    I wondered why my indicators were not cancelling properly, so today took off the steering wheel and turned the blue part through 180 degrees so the pin faces to the left. Indicators now cancel as they should. Thanks Mike

    Should say, I replaced the rubber gaiters on the stalks easily by... erm... slicing along the back of them and then supergluing the join together.
    Held together perfectly for at least 5 years and nobody could *see* the join.
    Just make sure you give the gaiter a good wash first, to get all the dust off.

    G'Day Mike
    I only just did my column on the weekend. Replaced all but the wiper stalk and I also installed the "other Switch" (PRC3432) that wasn't installed at factory in the Td5's and on. They have the 1 touch fog switch down on the 3 switch panel at the right of the steering wheel (RHD) or the center console (Puma). I'm still going to use the default 1 touch switch for the rear fog and use PRC3432 for my front Fog (switching between running and fog). Now I could have used STC61821 since it has a more of a Running light looking icon on the stalk, but I refuse to pay 10X the value of PRC3432 and both switch's do the same thing (SPST) and all I need it to do is energise a change over relay.

    Great video, thank you! Mike my flashers suddenly stopped working. I suspected the relay so replaced it and they worked for a few days but then died again. I found some info on testing the relay and it seems the new relay is still good. (The emergency flashers work fine). Now I’m looking into the switch. I’m looking to troubleshoot the switch itself but having trouble finding a wiring diagram for it or instructions on how to test it. With my minimal electrical experience it seems that I should have continuity between the earth and the various pins on the plug as the right, left, horn and high beams are engaged but I’m only detecting continuity between earth and the first pin when the horn is pushed. A video on how to test and troubleshoot the switch would be great if you are looking for a new video idea. Until then I will soldier on. Thanks again for the great videos I enjoy watching them just for the interest even if I’m not working on that particular item.

    Now you have replaced the indicator stalk and refitted the rubber, your customer will very soon get the problem of the indicator cancelling itself as you turn the corner, but only on a right turn.
    It took me ages to work out what the problem was on mine. I replaced the switch and the problem very soon returned. Then, I removed the cowling for another problem and all the time the cowling was off the right turn indicator behaved as it should. As soon as I replaced the cowling, the fault returned. But then I found if I just ‘unplugged’ the rubber gaiter from the cowling it cured the fault. So my indicator rubber gaiter is no longer fitted to the cowling, just lying loosely against it.
    My guess is your customer also worked this out and applied the ultimate fix and cut the rubber off 😂

    Haha! Brilliant!
    I had a D90 for 5 years and the indicators NEVER worked properly. I made two or three attempts to sort it out, always being very careful to ensure everything went back as it was.
    Never once occured to me to try turning that plastic bush through 180° cos I was always worried I'd mess something else up.
    A previous owner must have replaced the wheel (it had an aftermarket wheel when I got it), positioned the bush wrongly and I always left it where it was. :-(

      @@BritannicaRestorations I'm always paranoid about messing with indicators after a bad experience with a Mini, which resulted in lots of little springs, ball-bearings and tiny slivers of copper all over the floor and the indicators never self-cancelling again - hence my reluctance to want to mess with the indicators on my Landy for fear of breaking it.

    Thanks Mike. I’ve changed my stalk and now the horn works again but on a right turn the indicator cancels out immediately as I turn right. The left is behaving as it should. Everything appears installed as you’ve instructed so I’m wondering if there is something that I might need to do to solve the right turn dilemma.

Let me ask you a question: when you tested the high beam, the indicator light on the dash blinked green, but i think it should blink blue, shouldn't it? Thanks!

    • @BritannicaRestorations
      @BritannicaRestorations  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only way of finding out is by finding the history of the vehicle - may be through your local licencing but usually every vehicle inspection logs the odometer reading
      Importation records too log the odometer - usually
      Not easy to find out, but doable

    I would have tried to depin the green wire from the black connector block first, there are tools for that. undo the tape and then you could reassemble once the rubber cover was on and no-one would be the wiser, no resoldering cut wires.

    Hi mike, great video as usual! Now I’m not sure if this is the place to ask you a question because I’ve never done it before but I’m struggling and watching you has helped me plenty before so here goes...basically my 300 d1 only just passed its mot (England) on rear brake effort, no leaks and fairly new callipers discs and pads but the pedal works lower than it used to and there is a definate lack of braking. I’m sort of thinking either master cylinder or pressure deducing valve thingy but I don’t know how to repair them if possible, thought this might be up your street? Many thanks

    • @BritannicaRestorations
      @BritannicaRestorations  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    slightly different thing, what are your thoughts on the britpart indicator stalks? I fitted one recently and I had problems with the self canceling mechanism, ( I did set it up correctly, and got the blue plastic ring in the right position), but the dam thing cancels when you turn the steering wheel in the direction your turning, after slacking off the clamp bolt and wiggling it a bit, it kind of works, but you can see the indicator stalk twitch as you turn the steering wheel, I have fitted lucas one's in the past that was much better but I forgot this time round to get a lucas unit, is there any hope of getting the britpart ones to work right? Any tips would be great
    Thanks

      Hello, Roy, I have disassembled mine a while ago. There are some springs, and pins that make the electric contact for the indicator lights (left and right). There are a plastic ring that locks the lever in position up or down and this piece interacts with the blue collar mr Mike pointed. Maybe, one or more pieces could be loose or fastened too tight.... if you are going to disassemble, i suggest you record or take pictures. If posible, use a pair of tweezers to remove each part. Do not put the piece upside down and shake it: the little springs, steel ball, pins will fall and you wont be able to identify the right position of each part. I went thru this mistake. After a couple of hours i could assemble it the right way. But it took me lots of attempts and some time. Good luck.
