I grew up in Seattle Washington white center, 1/4 the population used to be Cambodian we had a bunch of Cambodian stores restaurants and we have a huge American and Cambodian flag in the middle of the town we have festival every year when Cambodian migrated they moved to white center WA, longbeach and Massachusetts I love how I grew up around most of my ethnicities in the us I got to experience Cambodia sorta in tbe US haha

Delicious Khmer meal
The fish egg omelette is delicious. When I go fishing and catch carp. I like to save the fish eggs and mix it with chicken eggs, to make fish egg omelette. I ground up the fish meat to make lemongrass fish patties or prahet threy.

Up here in Minnesota we have one of the biggest cambodian pagodas in the US. Called Wat Munisotaram just south of Minneapolis.

There’s always big cambodia community in the USA. Seen it in TH-cam. A lot bigger than where I am . I love to travel to USA one day .
Long Beach cambodia town is an embarrassment and a joke. Khmer businesses are NOT thriving there. Community service centers such as United Cambodian Community(UCC) and Cambodian Association of America(CAA) once operated and served the community in big 2 story buildings. Now their operations and services have been relegated to tiny 2 story buildings cramped in between other businesses that share the buildings with them. We don't even have an actual khmer supermarket here unless you consider the dirty, rude and ghetto folks from riverside market as a "supermarket". Most grocery stores are owned and run by vietnamese. Many khmer restaurants had been closed down. Only thing in long beach cambodia town are useless khmer/chinese jewelry shops and auto body shops. Don't get me started on the khmer temples/wats in long beach. The most ghetto single story bungalows spread all across long beach. They do NOT resemble any khmer wats back in cambodia. All the monks from all the different temples bicker and fight each other and corruption is rampant.
If you decide to visit a cambodia town in the US, go to Lowell, Massachusetts. It's much more authentic and khmer businesses are doing a lot better there. And if you want to visit any khmer temples/wats, go wat munisotaram in Hampton, Minnesota. It's the biggest khmer temple in the US and actually looks like a khmer temple and not an ordinary house like the "khmer temples" in long beach.🤦♂️ The khmers in Minnesota do a good job of maintaining the temple.
Don't let the racist khmers influence you in any way brother. You're a good, kind, and generous human being. And also, a great husband and father to your wife and daughter. Anyway, I hope you get to travel more and share more of your experiences with us brother.👍

Only nationalists who follows cambodian and chinese half-breed Sam Rainsy or his party members blindly are hated the vietnamese. These nationalists are usually are not highly educated who can be influenced easily by anyone. Sam Rainsy is a manipulator and like to fuel nationalism to get what he wants in politics because he wants to be a prime minister and money. He's a troublemaker who made the country fall into a turmoil several years ago. He makes up lies about vietnam annexing mekong delta in the 1940s when vietnam actually had controlled of this region in early 1700s when it was a swamp and deserted by central government of the khmer empire. Even the head of a Khmer Krom advocacy association said he's a bad politician.
Other cambodians are nice, especially the ones in US who have higher education. A lot of vietnamese in the mekong delta look like cambodians that have lighter skin.

I only eat meat so street food is decent in Cambodia. The meat carts are decent and braised pork I get a lot. Bbq fish as well. Most Khmer dishes have alot of garlic and I hate garlic it makes me piss out my butt all day. It's a powerful antibiotic that destroys your body and gut.

Welcome back to the States! When you have kid, it is a good idea to raise them with a good environment and surrounding with technology. Let the kid explore it. Some Khmer people take the kids back home to raise them. It is not a good idea.

I am living in Siem Reap after living a total of 16 years in Thailand. Sorry, but I just can't get into Khmer food. I can do the Tom Yum and the Khai Jiao with pork (omelette) both are really Thai dishes. The rest is pretty boring for my taste buds. Any suggestions for me and my Thai palate? Thanks.

Everyone is entitled to their personal opinion. As for me, I can’t take Thai food. It’s way too sweet and salty or both at the same time. A lot of the dishes are heavily Chinese influenced with that SE ASIA flare so I can see why that would suit some foreigners’ palate more especially since you mentioned you’ve lived there for 16 years. Your palate has grown accustomed to “Thai” food. Personally, I don’t like it and it’s not for me… and I actually grew up on it and around it as well as there are more Thai restaurants here than there are Cambodian restaurants. What have you been eating over there in Siem Riep? Just curious.
