Thanks for the test. I prefer the BPM 1/8, it’s the perfect amount of softness and blooming highlights. 1/4 was too strong of a blooming effect for me.
We have several of the black satins and one of the reasons we got them is to make images look less digital and more aggressive, and sure - for skin - but without adding "haze" to the whole image. If you want a grittier mood from a scene with faces, black satin could be a good enhancement. Beyond highlights, no dreamy or creamy from satins. Also, in my opinion, black satin is very subtle at the lower numbers so starting low won't give you the same oomph that you see immediately with pro mist, with satins I START with 1 "just to see" and go from there.
I am confused about the Numbers.. On the Tiffen store I can buy Black Satin 1, 2, 1/8, 1/4 and 1/2. Is the BlackSatin 1/8 the lowest and the "2" the highest with the largest effect? Or ist the Filter with number "2" the Filter with the smallest effect? What is the order of strength, starting with the lightest effect to the strongest effect? Hope that someone can help me. I can't see much difference in the comparison videos
@@basicmotionhochzeitsfilm6899 2 is strongest effect, 1/8 lowest The higher the fraction, the lower the effect My answer probably comes too late but here you go anyways haha
Question for you then - is there something that does a good job marrying the too concepts? I like the idea of reducing that digitally sharpness without losing contrast, but I also like the idea of just a TINY bit of added halation and glow for a very subtle film look. Like a black pro mist 1/8 halation + a black satin 1/2 optical reduction. You know of any filter like that? This is like a digital photographer dream I feel like. Or maybe just a black pro mist 1/8 is all I really need.
Hm, I have the BPM 1/8 and 1/4, those make a difference. I'd maybe get the 1/2 as well. But I don't really see much effect with the black satin ones. I'm glad I went with BPM.
Pro mist gives more highlight bloom but can be overwhelming and cause your subject to be too hazy. Black Satin still provides the creamy cinematic look but adds more constrast to avoid the hazy look on subjects especially on faces. But can add too much constrast in certain lighting scenarios. Depends on the look you want.
no babbling, no rambling, no life story for the first 4 minutes of video, straight to the point with awesome real world comparison. i like the pro mist 1. its super dreamy
Absolutely. They were created specifically for todays high definition CMOS sensors. The Pro-Mist filters are older filters originally made for a different kind of camera. They were used a lot on Betacam for daytime soaps and on film cameras. Tiffen's Glimmerglass is another line of newer filters that work great with todays cameras.

once again, really impressed with the footage your P4k produces. Hands down absolutely beatiful. You used the sigma 50-100 Art for many shots right? Would you recommend it, the F1.8 looks beatiful. Can you recommend the a good way to shoot shallow on a bright day with pro mist? Cheers
Driven Films I’ve actually been using it on both the BMPCC6K and on the Nikon Z6 with ATOMOS 10 bit. It’s definitely worth the investment for the 4x5.65 filter. Love it!
Thank you so much for these two videos, this is the only informative video in the whole world. Another question for you is: immediately in the first frames behind a beautiful girl in this segment "04:28 Black Satin Examples" , circles bokeh covered with squares, it's visible texture or filter this effect from the camera's sensor or lens? just if this is a filter effect, it is unacceptable to me, I would like to clarify this with you before buying.
