    Great Video!
    Thx for pointing out what low season in the med is like!
    we were hiding on the french coast during the medicane...
    I think we would both qualify as experts now😋
    Congratulations on your new boat! Great choice
    Fair winds and following seas

    Love your videos guys. Your night navigation and your confidence must be amazing to pick up in the middle of the night sand find another safe anchorage! Lots of admiration.

      Thanks so much! Nah. We just do whatever is necessary to keep ourselves and the boat safe - 30kn on a lee shore is scarier than a quick night sail 😊

    Scary weather! I would have sat and cried if we'd seen that on the forecast! Worth the scare for the crystal clear waters and sunshine though xx

    Great video, commentary and background music. The weather in the Med is normally quite good. You are sailing late in the season and as such the weather becomes a lot more variable. The infrastructure in the Med is excellent.

      Been cruising the Med two full years on a boat and the weather is only really good in some of May, June, July and some of August. Please refer back to our many episodes of 50kn+ wind 😁😁😁

    So glad you escaped the worst wind.
    Memory lane for my wife and I as we had our honeymoon in Ibiza and visited Fermentor spending half a day there. I was also recovering from hepatitis so looked liked one of the poor souls from a concentration camp!
    Stay safe but adventurous.

    Recently found your channel and enjoying your vids. As a fellow manual windlass owner for the past 20 years you may want to get a longer handle so you can stand upright when hauling, easier on the back. But maybe you already know this, anyway stay safe, wish I was in an anchorage but that will need to wait.

    Hello, I've had my first taster sailing lesson today on a 36ft boat which I enjoyed very much. It had a wheeled helm and we sailed in quite choppy seas. It was difficult to keep on course.
    What I would like to know is how does Skua handle in heavy seas since you removed the wheel on her.
    I love your video's.

    A few centuries ago, a fellow countryman of yours (whose name happened to be Nelson) stated that there were four safe ports in the Mediterranean: June, July, August and Mahon (Menorca).
    But he didn't know that even Mahon can be an awful trap in southerly.

    Im 90 nm north of Cape Naturaliste! 2000km of lee shore! All my local charts say Waters less than 6 metres may experience breaking waves. Cape Naturaliste in bad weather gets 13 metre swell and the Gap Western Australia gets waves breaking 140ft above sea level.

    18:00 when you heave to you have to ease the mainsheet much more. This will remove the forward motion (that you still had).
    But ofc I don't know your boat and every boat is different.

    I had that same problem with my roller. I had big stainless steel flanges made that I bolted to the side. Now if the chain slips out of the roller it is caught by the flange to then fall back into the roller when we line up again.

    Hey there. How’s the tiller working out. I still want to add it to my boat (our similar boats). Love your videos. BTW I use a 85lb Mantus and It holds like being stuck on a rock. You’ll never drag. I do wish you had an electric windlass. Life would be better.

    • @SailingKittiwake
      @SailingKittiwake  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Our manual windlass is 46 years old, it has never not worked, requires 20 minutes of maintenance a year and will keep working until then end of the boat's life. Why on earth would an electric windlass be better? A tiny bit of convenience? If you want convenience then sailing isn't for you!

    Hey Guys, the anchor riding sail works properly when tied out to one side of the boat. The Sailrite web site has a good how to use video

    • @SailingKittiwake

      Works fine this way too 😊 that’s the video we watched before making one.

    • @SailingKittiwake
      @SailingKittiwake  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We’ve seen too many boats with a broken one and the owners having to manually haul the anchor 😊 This manual windlass is 46 years old and will most probably outlive us.

    You still operating with a faulty steering system does that make your boat unseaworthy. Or should I say nullified your seaworthy certificate which could result in your licence to operate your boat on the highseas?

    • @SailingKittiwake
      @SailingKittiwake  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      What are you talking about? We swapped the faulty wheel for a tiller many episodes ago.

    bonjour vous deux. 30 nœuds de vent en méditerranée c'est normal surtout a cette période. la solution est de partir au large. surtout éviter de rester prés des cotes. bon vent.
