😁
I love the sweater that is in murders in the building. It has gradually smaller cables coming from the neckline down to around the bust line
Oooo…that’s right…I forgot that one!
Me too. Awesome!
You make me to checkout all these sweater, want all thanks
I’m sure I’m not the only one to mention the knits on the BritBox series Shetland - so yummy! Visiting the Scottish isles is on my bucket list.
You are not the first! I need to check out that show! 📺

Cool!

Not familiar with this - I’ll have to check it out! 😊
@@Knicoleknits it's my favorite show! It's a British anthology show. I stumbled upon it while Black Mirror was on a hiatus.
I’ve never thought about the knits on tv. 🤷♀️. Daniel Craig is cute bit I’m a Henry Cavill/Witcher fan ❤️🤣
I’ve knit a Katniss cowl thing, I don’t remember from which pattern, none of my three daughters wanted it 😂
Oops! 😂
And you had me pause the screen to stare at the pictures you had chosen 😂😂😂
How’s that for audience participation 🎉
