    I own this in 156 and the Flagship in 158, and they complement one another very nicely. The Flagship is obviously much stiffer for harder charging and drops, but the Stratos is so comfortable to ride in basically any condition. It's not quite a quiver-killer because it's not twin-ish for park, but it'll do literally everything else.

      If you could only have one of the two, which would you choose ?

      @@finn_chxxde3202 Stratos. It's more versatile for tree runs and it never, ever feels like it's plotting to kill you. If I were a much heavier rider or a hard-charging madlad it would be the Flagship though, it is an absolute battering ram and maintains its speed much better over rough snow.
      Truth be told I just picked up the Project X though so.... we'll see how this answer changes ;)

      @@ToddSnow I haven't personally no, but I do know how it rides from chats with people who have. It's basically a softer Ultra Mind Expander, which is what the build needed as the Ultra was so stiff hardly anyone non-pro could 'surf' with it. The 2023 is basically a less technical Flagship, more at home on pow but less for charging and hard drops. If I had regular access to pow I'd be considering it.

    Just got one of these and it is a sick board. Really great turning and carving, great in powder, and even does well in tight trees. Angry is correct that it does require a bit more calculated effort in tight trees, but it wasn't bad by any means. One place I'd give it a slight demerit is firm, rutted snow. At high speeds when hitting a rut in firm snow, you can really feel it moreso than you would on a stiffer freeride board like the Flagship. It's not super uncomfortable or difficult to ride if you know what you're doing, but in firm, icy conditions I think I'd reach for something else if it were available.

    Love your reviews! Moving on from new Golden Orca. Not a good enough rider to handle it without concussions along the way. Biggest issue is moving from toe to heel without catching edges in the flat slow areas. It's fine on larger drops, but you have to eventually come to another lift! Someone in a local shop recommended this board as a possible replacement. All of my other boards are mostly rocker profile, but want something that will be a bit more stable at speed when on edge. I would call myself average intermediate rider with age! Thoughts?

    Wondering if the 159 will work for me? I’m 145 lbs and wear a size 11 Burton Ion. Would rather get the 156 for my weight but my size 11 boot seems like I would need the larger 159. What do you think? Thanks!

    • @AngrySnowboarder
      @AngrySnowboarder  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Ion has shrink tech so it's actually the shell of a size 10, you can get away with the 56. The 59 would be overkill.

    Looking to add a second Jones board to my quiver and this is pretty high on my boards of interest at the moment. I have a 158 mind expander for the powder days and want something else for day in and day out east coast resort riding (Vermont). I tend to hang on to equipment for a long time so I tend to overthink these purchases. I just retired a 2002 156 burton fish to pick up the mind expander and now I’m retiring a 2005 160 burton triumph. I occasionally head out west, usually snowbird, but almost all of my riding is done east. I have a surf background and there is zero freestyle happening for me anymore these days. Like to carve and “surf” the mountain, love the trees when the conditions allow it. Debating the stratos, flagship, and storm wolf. Big fan of your videos and any input would be greatly appreciated, as won’t have the opportunity to get on any of these before I purchase. Want it to compliment the mind expander without too much overlap. Thanks !

      @@AngrySnowboarder I want to thank you for your honest reviews and suggestions. I pulled the trigger on a 153 and just got off of it. Like you said in the video, it's a board that you feel like you've been on a hundred times before. It doesn't beat me up in chunder like the Dancehaul does. It fits my riding style a bit better too. Coming back from a 6 year hiatus, this is the board I should have got in the first place.

    6'1 200 lbs size 13 boots, you think 161w or 164w? I am coming from a lib tech t rice pro 161.5. I like the idea of a little more forgiveness and play in the 161 but the comment section on the jones site seems to put everyone with 11+ boots on the 164. Its only 1mm wider at the waist so not sure why they are saying that. I want something more aggressive to replace the the t rice, and I ride at Brighton and snowbird mostly. Lots of freeride and hiking for powder but still enjoy cruising and side hits/freestyle for half the day. I ride almost no switch, so I think I would benefit from a directional board more so than the twin I'm currently on. Other thoughts for a new one board quiver include the Ejack knife 159w or 162w, capita mercury 160w, BSOD 161w. Would love some thoughts or other suggestions, I only get like 6-8 days per year and have to travel for it so powder is not a guarantee.

  • @BrianNguyenDP
    @BrianNguyenDP 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’m having a hard time deciding between the Stratos, Mind Expander, or Ultra Mind Expander. Would probably get a Hovercraft but I plan on getting that as a splitboard. Looking for something that’ll complement my Mountain Twin in the resorts on better snow days to ride through pow, trees, jumping off side hits/natural features, and harder carving. Love wide open bowls but not much of a straight lining charger, prefer charging with style and fun. Where does the Stratos fit between those? Any tips? Thanks!!

    Stratos
    Board would be used for trees/Carving/Bombing basically all mountain/free ride: no park
    You say the stratos is stable, do you think it’s pretty stable around 50-60mph? Same with the ultra flagship. Always in the woods when there’s snow usually every few runs, depending on what resort I’m at of course.
