Did you know that Stick Season has an Olivia Rodrigo cover? It's fantastic, honestly i think it's better than the already excellent original Also, glad to see sailor song make it! One of the best songs of the decade
@@Oble_Noceda Olivia Rodrigo also recently performed a cover of Tyler Childers’ “All Your’n” with Childers himself at a Kentucky tour show. Given Rodrigo’s love of both artists as well as Taylor Swift obviously, it won’t be surprising at all if she ultimately pivots in a more country (or at the very least “Folklore”-esque direction) with future material.
@@Oble_Noceda And I already know Olivia would kill it if she leaned more into roots-music territory: especially considering how gut-punching "Scared Of My Guitar" was.
For some reason I expected Hozier's Too Sweet to be at #1 and surprised it only ranked at #8. It's also surprising to me that Chappell Roan did better on the UK/Ireland charts than on the US charts and was glad to see Sailor Song (my personal favorite hit of the year) make this YE which it didn't in the US because of how the chart year was stupidly set up to end in October for some reason.
The entries which shocked me the most (personally), were Dasha's "Austin" wrapping the year up at #4 (!), while conversely "Not Like Us" could only muster a #45 year-end peak and "Greedy" a #35 year-end peak. Dasha strikes me as a one-hit wonder all but certainly given her lack of vocal personality, and I just readily assumed she was just making statistical noise stateside via TikTok. So I was surprised to learn she was one of the biggest stories in your home country throughout 2024. Another observation I made, is how far Dua Lipa leveled off this year. And it's a shame because "Houdini" kicks all kinds of ass (although "Training Season" was always a terrible single choice that derailed momentum for the album badly) and HELLO: "These Walls" was always right there to go with instead. (shrug) But yeah: BRUTAL year for Dua Lipa from an era-to-era perspective.
Also: Gracie Abrams made the splash she has this past year in part because of Taylor Swift's endorsement. An endorsement from Taylor Swift goes a long, LONG way and gave her all the needed free publicity to boost her public profile and flesh it out from there.
Stick Season just accurately reflects Irish weather and energy in Winter you can see why it is a big hit 😅
