13:51 Mechanized warfare is extra cool in this deck because its a replacement effect that will affect both the original spell and immodane’s ability, so a lightning bolt will hit a creature for 4 then each opponent for 5.
Any replacement effect for damage will do this. So if you wanted to step outside of Mitch’s budget recommendations, getting a fiery emancipation out will turn that bolt into 27 to the table
If anyone is looking to make this deck even more gross, consider adding cards like Grafted Exoskeleton to give Immodane infect, significantly reducing the amount of damage you have to do to win. Just make sure your pod would be okay with a play style like this before doing it
@@jlpedro correct, commander damage is only combat damage. However, with Immodane and other cards like Nekusar, they are doing the damage to the other players, therefore if they have infect, the damage will be done as poison counters
Lifelink was fun:) gained 54 life in one turn off the azor player and other opponents died. Needless to say, azor player conceded on draw. I'm a not a Red player, but she made me rethink:)
I recommend Basilisk Collar instead of the other equipment for lifelink. It's casting and equip cost is lower than the rest, and has the added benefit of killing in the event of needing to block.
I might be wrong but Solphim, Mayhem dominus is on the field I think would cause 4x the damage since it would double the damage the instant/sorcery causes then doubles the damage this commander causes to each opponent
You are correct. First you cast Shivan Meteor to an opponent's creature, for example. Solphim in the field will duplicate the damage, for a total of 26 damage dealt to the poor creature. Imodane triggers and is ready to dish out 26 damage to each opponents. But then, Solphim triggers again on that noncombat damage. Now all opponents will be dealt 52 damage.
I run a Solphim Burn deck with Imodane in the 99 and it's funny as shit. I dealt a total of 50 damage on turn 5 (with only 2 opponents, so it would have been 70 in a 4 pod). Turn 4 solphim, turn 5 imodane and then lithomantic barrage on a poor white or blue creature. It causes 10 damage to the creature, 20 to each opponent
I got lucky with a Set Booster Box, and got Imodane. Made a quick and dirty decklist. Now I have another list for comparisons. For upgrades in this deck, get the cards that multiply the burn damage such as City on Fire, Solphim, to name a few.
Fiery Emancipation is also a really good card to have in this deck, especially because it triggers twice with Imodane. A one mana Lightning Bolt deals 9 damage to a target, when then causes Imodane to deal 27 damage to each opponent.

10:30 Mishra's Command doesn't trigger Imodane's ability because all of its modes target and you _must_ choose two modes. Hence, not targeting ONLY a single creature. I ran into this when considering it for a Zada deck.
It does trigger, like you said he only target only that creature and player, it meets the criteria. Like just Into the Maw of Hell also works, destroy target land, deal 13 DMG to target creature.
Nope. Anything that targets only 1 creature works. I can cast a spell that targets players and 1 creature and she will still go off. That's the beauty of it. I'll use crackle with power to target players and 1 creature, it will still trigger Imodane as it only targeted 1 creature.
@@stillwellstillhere1374this is incorrect. There can only be a single target on an instant or sorcery for Imodane to trigger and that singular target must be a creature. If there are any additional targets on any instant or sorcery, Imodane will not trigger
@derekstoll1282 you are wrong. The condition is that the instant damages 1 creature, other player targets are not a condition for the ability. Not sure why they didnt make the cut, but Insult//Injury and Quest for the Pure Flame are two huge cards that double all damage, for less than $0.50 each. And since damage is done to a creature, and THEN Imodane deals damage, a Lightning Bolt with a doubler on the field does (3×2×2) damage, giving you 12 damage on the table for a single mana. Zada, Hedron Grinder also allows you to multiply your damage by making a copy of your burn spell for each creature on your board. As long as you stack the triggers to kill Imodane last (if dealing more than 4 damage per spell), you'll get each copy to filter through, easily killing the table with a single spell.
I think Zada is a risky card, since the original spell have to target Zada (so this will always resolve after the copy that targets Imodane) and you copying only for your creatures. You need much creatures on the board to really stack this up since you playing more or less a spellslinger deck.
I recently pulled her and immediately saw this potential. Even better to see I can make the deck extra budget friendly. I look forward to being the first to die in games after dealing too much damage with this commander.

Are you sure that Imodane trigger counts for Hostility trigger? Or do you suggest Hostility as an alternative win con in combination with other instant/sorceries in the deck?
@@matousjankadlecek226 Crap. Double checking it does specifically state "If a spell you control would deal damage..." Thanks for the question so I could be corrected. As soon as this card came out, it went in my Gisela, Blade of Goldnight burn/group slug deck. Also, I know Stuffy Doll gets all the love, but Brash Taunter is just a better version of it. But I have both, and a bunch of other of those cards in Gisela. They're great!
In my testing, Brash Taunter is better *most* of the time, except when someone manages to get off some kind of Protection from Red effect-it’s the same reason why Stonecoil Serpent is in my sideboard. Sometimes, you need Colorless Damage.
Okay, but I have some serious questions about the rulings: let's say I have Into the Maw of Hell, where you target a land and deal 13 to target creature. Would it still apply for Imodane? Since it specifies that the instant or sorcery spell targets a single creature? What about cards that say "any target", "creature or planeswalker" or "creature or player"?
I do think that this deck could benefit from a Darksteel Plate or some other source of Indestructible so that you can pop that on Imodane and that lets you target her with your burn spells.
I'm still working on my bAlrog durin's bane deck/ mogis God of slaughter... interchangeable commander deck... going precon style 😎 with it. haven't decided on the 3rd option, but I feel like people lean into treasure tokens too hard and have no win con in the deck Soni am just going to build it with mass sacrifice effects to keep the board clear not solely focusing on treasure.... waiting for my sauron to arrive so I can do 9 nazgul, plus both krenkos... deck is practically locked into what it will have on theme which isn't fun to build, but will be fun to play even if less than efficient sauron + 9 nazgul, 10 ramp, 10 draw, +39 land, +10 goblin/orc generators and the army leaders from the set, +10 removal, +11 mystery idk yet... I contemplated building him with just obnoxious cards, but I would rather be on theme and just be building hordes of orcs and goblins and can't not have nazgul... so...I have full art legolas counterbof kills I can build optimally off theme... basically lotr set if locking all of my commander decks into them and idc because I love Tolkien so much
Anyone can answer me a Question? does imodane's ability resolve even if she is the target of the spell AND dies, or the trigger would come after the damage (and therefore it's death) resolves? Or resolves between the damage and the death? Cause idk why, but the idea of adding her to a wide Zada deck, and suddenly a 3 damage lightning bolt targeting Zada, and therefore imodane and say, 6 other goblins, suddenly turns into 24 damage to each opponent, and that seems pretty Funi. And I was asking about how the stack works because this wouldn't work if death causes her to not trigger. Tho I think it could be somewhat easy to make her indestructible anyways so....
Should work with a 3 mana spell because she has 3 toughness. Even with more damage spells this would work but you have to remember the Spell which targets Zada will always be the first on the stack, so the last resolving. At this time Imodane will not be on the battlefield anymore.
I just built this commander, so excited for the cards to arrive. Your channel has me so invested in budget deck building so i found this commander in a pack and decided to build around her 😅
If you want to win a lot of games with this commander include neheb into your deck. Can win turn 4 easily if you can protect neheb and play some mana ramp turn 1-3
I did 44 damage to the entire table and won in a single turn on turn 5. Another game, i did 13 damage to everyone with Grafted Exoskeleton for Infect. Imodane is a menace.
Built my deck and dropped a 117 damage shot to the table and doubled up for the sure fire kill. Used double cast with Into the maw of hell for 13 while city on fire on board so 39 > imodane takes the 39 with city on fire for 117 x 2
Into the Maw of Hell doesn't trigger Imodane's ability as it doesn't target a single creature, it also targets a land. It's ambiguously worded but judges have ruled that the target of the spell must be a single creature and nothing else, even non-creatures.
I love edh burn decks. I just put an Imodane deck together last week and I can’t wait to play it. Can someone explain to me why we would need wayfarer’s babble in a mono deck? Wouldn’t an extra mountain be the same?
Turn 1 bauble Turn 2 crack bauble Turn 3 play immodane An extra mountain wouldn’t be the same because wayfarers bauble allows you to get 2 lands down on a single turn cycle, putting you ahead instead of on track.
I would think you would want to run skred instead of spitting earth. Most playgroups would be cool with you rule 0ing your lands as snow lands if you didn’t want to buy them. Then also run coldsteel heart instead of fire diamond.
Drownyard temple can also be a unique form of ramp if you end up discarding it to something like faithless looting, fateful showdown, or thrill of possibility. I put it in my Solphim deck so I can discard it to give him indestructible and then ramp later. It could work here tho too, and it’s only 17 cents.
So i copied insult 4 times using Storm King's Thunder played lava coil killing a creature multiplied total 128 damage and then multiplied imodane damage to players of 4096😅 This just shows how over board you can go with the damage and deck build
All those cards that target a creature and deal excess/extra damage to its controller have a place now. They only target a single creature, they already hit its controller and now you are doubling up on it sonething like Flame Spill onto a 1/1 would be painful.
This is actually a bit of a non-bo with Imodane. Those spells say the excess damage is dealt to the controller instead. So Imodane will only see the exact amount of damage needed and replicate that onto all opponents, and only the one opoonent that controlled the creature would receive the excess damage from the spell. E.g. with Flame Spill targeting a 1/1, Flame Spill would only deal 1 damage to the creature, then 3 to the controller, then Imodane would deal just 1 damage to each opponent. It'd probably be be better to deal the full damage to the creature so that Imodane deals the full amount to all opponents.
@samolivecrona5848 I see, something like Chandra's Outrage would be ok...unless you add damage amps like Fiery Emancipation where you kind of loose out to split damage. Well gutter cards will remain gutter cards it seems.
The most disgusting things you can do with this deck are add damage doublers like Solphim and damage triplers like City on Fire and Fiery Emancipation. Combine them with one spell and you basically win the game, because Imodane counts as a separate source of damage, so rather than doubling or tripling, it increases the damage by X^2. With City on Fire, the spell would deal 3x damage, and then imodane would deal that much damage as a baseline, but she's a new source, so her damage also then gets multiplied by 3, so it's 9 times as much in total. If your opponents don't remove these immediately, you could wipe the whole board in one or two spells. Another completely disgusting but potentially suicidal thing you can do is run Repercussion and then cast Blasphemous Act, which deals 13 damage to each creature. Imodane won't get any triggers, but Repercussion will, and each player will take 13 damage for each creature they control. Just be sure you don't have too many creatures on the field yourself when you do this, or else you die too.
Keep in mind all affected players get to choose the order in which replacement effects are applied. For example if both torbran and solphim are out for you and you bolt an opponent’s creature for 3, solphim will double that to 6, torbran makes it 8. It will not work to bolt for 3, make it 5 from torbran and then solphim makes it 10. You may target your own creature for the 10 damage to be applied, but in that instance, the table will be receiving Imodane damage so that 10 would be doubled first to 20 and then torbran makes it 22, not torbran making it 12 so the table gets 24. Either way, it’s still a lot of damage that causes a lot of problems
The math is a little off, you at times were adding yourself in the damage calculations. EG, Unholy Heat dealing 24 damage. Unless you're talking about the creature and 3 opponents. Then my bad.
Turn 6 i won spending 2 mana. Lightning bolt for 27 then flame slash for 36. Had a fiery emancipation and imodane on the field from turn 4 and 5, they werent removed so
13:51 Mechanized warfare is extra cool in this deck because its a replacement effect that will affect both the original spell and immodane’s ability, so a lightning bolt will hit a creature for 4 then each opponent for 5.
Any replacement effect for damage will do this. So if you wanted to step outside of Mitch’s budget recommendations, getting a fiery emancipation out will turn that bolt into 27 to the table

Basilisk collar, all will be one, and fiery emancipation, and a few other damage doublers/triplets make this much scarier
I just put this in my Tor Wauki deck. It's really good.
Cool deck, could allways put in Brash Taunter aswell.
I do think that this deck could benefit from a Darksteel Plate or some other source of Indestructible so that you can pop that on Imodane and that lets you target her with your burn spells.
I'm still working on my bAlrog durin's bane deck/ mogis God of slaughter... interchangeable commander deck... going precon style 😎 with it. haven't decided on the 3rd option, but I feel like people lean into treasure tokens too hard and have no win con in the deck Soni am just going to build it with mass sacrifice effects to keep the board clear not solely focusing on treasure.... waiting for my sauron to arrive so I can do 9 nazgul, plus both krenkos... deck is practically locked into what it will have on theme which isn't fun to build, but will be fun to play even if less than efficient
sauron + 9 nazgul, 10 ramp, 10 draw, +39 land, +10 goblin/orc generators and the army leaders from the set, +10 removal, +11 mystery idk yet...
4 Toughness of course not 3
I just built this commander, so excited for the cards to arrive. Your channel has me so invested in budget deck building so i found this commander in a pack and decided to build around her 😅
Can you target your own creature with Chain Lightning, copy it with (R)(R) thus getting two triggers with Imodane?
Adding Fiery Emancipation to this right now.
The last game i played with my deck was doing 22 damage to the creature 44 damage to each opponent. Great way to win
The problem with copying spells over doubling damage is you're not guaranteed to have another viable target
So outside the $1 budget, but Grafted Exoskeleton on Imodane turns your burn spells into some heinous Infect win cons
@samolivecrona5848 did not realize this thanks for the info.
Thank you very much!!!!
I love edh burn decks. I just put an Imodane deck together last week and I can’t wait to play it. Can someone explain to me why we would need wayfarer’s babble in a mono deck? Wouldn’t an extra mountain be the same?
Turn 1 bauble
Turn 2 crack bauble
Turn 3 play immodane
An extra mountain wouldn’t be the same because wayfarers bauble allows you to get 2 lands down on a single turn cycle, putting you ahead instead of on track.
@@jmantehguy thank you. For some reason I thought bauble only put a lane in your hand. This makes sense now.
@@BlazeBerger You're thinking of Traveler's Amulet. I only dare speak its name 3 comments deep, as Mitch hates it with a passion.
@@spamspammed5524 yeah I guess I need to start using bauble more often.
Neat
Surprised Zada Hedron Grinder wasn't an auto include in this deck
I would think you would want to run skred instead of spitting earth.
Most playgroups would be cool with you rule 0ing your lands as snow lands if you didn’t want to buy them.
Then also run coldsteel heart instead of fire diamond.
Drownyard temple can also be a unique form of ramp if you end up discarding it to something like faithless looting, fateful showdown, or thrill of possibility.
I put it in my Solphim deck so I can discard it to give him indestructible and then ramp later.
It could work here tho too, and it’s only 17 cents.
Looks like I'm building another mono red deck
perfect for worldfire. >:)
was trying to figure out how you got $13, and I had $40. and then I saw I had 33 mountains at $.66 each... I'm down to $13ish before shipping
dont forget your damage multipliers and spell copiers.
Of course a really good red commander would have one of the cheapest decklists I have ever seen in EDH. I fucking love red.
I run a mana flare in my deck just to add an extra splash of chaos
decklist link is broken
I just pulled the Anime Blood Moon, guess where its going.....muwhaha
So i copied insult 4 times using Storm King's Thunder played lava coil killing a creature multiplied total 128 damage and then multiplied imodane damage to players of 4096😅
This just shows how over board you can go with the damage and deck build
Day 3 of politely requesting the continuation of the close quarters series
Does it count as commander damage?
yes
@@KyleBenzien No, commander damage is only from combat.
went against this shit in untap. didnt think it was that bad. one pyromancer goggles and furnace of rath later it was over lmao.
So getting banned, but I’m still building a non budget friendly version of this.
BROKEN
Hear me out now . Grafted exoskeleton
Torbran or sulphim out it goes bonkers
@@derekstoll1282 I appreciate the insight. How do you know that that's how it works tho? It makes sense but I want to verify.
I would add in Zadda and Blackblade Reforged. For the Grand Finale, target Zadda, which creates copies, and mega burn your opponents.
Had a fiery emancipation and imodane on the field from turn 4 and 5, they werent removed so
Give em infect 😈
Did 7600 damage to everyone turn 6 with imodane lol
760* also all basic lands and can kill everyone turn 3 with the right cards
how was there 0mention of damagedoubling enchantments, desecnet into avernus and sunbirds invocation?
Two cards... Zada and Sudden Shock.
