I think anyone who has a TH-cam channel is brave.
It definitely takes some bravery to put yourself “out there” on the internet and be vulnerable to mean comments. But in a way, it’s easier than talking to people in “real life”. I only know 1 yarny person in person!!!

I really enjoy listening to your take on yarny things and I love a chatty video. I watch a lot of TH-cam while I'm crafting. I even watch several knitting "podcast" channels although I don't knit just to have something peaceful and yarny on on the background 😁. It doesn't seem like many crochet channels lend themselves to that "podcast" style. Anyway, keep up the good work!

Ohh no not the crochet shorts or even the jumpers/ overalls…🫣😂 My momma always told me, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all..” and another one, “ Pick your battles.” Some people just aren’t worth your time, especially a troll on the webs! Glad it was helpful! You should definitely keep working towards starting your channel if you feel called to do it! If you’re wanting to feel more comfortable with the tech side of it, check out Nick Nimmim. I honestly think he has the most useful info out there!
Everyone around me keeps nagging me to do it but I just don't feel ready. Gimme a mic in front of thousands of people and I can blow them away yet this TH-cam thing feels very daunting and intimidating. So I will check out your recommendations and hopefully I can get to do something. Thanks for all the help
Here’s the other thing……you can always film and edit a video or two and never post them. Just get comfortable with it! Here’s what really pushed me to start. Gary Vaynerchuk (Gary Vee) said that everybody makes terrible content when they first start, that’s just how it is, but the good thing is you don’t have any followers in the beginning, so no one sees how bad those first ones are! For some reason that was comforting to me!

We have a phrase in the South for trolls - maybe you've heard it - "Bless their hearts". Another one - "Y'all need Jesus." I was blessing the hearts of those commenters you mentioned and patting you on the back for not feeding into it. Love your heart as always, dear friend!

I stumbled upon your channel and I am really enjoying it. Thank you so much. I like that you are midwestern. I am as well. I really enjoy your topics as well. I think it's great that you've started a channel. I'm a slow starter to having a channel. We'll see how it goes. I appreciate that you addressed 'trolls'. That causes me the most hesitation to post more videos that are yarn adjacent vs tutorials or sort of show & tell videos. I'm afraid that my appearance, voice, accent, opinions, etc will be a target, but I really want to go forward. As a Mom, Grandma, that does a lot of different arts & crafts, I really want to put some of what I do into videos so that my kids & grandkids can learn from me, in their own time, or even just feel like they are visiting with me a bit, if they like. Maybe that's a silly reason to have a channel, but it's the reason behind mine, even though, I really haven't gotten very far with it yet. Maybe soon.
One of the things that helps me choose my next project is the list that I made of "what do I want to learn/explore more?" That really narrows it down for me. I love to process knit & crochet, so I'm pretty happy making anything, so I really have to wrangle myself in, if I want my goals to be achieved. One of those being to learn more about specific things.
I will probably never crochet or knit shorts, LOL. I can only imagine that they would either ride up or sag down. Neither of those things appeal to me...Bahahahahaha!

I think the purpose of building a channel to serve as a family legacy is a wonderful idea! I’ve heard Sean at Think Media talk about that. Your channel is off to a great start and I would encourage you to get back into it!
I know you didn’t ask, but here’s what I’d suggest: continue what you’ve started for your content pillars. Crochet tutorials (you’ve proven you are great at that with that many views!) maybe more equipment tutorials/reviews/set up, but also add the “why” you do what you do. So that you make that connection. Share why you love something and how the viewer can benefit from it as well. Be brave and turn the camera around at you! Your family with love to have those videos!

This was a very good video. The troll story was strange, but quite interesting. When I see troll-like commentary, I just think to myself that the commenter has not yet recovered from the lockdowns and may just need to go outside and see real people and talk to them.

Here's my (unsolicited) advice... Record a couple videos without intending on uploading them. Practice talking to the camera, getting yourself in frame, etc. Then delete them. The second (or third, or fourth) you'll feel a lot more confident!
